Chapter One: Forging Divine Weapons

"You're so ignorant, kid. Violet used to be our lord." Another guard, who looked more mature, mocked the recruit. Then, he looked at Wu Yu and said regretfully, "I'm sorry, news of Lord Violet's death came eight years ago. Because there was no direct heir, the territory here has been taken back by the kingdom, and the Russell family has been wiped out."

The guards clearly mistook Wu Yu for an uninformed outsider and were still trying to comfort him.

As expected, Violet did not return to Green Town. Wu Yu was not concerned about the extinction of the Russell family, because he knew that Violet was still alive and well somewhere.

"Is that so?" Wu Yu feigned a gloomy expression and pleaded, "We've come from a very far place. I wonder if you could let us in to resupply?"

"Don't be shy, refugees suffering from hardship. Warmth has always been a virtue of Green Town."

The guards were easy to talk to. They simply registered Wu Yu and his companion's basic information and let them into the town. This was also thanks to the fact that humans had never appeared before, so even in this critical moment of life and death, the humans, who were prone to infighting, did not show any signs of mutual suspicion.

Upon entering Green Town, apart from some essential civilian facilities, there are almost no other shops on the streets. In this time of widespread fear, people no longer pursue anything beyond the most basic needs of food and clothing.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in prayer. The great God of Light will surely protect our town of Green and help it through this crisis." In the center of the town, the old priest, who had met Wu Yu once before, was calling on the people to pray.

Wu Yu guessed that the reason for choosing to hold the event outdoors was because all the idle people in the entire town of Green had come over, and his small church could not accommodate so many residents.

Ten years had passed since they last met, and Wu Yu could no longer remember what the stranger looked like. He only felt that the stranger looked older than before, but Wu Yu also felt that the stranger had gained something more about him: he had gained a sense of prestige.

In turbulent times, people are more likely to develop faith. When they realize that they cannot protect themselves on their own, they can only entrust their hopes to those ethereal gods.

Wu Yu's most direct impression along the way was that religions in various places were recruiting believers on a large scale, and even the country no longer stopped them. It was only because the Church of Light was the state religion of the Ultra Empire that the Church of Light had a monopoly in Green Town.

The end times are imminent, yet the gods are ruthlessly plundering faith. I wonder how many gods they plan to descend this time, and whether this small area will be enough for them to divide. Will they end up fighting?

Wu Yu felt that the battle between gods could very well be the cause of the apocalypse.

Well, let's keep this speculation in mind for now.

Wu Yu kept his head down the whole time, lost in his own thoughts, completely uninterested in the prayer that was happening right in front of him.

“Sir, won’t you come and pray with us?” someone tried to invite Wu Yu.

Wu Yu paused for a moment, and after confirming that the other party was calling him, he replied, "I have the ability to achieve self-redemption, so why should I bow and scrape to the gods?"

After saying that, he ignored the other person's complicated expression and left.

Wu Yu's first stop in Green Town was not the castle where the Russell family lived, but a blacksmith shop located on the edge of the town.

The last time Wu Yu came here, the place was deserted, but now business is booming. When Wu Yu arrived, a large group of adventurers came out of the shop with weapons in their hands.

When Wu Yu entered the shop, it was empty, but his keen ears could hear the clanging of metal.

"Wait for me outside for a moment," he instructed Joyce.

Wu Yu followed the sound alone, passing through a row of curtains used for concealment, and entered a brightly lit room.

Jess, the blacksmith's owner, was bare-armed, holding a large hammer and forcefully striking a red-hot iron sword.

Hearing the sound of someone trespassing, Jess did not stop what he was doing, but he said in an annoyed voice, "Didn't I tell you not to bother me like this? If you need any weapons, just take them outside. If you need equipment repaired, just leave it on the counter. I'll definitely have it fixed when you come to pick it up tomorrow."

"Hey, when did you start offering free services? You used to charge me an astronomical price to fix my sword back then," Wu Yu said jokingly, staring at Jess's retreating figure.

"Clang." With a heavy blow, the iron sword in Wu Yu's eyes was now fully formed. Jess placed it into the prepared water to quench it, while he himself turned around abruptly to look at Wu Yu, his face full of shock.

"I really didn't expect you to still remember me. Should I say it's my honor?" Wu Yu said jokingly.

"You're still alive?" Jess said in surprise.

"I'd like to ask, why do you think I'm dead?" Jess's reaction was rather intriguing, completely unlike the reaction one would expect when seeing a stranger they'd only met a few times.

“Because Violet came to see me.” Jess took out the quenched iron sword and placed it aside, then walked over and said solemnly.

"Wait, let me sort this out first. There's a lot of information in what you just said." Wu Yu rubbed his forehead, carefully considering this unexpected turn of events.

After a long pause, Wu Yu finally managed to utter, "So you also know that Violet isn't a petite and delicate little girl?"
