Chapter Thirteen: False Signals

Not long after Violet and the others left, the priest who looked like a middle-aged woman buying groceries finally finished attaching life marks to one hundred rabbits.

The priestess stretched her ample waist, loosened her muscles, and then said to the thief beside her, "It's done. Should we go and meet up with the boss and the others next?"

The weasel-faced thief gave a sinister smile and said, "No need. The boss gave me a signal when he left. There's no need to keep up the act. Let's grab these two and wait for the boss's signal."

The thief did not lower his voice when he spoke, and everyone present could hear him clearly.

Ella was still a little confused, but Layton understood the implication. He secretly marveled that Wu Yu had guessed correctly, and then made a decisive move. He ran to Ella's side, hoisted her onto his shoulder, and rushed towards the direction where the mage was.

However, the difference between the strength of the third rank and the sixth rank is like heaven and earth. The thief yawned and easily walked behind Layton. With another chop, he knocked Layton, who was as strong as a gorilla, unconscious.

"Ah!" Ella fell from Layton's shoulder to the ground, crying out in pain.

Ignoring her own scrapes, she rushed over and shook the fallen Layton, saying, "Layton, wake up."

But Layton only let out a heavy breath and did not regain consciousness.

Ella breathed a sigh of relief at first, then glared angrily at the thief. "Why did you do this? Aren't we comrades?"

"Haha, what a naive fool," the thief sneered in his slightly hoarse voice. "Haven't you realized yet? You've been tricked."

"Tsk tsk, such a great figure, such a stupid brain, why did she even become an adventurer? Although she's not as hot as that girl from before, she can still have some fun." The thief leered at Ella's body.

"You, you..." Ella was furious, but she was helpless against the thief.

"Mental weakness"

[Sleeping Spell]

The mage, who had been standing to the side with a stern face, seemed to be getting impatient. He casually cast a spell to stun Ella, ending what he found to be a rather uninteresting conversation, and then warned the thief.

"We're still short two human sacrifices. You can't touch these two."

"It's just for fun. The demon didn't say the sacrifice had to be a virgin," the thief said nonchalantly, before trying to grope Ella.

"You're going to die at a woman's hands sooner or later. This one's a bit out of control. Don't cause any trouble. Once we get the boss's signal, we need to rush over to help. Or do you want me to force you to relieve your pent-up desire?"

The mage knocked the thief's claws off with his staff, then pointed it at the thief and threatened him.

"Tch, it's better to die at the hands of a woman than to be tricked to death by a demon. He didn't give us any benefits and just made us run around for him. Only that old codger would be so easily fooled. If you ask me, why wouldn't a demon kill us humans who are practically insects after breaking the seal?" the thief said irritably.

"Magic - Impact".

[Deadly Beam]

A white laser beam shot out from the tip of the staff, but the thief simply sidestepped it.

The thief quickly surrendered, "Alright, alright, I'll do whatever you say. I'm done playing, okay? This is really bad luck. I wanted to have some fun before I died. Anyway, after this heist, I'm going to go solo. I don't plan on taking the devil's gift."

"Whatever," the monk said nonchalantly, then walked over and opened the cage containing the rabbits.

Upon discovering that the cage had been opened, the rabbits began to flee in panic, each running off in a different direction.

"Barry, go back and tell your father to come and greet the demon." The mage looked in the direction of the dragon, his eyes filled with worry.

······

"Miss Violet, do you need to rest for a bit?" Even though Manan had tried to slow down, he found that Violet was still struggling to keep up with him.

“No need, let’s go into the cave,” Violet said enthusiastically, wiping the sweat from her brow.

"No, no, no, Miss Violet, only one of us can go into the cave, and one of us must stay outside," Manan quickly advised, seeing Violet's eagerness to rush in.

“These two bells are synchro bells. If you shake one of them, it won’t make any sound, but the other bell will make a sound instead. Miss Violet, you can take this bell.” Manan took two bells out of his bag and handed one to Violet.

"I'll go in and check the situation later. If the dragon is asleep, I'll ring the bell once, and then you can come in and join me. If it's not asleep, I'll ring the bell twice, and you should leave immediately, while I'll find a way to escape on my own."

Violet took the bell from Manan, but refused, saying, "No, I don't want Wu Yu to be too far ahead of me. I want to go in and find Wu Yu, and then see the dragon. Uncle Manan, leave the scouting to me."

Ma Nan frowned and said, "But if you encounter a situation where a dragon awakens, you don't have the ability to escape!"

“Uncle Manan, I’m not afraid. If I’m going to be an adventurer, I’ll naturally put my life and death aside. Besides, Wu Yu is inside, he will definitely protect me,” Violet said without any fear.

Ma Nan initially looked reluctant, but when he heard Violet mention Wu Yu, his expression hardened, and he hesitated before saying, "Alright then, but don't be reckless. If you encounter your companion in the cave beforehand, don't rush in. Bring him back, and we'll discuss this further."

"Okay, Uncle Manan," Violet readily agreed, then hurriedly ran into the cave.

Watching Violet skip away and disappear from sight, a cold smile crept onto Manan's lips.

Violet jogged along and quickly reached a dark spot. Cleverly, she took out a torch from her storage ring and lit it with a flint and steel.

A gloomy, damp cave appeared before Violet's eyes, yet she was not at all like a timid little girl.

Violet surveyed the cave layout with great interest, playfully kicking the pebbles on the ground with her boots, as if on a picnic, and continued on her way.

The cave wasn't long, and Violet soon reached its deepest part.

By the light of the torch, Violet saw the dragon sleeping there. Her bright blue eyes widened, and she excitedly wanted to rush over and touch its hard scales.

However, before she could run two steps, Violet seemed to remember something, took out a bell from her storage ring, and shook it with a mischievous grin.

"Ding-a-ling!" The bell outside made a crisp sound.

After a while, another clear bell rang.

The dragon has awakened, and everyone outside has received this message.
