Chapter Eighteen: A Cold Heart

The state of a soldier in the same rank within the same squadron has an impact. If the difference between the two is too great, even if one's spirit and energy are extremely weak, one can still easily suppress the opponent.

This is why the male elf was able to so easily repel the goblins that rushed into the cave.

However, when a troll of equal skill level makes a move, his condition will become his biggest weakness.

After the male elf slaughtered more than a dozen goblins who were used as cannon fodder, the troll finally made its move.

The five-meter-tall troll pulled out the giant stone pillar from its back and slammed it down on the male elf.

The male elf appeared to be in poor spirits, but his movements were still quite agile. He easily dodged the heavy blow, then lunged forward, crawling between the troll's legs while simultaneously delivering a vicious sword strike to the troll's thigh tendon.

Green blood splattered everywhere, but the wound healed automatically in just two breaths. This was the troll's innate ability—a terrifying self-healing power. According to the book, unless you blow its head off, a troll is unkillable.

Of course, Wu Yu believed in science. Even in this other world, the basic law of conservation of energy still had to be respected. If he kept injuring the troll, it would definitely die from overwork. In other words, the troll's self-healing ability had an upper limit. It was just a pity that the male elf in front of him was probably far from that limit.

The troll was able to be injured by its sudden burst of power, but looking at the male elf's chaotic breathing rhythm, Wu Yu knew that the outcome of the battle was already decided.

He lacks both endurance and speed; his only advantage lies in his agility. If he were to employ a kiting-style fighting approach, this male elf might have a fighting chance. However, the reality is that he has far too many fatal weaknesses.

Once the male elf is restrained, goblins rush into the cave. At this point, the male elf will risk exposing his back to the trolls by turning back and quickly clearing out the goblins that have entered the cave.

Is there really someone he wants to protect inside? But if the weak try to take care of both, the inevitable result will be losing everything.

Even though the male elf repeatedly dodged the troll's attacks with his agile movements, Wu Yu was still certain of the male elf's defeat.

The male elf's numerous strokes of luck could only guarantee him temporary invincibility, but one mistake from him would mean his utter ruin.

The battle ended when the troll, with his blockheadedness, finally realized where his advantage lay.

The troll abandoned the male elf, who was as annoying as a fly, and headed towards the cave himself.

This made the male elf's eyes widen in anger, and he brandished his sword fiercely. However, the troll refused to stop, even at the cost of suffering more injuries.

Then the male elf went berserk and launched a suicidal attack on the troll with his sword.

The male elf leaped up and pierced the troll's heart from behind with his sword.

"Roar!" The troll roared in pain, and taking advantage of the male elf's exhaustion, it turned around and slammed its head against a pillar.

The male elf's body was so weak that he was sent flying like a cannonball, unable to get up again.

"Damn it!" the troll cursed, pulling the sword from behind his back and shattering it with his teeth. Then, the troll viciously charged toward the spot where the male elf had fallen.

The troll's back wounds healed quickly, and its broken heart began to beat again.

"The heart is the core of a human being, but to a troll it's just an ordinary organ," Wu Yu sighed softly, preparing to make his move.

To be honest, Wu Yu was quite disappointed. If the male elf had been a little more capable, things would have been much easier for him.

Wu Yu had witnessed the power of the trolls before, and he was confident that he could easily defeat them in a one-on-one fight. However, the male elf was simply too useless, failing to even kill many of the goblin minions. If Wu Yu wanted to win, he would have to use special methods.

Wu Yu wasn't particularly interested in these elves, but when he thought he had found an opportunity to capture a troll, his calm heart began to stir. The thought of what he would have to do made the tedious wait even more painful.

Since he was already impatient, he might as well do some good deeds while he was at it; this was Wu Yu's truest thought.

Wu Yu took out the [Hope] potion that he had originally prepared as a backup, opened the bottle, and drank it all in one gulp.

What followed was the expected promotion.

In the past few days, Wu Yu also tried cultivating, and then he found that his strength, which should have been locked, had increased slightly again. This should also be Violet's doing.

Wu Yu was too lazy to speculate on things that would never yield an answer, and gladly accepted Violet's gift to him.

You want me to become stronger? Then so be it.

However, his poor aptitude didn't improve much. Although he could feel the bottleneck approaching, Wu Yu estimated that he wouldn't be able to advance to the fifth rank for at least ten or eight years.

Now that he needed to improve his strength, Wu Yu didn't feel too guilty and chose to take drugs.

Feeling the surge of power within him, Wu Yu used the signature move of a high-level superhuman, releasing his battle aura. With a light flick of his finger, he pierced through the head of a goblin, much to Wu Yu's satisfaction.

That's more like it; how can you call yourself a time traveler if you don't use cheat codes?

As for whether there will be another opportunity to advance to the sixth level in the future, Wu Yu said that one should be down-to-earth and not be overly ambitious.

The troll spotted Wu Yu, and temporarily abandoned his attempt to finish off the male elf, leading the goblins to attack Wu Yu.

Having retrieved the original Darkness, Wu Yu chose to end this tedious battle in the quickest possible way.
