"Damn it, I'm never riding a horse again." These were the first words Wu Yu uttered as he climbed off the horse.
The horse wasn't particularly fierce, but the long run of several hours had really left Wu Yu somewhat exhausted.
Knowing there was an operation tonight, Wu Yu had taken a short nap in the carriage beforehand, but now that it was past midnight, he instinctively started to feel sleepy again.
Mental exhaustion is relatively easy to deal with.
Physically, after this period of bumpy travel, Wu Yu felt like his buttocks no longer belonged to him, and his body was about to fall apart.
Wu Yu couldn't understand why he didn't stop to rest along the way; Jack really liked to cause him trouble.
Looking at the still-open doors of the Adventurers' Guild, Wu Yu put aside his complaints and dragged his tired body into the building.
The Adventurers' Guild was no longer as lively as it had been during the day; the staff had all gone home, and only a few kerosene lamps remained lit on the tables and chairs that were usually reserved for adventurers to rest.
Wu Yu glanced around and saw exactly ten people there, all well-equipped warriors. However, Wu Yu only recognized Layton and the priestess beside him. He had never even met the other eight, but since they were people Wu Yu had found, they should all be trustworthy.
As soon as Wu Yu stepped into the Adventurers' Guild, the ten people who had been idle immediately focused their attention on him.
Wu Yu remained calm and said unhurriedly, "Everyone, you don't know me, but that's okay. You just need to know that I was sent by Jack."
"So you're the person Young Master Jack told me to wait for. Tell me, what kind of help does he want us to provide? And why isn't he coming himself?" one of the adventurers with a knife asked.
“Jack is currently unable to extricate himself from this situation. Although things are quite complicated, I can explain them to you. Simply put, it's a battle for a title. Those of you who are willing to help can come with me, while those who wish to remain neutral are free to do so as well. Gentlemen, please state your choices.”
Wu Yu had come up with this explanation on horseback. In fact, Wu Yu initially planned to hire these adventurers through a commission, but Jack didn't even give him a single copper coin, which shows that he wasn't prepared to solve the problem with money from the beginning.
At first, Wu Yu didn't quite understand, but later he figured it out. Although he wasn't very clear about the laws of this country, attacking a noble manor was illegal no matter how you looked at it, so if he wanted to ask for help, he could only rely on the friendship between them.
"Is the title dispute with Baron Benson? Although he is only a baron, the empire has a strict prohibition against attacking nobles."
A woman carrying a longbow was clearly more perceptive and immediately noticed the problem.
The other adventurers hesitated upon hearing this.
"I don't want you to do anything heinous. Just help me capture Benson. You don't need to hurt him; just keep him confined for a few days," Wu Yu continued to persuade him.
Wu Yu's words eased the mood of the adventurers somewhat, but none of them expressed their opinions.
"Sigh." Wu Yu sighed helplessly, turned around and walked outside. Even if he couldn't count on these people, he had to return to the manor. He might not be able to catch Benson, but he had to protect Violet. Otherwise, Jack would never forgive him when he returned.
"Wait." Just as Wu Yu was about to walk out the door, a rough voice called out to him.
Wu Yu turned around in surprise and saw that the person was actually Layton.
“There’s really no way around it. Since Young Master Jack didn’t come in person, he’s probably doing something that’s life-threatening. I led him on his first mission as an adventurer. He’s my junior, and even though he’s surpassed me now, I can’t just leave him to fend for himself. Ella, are you going?” Layton asked the priestess beside him.
"Hmm." The priestess didn't say much, but simply nodded in agreement.
"Well, since Layton is going to join in the fun, I'll go with him."
"Speaking of which, I still owe Young Master Jack three gold coins. I wonder if helping him this time will be enough to pay off the debt."
“Young Master Jack saved my life, I can’t just stand by and watch him die this time.”
And so, under Layton's lead, all ten people present chose to act with Wu Yu.
"And you said there were only two or three people? Jack, you're underestimating your own charisma!" Wu Yu thought to himself, secretly mocking Jack. Then, with a wave of his hand, he excitedly exclaimed...
"Well then, everyone, thank you! Let's go."
The group headed towards the manor in a grand procession.
The physical abilities of the superhumans are truly remarkable. Even when riding horses, they could easily keep up, and with no one holding them back, they quickly returned to the manor.
At night, the entire manor is shrouded in darkness, except for a few scattered lights in the main hall, which shine like a lighthouse in the night, guiding people to their destination.
Wu Yu looked at the open gate, and there wasn't a single servant on night watch around. Although he hesitated for a moment, Wu Yu finally decided to go in directly.
When Wu Yu led his men to the main hall's entrance, he gently pushed the door open.
The blinding light hit him in the face, and Wu Yu squinted as he carefully surveyed his surroundings.
The entire hall was illuminated by a lighting system that required magic crystals to power it. Jack had told him that this equipment was very expensive and that his family would never use it unless they were hosting a party. Yet, at this moment, it was as bright as day.
Benson was sitting in the main seat that belonged to Jack, and behind him, all the servants of the manor stood respectfully in silence. On the table next to him was an opened bottle of red wine, the blood-red liquid served in a clear crystal glass.
