The saying "many hands make light work" is indeed true. The combined construction speed of these hundred-plus monsters is much faster than Wu Yu working alone.
Wu Yu fully utilized the characteristics of capitalism, bringing exploitation and oppression to their fullest extent.
After supervising the group of monsters for almost a day, they successfully dug down about 100 meters. Based on the progress, Wu Yu estimated that he would be able to reach his destination in a few days.
However, problems still exist. Wu Yu's logistics are not guaranteed. Apart from some miscellaneous items and tools, the remaining space in his storage ring can only hold enough dry food for the two of them.
Of course, even if Wu Yu had an infinitely large storage space, he still couldn't afford to buy that much grain.
So now all we have to do is clean up the waste.
One of the dog-headed monsters was left behind, its hands crippled, and Violet guarded it, while Wu Yu led the other monsters to another cave entrance.
Upon reaching the end of the cave, Wu Yu, without saying a word, drew his sword and began to slash.
Wu Yu didn't like doing things that were like draining the pond to catch all the fish, but unfortunately, he was out of feed now.
If he lets these monsters stay with him, they will eventually rebel under the threat of death and be killed by him. Moreover, if he is unlucky, some of them may escape and inform others. Therefore, Wu Yu can only deal with them after he has squeezed out all their value.
Mercy also requires strength, and the greatest mercy Wu Yu could show was killing them with a single blow when he was about to kill them.
With a three-meter-wide opening, Wu Yu only needed to block one end, and the group of demons would have nowhere to escape. At first, the demons were kneeling and begging for mercy, but after most of their kind died, they began to fight back.
However, in street battles like this, the advantage of numbers is greatly diminished. If it were a third-tier superhuman, being worn down by the monsters' life-for-life tactics, he might also be defeated.
But Wu Yu is different. He has a system, and his fighting style is as precise as a machine. For him, there is no such thing as making a mistake. When the battle ends, he is still unharmed.
A strong stench of blood filled the air, and the accumulated blood began to seep into the soil.
Wu Yu stared expressionlessly at the mountain of corpses and sea of blood he had created, picked up a shovel, and began digging into the soil beside him.
After roughly blocking the entrance, Wu Yu left.
Wu Yu only needs to ensure that the stench of corpses and the smell of blood don't spread too quickly. Once he reaches the roots of the Tree of Life, it won't be a big deal if the demons discover him.
After returning, Wu Yu called Violet over without any qualms, took out some rations, and ate with her to replenish his strength. Wu Yu also shared some food with the remaining kobold, as he would need him to lead the way later. Wu Yu didn't want him to suddenly rebel and get himself killed.
The dry rations weren't tasty, but Wu Yu saw them as a necessary means to achieve his goal, regardless of personal preference; he needed to maintain his stamina here.
Violet, however, remained silent, prompting Wu Yu to speak up, "What's wrong? Are you already tired of the food? Then have some fruit. I'm sorry to have made you suffer here with me."
Wu Yu took out a piece of fruit from his storage ring and handed it over. The storage space did not have a preservation function, so Wu Yu only brought a few pieces of fruit to temporarily satisfy his appetite for the first few days.
However, Violet did not reach out to take it. She stared intently at Wu Yu and asked seriously, "Wu Yu, did you just go and kill them?"
In the dim cave, the magical artifact in front of him should have been the only source of light, but Wu Yu felt that Violet's blue eyes seemed brighter. His own image was reflected in them, a man with a human appearance, but how did she perceive him?
“That’s right.” Wu Yu admitted calmly, because in his view, there was nothing wrong with what he had done, so he naturally had no need to fabricate these lies to cover up the truth.
"Wu Yu, have you considered letting them go?" Violet continued to ask.
Wu Yu tried to see something in Violet's eyes: was she just being overly compassionate or did she have other thoughts?
But you wouldn't guess it. Violet has been unusually well-behaved lately. Once she stopped acting so willfully, Wu Yu found that her presence seemed a bit unreal, carrying an ethereal indifference, like a doll without any distinguishing features.
“Letting them go would be troublesome; our lives might be in danger.” Wu Yu couldn’t figure out Violet’s thoughts, so he could only try to reason with her logically. Wu Yu couldn’t change his ways for Violet’s sake, but he also didn’t want these things to become a barrier between them.
“If my brother were here, he would probably think of a way to let them go,” Violet said with certainty.
Wu Yu didn't know where Violet got her confidence from. Wu Yu recalled Jack's way of dealing with people. He would try his best to protect the vast majority of people, but Wu Yu didn't think he would protect the demons. The concept of the difference between humans and demons was deeply rooted in this world. But Violet definitely understood Jack better than he did. Maybe he was just that kind of strange guy?
“I am not Jack.” But that was irrelevant to Wu Yu. Jack was someone he admired, but not someone he wanted to become. So Wu Yu simply emphasized a fact indifferently, dispelling Violet’s unrealistic fantasies.
"Is what Wu Yu wants to do really that important? Does he have to go to such lengths for it?" Violet was not discouraged; she tried to persuade him from another angle.
