Chapter Thirty-One: Catching the Traitor

Fortunately, Wu Yu was knowledgeable and experienced, and he told Jerry his guess: "This is the power of the law, isn't it?"

Jerry's hand had now fully recovered. He shook his head and said, "No, this is a power bestowed by the gods. I have become a chosen one of the God of Destruction, and he gave me this right hand that can disintegrate all things. Divine gifts are an extension of divine authority; they are power that transcends the laws of nature."

A chosen one? Are you taking advantage of my lack of education?

Wu Yu hadn't been reading knight novels for nothing these past few days. The concept of a "chosen one" often appeared in those novels. Simply put, it means being chosen by the gods and then being born with an extraordinary talent.

These talents vary in strength and are incredibly diverse. Decomposing everything is nothing special; Wu Yu even saw a protagonist in the book whose talent was freezing time. After all, it's an ability bestowed by the gods, so it can't be too low-class.

But the key point is, aren't those favored by the gods born that way? Wu Yu had never heard of them being able to be cultivated later in life.

"How did you find out about this?" Just as Wu Yu was still complaining in his heart, Jerry also started asking Wu Yu questions.

"There's nothing I can do, your weaknesses are too great." Wu Yu said helplessly, "I exchanged a few blows with the guy who kidnapped Philliss, and to be frank, you wouldn't last a single move against him, and he's probably not the kind of person who would hold back on purpose."

"So that's how it is." Jerry said with a wry smile. He had thought of this flaw before, but Wu Yu hadn't suspected it at the time, and he thought Wu Yu had overlooked it.

"Do you regret it?" Wu Yu asked casually, without scolding Jerry, showing that he didn't care about other people's choices.

"Regret what? Betraying Philliss? Or was it coming to you for help back then?" Jerry countered. "Since I did it, there's no going back. I just hate myself for being so weak. If I had power, why would I have betrayed you? If I had power, why would I need to rely on others?"

As Jerry spoke, his fists clenched tighter, and without him even realizing it, his fingernails pierced his fingers, drawing blood.

"No, what I want to ask is whether you regret taking revenge." Wu Yu shook his head, once again trying to persuade Jerry to let go of his hatred.

“Impossible.” Jerry shouted these three words. He was initially a little afraid of Wu Yu, but now he met his gaze firmly. “If you want to punish me, I will accept whatever it is.”

"What if I were to kill you?" Wu Yu said casually.

His killing intent transformed into sharp blades, poised at Jerry's vital points, making him feel as if he were in a dragon's den or a tiger's lair, with the shadow of death surrounding him.

Jay's face stiffened, and after a long pause, he finally spoke, "If I don't do something, living is more painful than dying for me."

"So you know your chances of revenge are slim, huh?" Wu Yu was amused by Jerry's words. He wasn't going to say anything more to this incorrigible guy. "Answer one more question, and it will determine whether you'll be punished."

Jerry jolted, his whole body tensing up with nervousness.

"If you still need to betray Philliss to gain power next time, what will you choose?"

What kind of question is this? You know, there's no such thing as a lie detector in this world. Answering yes or no doesn't prove anything at all.

Jerry tried to see something in Wu Yu's eyes, but Wu Yu just looked relaxed and couldn't see through him at all.

“I will choose power.” In the end, Jerry gave his answer.

"You're quite honest, aren't you?" Wu Yu said with a chuckle. "Or are you deliberately courting death to seek relief?"

Jerry remained silent, tacitly agreeing with Wu Yu's statement.

"Don't look so serious. I'm not going to do anything to you. I'll let you off the hook this time," Wu Yu said calmly.

"Why?" Jerry exclaimed in surprise. Although he had guessed that Wu Yu might let him go, there would still be some punishment.

“I won’t do anything meaningless,” Wu Yu explained. “For a large organization like that, losing you doesn’t change the fact that they can still turn others against them, and the exposed mole is no longer a threat. Since killing you won’t help, why add to the bloodshed?”

Wu Yu's words were not wrong, but even if Jerry was killed, there would be no loss. Jerry did not think Wu Yu was the kind of person who was soft-hearted. Jerry asked angrily, "Do you not care about the safety of the princess at all?"

"If I encounter such a situation, I will choose to help," Wu Yu said tactfully.

"Heh, so you won't care if you didn't see it? That's right, you don't care about the safety of the people in the desolate city either." Even though Jerry was the one who made the mistake, there was a hint of blame in his words.

Wu Yu no longer wanted to get entangled with Jerry over these trivial matters. He hadn't called Jerry over today just to give him psychological counseling.

"Let's stop here and move on to the next thing. Can you tell me who bribed you?"

Wu Yu asked casually. If Jerry didn't want to talk, he couldn't force him to open his mouth. But since he had already revealed what power he had gained, he probably wouldn't choose to hide it.

Jerry pondered for a moment, then spoke as Wu Yu had expected: "Mr. Wu Yu, I wonder if you have heard of the [Outer God Alliance]?"

"Hmm." Wu Yu nodded, indicating that he understood.

He had indeed heard of it, but only knew the name. Wu Yu had no idea what it did, but he was sure it was very powerful, after all, it was one of the three major organizations alongside the Apocalypse Society.
