"Idiot, if you think I'm the kind of guy who can be fooled by a few words from you, you're too naive," Wu Yu said sarcastically. However, he still turned around and said impatiently, "I'm in a hurry. You only have one chance to convince me."
"Thank you," Sharp nodded.
“Those favored by the gods are rare, but there are always a few in every era. However, there has never been a god descending to earth since ancient times. It is not that they cannot, but that they do not want to.”
“The Holy Maiden was taught from a young age to fulfill the requests of others, including the gods. If the gods could directly strip her of her will, then why would we waste our time? So I suspect that the gods cannot act on earth by their own will. The one who is currently outside is very likely still the Holy Maiden.”
That makes some sense. If Virginia was just a vessel, the church wouldn't have needed to subject her to such a distorted education. But ultimately, it's just speculation.
"Do you have any evidence?" Wu Yu was already somewhat tempted.
"No, it's all just my guess. The Inquisition only carries out missions and doesn't participate in decision-making," Sharp replied straightforwardly.
"It's hard for me to make up my mind to help you when you're like this," Wu Yu sighed, and asked helplessly, "Then why did you betray your god?"
“We don’t need a real god, we just need a living saintess.” Sharp’s statement was particularly dangerous; normally, it would have gotten him burned at the stake, but now someone was coming to cause him trouble.
"Why didn't you come earlier? If you wanted to defect, you should have contacted me sooner," Wu Yu complained, already prepared to get involved.
"No one can stop the Church's decision. I didn't think you could change anything until just now, when I saw you looking directly at God outside. Only then did I believe you have the ability to defy God's will. You said you would stop the Holy Maiden."
Sharp recalled the past with a sigh, who would have thought that a guy who seemed to only know how to talk big would be the only person he could count on.
"The premise is that she's not dead." Wu Yu corrected, "I'm willing to save him, but if you want me to avenge her, then you've come to the wrong person. Do me a small favor first; I need to confirm whether she's alive or dead."
“I’m sorry, I probably can’t be of much help.” Sharp said with a troubled expression, “The power of clergy comes from the gods. When the God of Light descended, He not only absorbed the vast amount of faith power, but also took back our power.”
"Your information is sufficient." Wu Yu was pleased rather than angry. With this intelligence, he alone was enough to deal with the Church of Light.
Wu Yu acted immediately, rushing straight to the backyard.
"What are you doing?" "You bastard!" "Insolence!"
Amidst the chaos, Wu Yu quickly returned carrying a man, then casually tossed him into a corner.
"Your Holiness the Pope!" A group of cardinals groped their way over from behind, the only one who wasn't blind staring at the two bruised eyes, clearly having just been beaten up.
"Wu Yu, what are you doing? Offending the Pope is a grave disrespect!" Eugene exclaimed in shock upon seeing Wu Yu's reckless behavior.
“It’s none of your business, mind your own business,” Wu Yu said with a stern face.
He didn't intend to reveal to this group just how heinous the church had been. If Virginia could be rescued, Wu Yu didn't want her to take the blame.
And look at the Pope now, with two bloody holes in his face, looking haggard, his robes dirty and tattered by Wu Yu. He's nothing like his former glamorous self. He's just an unwanted old man, weak, pitiful, and helpless. If you said he was the mastermind behind this incident, people would believe it.
"Guards, seize this guy who's causing trouble in the church!" The church leaders began calling for reinforcements.
Upon receiving the order, the priests and pastors in the lecture hall surrounded Wu Yu. They tried to use their magic, but couldn't even make a sound. In the end, they had no choice but to grab the thugs with their bare hands.
As a top-tier expert of the first level of the extraordinary realm, Wu Yu could be easily suppressed by the mere Church of Light.
"Ora, ora, ora!" Unexpectedly, his left hand, which had just been repaired, came in handy. Wu Yu swung his fists wildly and delivered a rapid series of blows, knocking the person who rushed over to the ground.
Wu Yu had not learned any boxing techniques, but the vital points of the human body are the same. Wu Yu showed no mercy and each punch rendered one person unable to fight.
After taking everyone down, Wu Yu shook his clothes, feeling that the warm-up exercise before the big battle was just right.
Wu Yu approached the Pope with a cold smile and said rudely, "Old man, if you don't want to suffer any physical pain, then tell me how to use the other divinely bestowed weapon."
Wu Yu was referring to the other angel holding a book in front of the statue. Since the first one was a weapon bestowed by God, the second angel couldn't just be a decoration, could it?
He originally wanted Sharp to help him get the instructions on how to use the divinely bestowed weapon, but since the Church of Light had lost its fighting power, there was no need for such trouble; he could just take it by force.
“God’s servants do not accept threats,” the Pope said firmly.
As expected, if he were afraid of death, he wouldn't deserve the title of fanatic. Fortunately, Wu Yu is quite talented in reasoning. "Old man, I'm not lying to you. I'm going to use your divinely bestowed weapon to challenge the God of Light. Who do you think will win?"
"How can the light of a mere firefly compare to the brilliance of the moon?" the Pope said disdainfully.
"Then that's settled. I'm going to my death anyway, so why don't you just grant my wish? Not only will you save your own life, but you can also save everyone in the church. Wouldn't that be a great deed? Or do you think the God of Light will lose to me?"
