Chapter Fourteen: Dividing the Army into Two Groups

On their way to Black Cloud Mountain, Wu Yu and his companions chose to travel by horse, but unfortunately Wu Yu couldn't ride a horse, so Jack had to bring out the same carriage they had used on the way back.

But this seemed to be part of Jack's calculations. When Wu Yu and his group arrived at the foot of Black Cloud Mountain Stronghold, it was already dark.

Night raids are indeed a common tactic in warfare, but looking at the majestic mountain before him, Wu Yu suddenly felt somewhat powerless.

After all, Wu Yu was just an ordinary person. In the past world, he had visited all five famous mountains, but even with man-made steps, he would often be exhausted when climbing them, let alone the treacherous natural environment before him.

Moreover, the proverb "looking at a mountain makes a horse run itself to death" is not without reason.

Although Black Cloud Mountain in front of them didn't look very high, Wu Yu estimated that it would take a normal person five or six hours to climb it, not to mention that they would have to avoid traps and eliminate sentries along the way.

Wu Yu had considered these issues before, but he hadn't brought them up because he believed Jack must have thought of them as well. However, Jack still insisted that he come along, so there must be some reason behind it.

Upon arriving at the foot of the mountain, Jack did not immediately head towards the summit, but instead opted to have the team rest on the spot.

They split into two groups: the guards were in one group, while Jack and Wu Yu were in another. They didn't light any fires and just silently ate the dry rations they had brought.

Suddenly, a voice reached Wu Yu's ears.

"Wu Yu, don't be surprised. I am Jack. I am communicating with you using a secret telepathic method. You don't need to reply. Just follow my instructions."

Wu Yu suddenly turned his head towards Jack, only to see that a half-eaten biscuit was blocking the lower half of his face, making it impossible to see his lips hidden behind it.

Wu Yu pretended to stretch his neck, then turned his head back, picked up his dry rations and chewed them, while listening attentively to Jack's message.

"I'll arrange for someone to stay here and cover our retreat. That person is you. The reason is that you can't keep up with our movements, so it won't arouse suspicion."

"But that's not what you really need to do. After we leave, count to two thousand in your mind, and then you can start. First, you need to kill all the guards' horses, which will slow down their return to the city. Then, untie the ropes on the carriages."

“I know you can’t ride a horse, but my horse is a spirit beast with low intelligence. I’ve already told it to obey your commands. You just need to ride on its back, and it won’t resist you.”

"Then you should immediately head to the Adventurers' Guild in Green Town. Although it's late now, I asked the adventurers I'm on good terms with to go home a little later tonight. Since I didn't tell them the specifics, not all of them will come to help you, but two or three people will be enough."

"Once you have assembled your forces, you should immediately attack Russell Manor."

Upon hearing this, Wu Yu was so startled that he dropped the dry rations in his hand. However, he quickly composed himself, pretended nothing had happened, and picked up another piece of dry rations to eat.

"To catch the thief, first catch the king. That's my real plan. As long as I capture Benson and keep him trapped for seven days, that will be my victory."

“I injured Benson’s foot. On the night you were assassinated, I tried to capture him, but I failed. He had a skilled fighter by his side, and I couldn’t defeat him quickly. I also couldn’t legitimately lead my troops to attack him, so I had to find another way.”

"Whether Keton is Benson's man or not is unimportant, and whether Kevin has betrayed me is also unimportant. As long as I reach the top of Black Cloud Mountain, Benson will definitely not let go of such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He can not only get rid of me, but also frame the bandits for my death to avoid giving them a pretext to criticize me."

Upon hearing this, Wu Yu's expression changed, and he wanted to say something, but Jack spoke too fast, giving Wu Yu no chance to interrupt.

"Benson will definitely send his main force to Black Cloud Mountain to ambush me, and this is a great opportunity for you to take advantage of the situation. Benson himself is only a second-tier warrior and has no subordinates to protect him. He is definitely no match for you."

“Go back to the manor and capture Benson, then go to Violet and have a maid named Sally put the ring on her and activate it. I can then rush back to the manor immediately. Besides, Sally is Benson’s woman, so she will be fine.”

Wu Yu looked at Jack anxiously, as if he wanted to say something but couldn't.

"Don't worry, just like I told you a few days ago, we're both at the fifth rank. Even if I'm no match for you, I won't be easily killed. So I'm entrusting my life and my sister's safety to you."

As he finished speaking, Jack had just finished the biscuit in his hand. He stood up, walked to the guards, and began to explain the arrangements for what was to come.

Wu Yu stood there blankly, chewing mechanically.

After Jack finished giving his instructions, the guards all shouldered their bags and lined up in formation.

"Hmph, I told you this good-for-nothing is useless, he only slows us down." Kevin said sarcastically again.

Wu Yu didn't retort, but simply watched them disappear into the night.

"Hey, don't just entrust your life to me so easily. Do you think I'm that reliable?" Wu Yu murmured softly after some time had passed.

"And he didn't even give me a chance to answer. What a domineering guy."

Wu Yu grumbled as he used his sword to support himself as he stood up.

Wu Yu approached the horse, stared at it with icy eyes.
