If Wu Yu did something to offend Layton and now feels guilty towards him, then it wouldn't be a bad idea to offer his face and let him punch him.
But Wu Yu believed he hadn't done anything wrong, so he wouldn't just stand there and take the beating.
Judging from the strength Layton displayed, Wu Yu could tell that he was holding back, so he didn't intend to embarrass Layton.
Almost instinctively, Wu Yu raised his hand and easily caught Layton's fist.
Layton was stunned. He hadn't expected to fail. He became even angrier, activated his fighting spirit, and then revealed his true strength.
But no matter how strong he was, Wu Yu remained unmoved. Layton's fist didn't advance an inch.
Wu Yu sensed the power emanating from his hand and found it to be significantly weaker than that of a fifth-tier transcendent being. It seemed that Layton had not made any leaps in his development over the past ten years.
The pure contest of strength made Layton realize that Wu Yu's power was superior to his, but he still refused to give up and swung his other fist at Wu Yu.
Tsk, Wu Yu was getting a little impatient.
Wu Yu now had a million ways to get Layton to the ground. The strong never need to explain to the weak, but he ultimately chose the most troublesome one.
Wu Yu released the hand that had been blocking Layton and retreated while dodging.
We can't push Layton too hard, or he might take what we say to heart.
"Dude, don't be angry, Violet isn't dead yet," Wu Yu said helplessly.
"A notice personally issued by the Empire cannot be false, you bastard, you actually tried to deceive me." Layton was furious, and the strength of his body gradually increased, showing signs of going berserk.
Wu Yu then remembered that Layton's profession seemed to be Berserker, and if he continued to go berserk, he might become indiscriminate and ruthless.
With no other option, Wu Yu had to resort to force. He deflected Layton's attack with both hands, then took a step forward and, as the two crossed paths, delivered a powerful elbow strike to Layton's chest.
The explosive force sent Layton flying, rendering him unable to get up again.
"Ella, get him treated quickly. My attack won't kill him, but without treatment, he'll be bedridden for days." Looking at the panicked Ella beside him, Wu Yu gave the order without authorization.
Wu Yu then coldly stared at Layton and said calmly, "Now you understand, right? Since I have the power to kill you instantly, I have no reason to deceive you. Violet really is not dead."
Layton, lying on the ground, looked at Wu Yu with a complicated expression. Ten years had passed, and he could hardly remember what Wu Yu looked like anymore. But he remembered that the boy who had followed him to learn fighting spirit would never have shown such an indifferent look, as if he was tired of the whole world.
"You think you can convince me with just a few words? At least produce some decent evidence, you brat." Layton was somewhat convinced by Wu Yu's simple and straightforward reasoning, but he wanted to see some concrete evidence.
"No, Violet and I parted ways so suddenly that I wasn't mentally prepared, let alone thinking about leaving any evidence." Wu Yu shrugged, looking helpless.
"That···"
"Well, I know you want to ask what happened between her and me, but please allow me to refuse. In short, that's not something you need to know. All you need to know is that she's still alive and well somewhere in this world." Wu Yu interrupted Layton, directly cutting off any discussion about Violet.
Telling them the truth wouldn't cause Wu Yu any trouble, but considering that the demons that Layton and the others were desperately fighting against were released by Violet, Wu Yu felt it was better not to tell them such a cruel truth.
Playing with other people's feelings is something only demons enjoy doing; Wu Yu doesn't have that kind of perverse taste.
Since Wu Yu had already said all that, Layton had no choice but to give up the idea of asking Wu Yu about Violet's whereabouts. Although there was still a rift between them, he was no longer as hostile to Wu Yu as before.
Once Ella had healed his injuries, Layton immediately stood up and asked, "What is your purpose in returning here?"
"Find someone to forge a weapon for me. In exchange, I will help your town defend against this demon invasion." Wu Yu still revealed one of his purposes. Resisting the demons could not rely on him alone; he needed to cooperate with the other forces in the town.
"You? What level are you at now?" Even though Wu Yu had shown power far exceeding his own, Layton didn't think he could resist the demon army on his own.
"Below the Saint level, I am the strongest. Don't worry, the Demon Clan won't send too many troops to such a remote place as Green Town," Wu Yu said confidently.
"Then I'll have to rely on you." Since Wu Yu was here to help, Layton had to thank him.
Although Wu Yu's words were somewhat disparaging of Green Town, it was the truth. Because they were too weak, the invading demons were not too strong. Otherwise, if a Saint-level demon came, it would probably be easy for one person to destroy the entire town.
"Don't worry, I always keep my promises. I promised Jess that I would never let Green Town be destroyed by the demons," Wu Yu said firmly.
"Wu Yu, do you know why Russell Manor suddenly caught fire?" After feeling reassured, Layton asked the question that was originally his purpose in coming here.
"Maybe it was because of the dry weather that it set itself on fire," Wu Yu lied through his teeth. "Or maybe the thief came to steal something, but when he got nothing, he got angry and set the fire."
