Benson Russell, a man with a mustache and a somewhat thin build, was sitting at the head of a rectangular dining table, dressed in a suit.
Benson was not annoyed by Jack's sudden outburst. Instead, he said with great composure, "My dear nephew Jack, I have been managing family affairs on your behalf recently. And as your elder, there should be nothing wrong with me sitting here, right?"
Jack, however, did not back down and retorted directly, "Uncle, now that I'm back, you no longer need to worry about our family affairs. You can go back to your own home tomorrow. Moreover, according to the laws of the Empire, I am the first in line to inherit the Russell family. After Father's death, I will be the head of your family. I am now ordering you, in the name of the head of the family, to step down from that position."
Even though Benson had a good temper, his face showed anger when he heard Jack's words, but he did not lash out. Instead, he got up and left, saying in a rather sarcastic tone, "Please take a seat, future Viscount."
Jack wasn't about to give up, and continued to press, "No need to add the word 'future.' I already went to the town's magic post station before dinner. My urgent letter will be delivered to the capital within three days. After His Majesty the Emperor reads it, the special envoy to bestow my title will arrive within a week. So soon I will be a true viscount."
"You." Benson's face turned completely ugly. He said in a cold voice, "Jack, why didn't you discuss such an important matter with me before taking action?"
“There’s absolutely no need for that.” Jack pushed Violet to the table, then took the head seat himself and confidently announced.
"His Majesty wouldn't care about changing a viscount. To him, as long as the documents are complete, it's just a matter of stamping them. I don't think there could be any obstacles involved. So, do you think there's any need to discuss something that's already decided, Uncle Benson?"
"How domineering!" Wu Yu looked at Jack, who was strategizing at the moment. He didn't expect Jack to have this side to him. No, actually, he has always had this decisive and ruthless style. He is not indecisive like a righteous person at all.
Moreover, Benson immediately unleashed his ultimate move, which Wu Yu could tell was because he was extremely angry.
“You’re right, Jack.” Benson’s voice became sharper, almost as if he were gritting his teeth.
What was supposed to be a nice family dinner turned into a wake after Jack's antics, with everyone wearing sour faces and not exchanging a single word with each other.
Please continue with your meal.
Wu Yu saw that Benson hadn't even taken two bites before he threw down his utensils and walked away.
The tense atmosphere eased considerably, and Violet picked up her small board again, writing on it...
"Brother, aren't you being too harsh? Uncle Benson is angry. He seems to be having a tough time lately. Why are you targeting him?"
Jack smiled, not trying to explain too much to her, but simply said, "Violet, please remember, all human sacrifices are for the sake of obtaining the rewards they expect. This is neither base nor noble. So you don't need to speculate or pity. Don't worry, I will handle everything."
Violet nodded as if she understood, but didn't say anything more.
Wu Yu felt that Jack was being a bit unfair, not telling him beforehand when he was about to make trouble. What if Benson suddenly turned on him?
However, Wu Yu could understand why Jack did this. They had agreed to sound out Benson's intentions, but since Benson had already taken the seat of the family head, there was no need to waste time. Jack already knew what he wanted to do.
Benson's decisive action did put Wu Yu in a difficult position, but he was also glad that he had held back this time. It was just unknown whether he had given up or had other plans.
With some worries on his mind, the food didn't taste as good as before. In the end, Wu Yu finished his dinner somewhat listlessly and decided to go back to his room to clear his head and think carefully about what role he should play in the future.
While pondering the problem and traversing the rather long corridor, Wu Yu suddenly stopped.
It wasn't that a sudden inspiration struck him, but rather that a figure was blocking his way. Wu Yu tilted his head, waiting for the figure to speak first.
"Lord Wu Yu, Master Benson has something to discuss with you," a man dressed as a waiter said respectfully.
So fast? This impatient attitude doesn't seem like the shrewd middle-aged man from before. Or is it that Jack's actions forced him to hurry up?
Wu Yu wasn't interested in what Benson wanted to say, but he didn't intend to refuse either. If he were to support Jack, he would inevitably become his enemy in the end. It was necessary to see what kind of person his opponent was beforehand. So Wu Yu said calmly, "Lead the way."
The waiter led Wu Yu into a room and then left.
Wu Yu glanced at the room's furnishings and gave it a low-key yet luxurious rating. There were at least ten antiques in the room that he couldn't appreciate, some valuable oil paintings on the walls, and the furniture didn't have the same signs of wear and tear as Jack's room.
But none of that mattered anymore. Wu Yu stared at the man with the mustache, and without any hesitation, sat down in the seat that had clearly been reserved for him. He picked up the tea that had been prepared in advance, took a sip, and casually said...
"You don't need to be polite with me. Just say what's on your mind. I'm looking forward to going back to rest. I don't want my habit of going to bed early and waking up early to be broken."
