Chapter Twenty: A Heroic Farewell to Death

There are some people in this world who tend to panic and miss opportunities when a crisis strikes.

There is another type of person in this world who, no matter what the circumstances, remains fearless in the face of danger and thus manages to survive against all odds.

Jack was undoubtedly the latter; even after witnessing the Demon King's overwhelming power, he never considered giving up.

Jack drew his sword and plunged it into the sand.

Then his fighting spirit erupted, and a vast expanse of silver fighting spirit covered his entire body. However, under Jack's deliberate guidance, all the fighting spirit was concentrated on a single sword.

Under the influence of the fighting spirit, the sand in the sandy area began to be continuously pushed apart.

Jack's body continued to sink, and when a space of several cubic meters was broken through the sand, sweat had soaked through Jack's clothes. A trace of fatigue flashed in his eyes, but his hands did not stop moving at all.

Jack put his sword back into his storage ring, then leaped out of the sandpit and hovered in mid-air. With a swift movement, a wooden plank larger than himself appeared in his hand.

Jack hurled the plank into the sandpit, and it embedded itself firmly in the sand. He then repeated this process five more times, using the planks instead of his fighting spirit to block the sand, and successfully carved out a solid living space in the sand.

"Wow, Jack, you're amazing! You even came up with this idea." Wu Yu's eyes lit up, and he couldn't help but praise him.

Wu Yu immediately pulled Jerry and hid in the sandpit.

The sandpit was large, but not deep enough to cover Wu Yu's head, so Wu Yu and Jerry had to crouch down so they could cover it with a lid later.

Wu Yu curled up as much as possible to give Jack enough space, then urged, "Come in quickly, Jack. If the demon army finds us, all our efforts will be in vain."

Jack ignored Wu Yu's shouts. He stood outside the sandpit, took out a bottle of transparent potion, and sprayed it into the air. He explained, "This is a dust-removing potion. Spraying it on your body will eliminate the smell of humans, so you won't be detected by some demons with a keen sense of smell."

"Don't explain, come down first. I'll tell you all this when you have time." Wu Yu was becoming increasingly anxious.

Jack, seemingly oblivious, retrieved a scroll and a black dagger from his storage ring, tossed them aside, and continued explaining.

"The scroll contains a third-tier wind magic spell called [Storm Hammer]. If you can't open the lid on your head later, you can use it to solve the problem. As for this enchanted dagger, you can use it for self-defense. It's quite rare to find a substance in this world that it can't cut."

"What use are these junks to me with you by my side?!" Wu Yu started swearing in his emotional outburst.

As always, Jack patiently tolerated Wu Yu's mistakes. He gently stroked the spatial ring in his hand, and soon he seemed to have made up his mind. He took it off his finger and casually tossed it at Wu Yu.

Seeing something fall, Wu Yu hurriedly caught it, and at that moment he finally realized what Jack was trying to do.

However, before Wu Yu could speak, Jack preemptively said, "This spatial ring is a family heirloom of our Russell family, and also a token of the heir. But if you feel you can't survive, then use the dagger I gave you to destroy it. There is food and gold coins inside that I have prepared, which should help you get through this difficult time."

If you wish to thank me, please take the fragment of the ring to a woman named Violet Russell in the town of Grimm, and also convey my message: 'My brother loves her.'"

"call out."

Jack easily caught the ring as it flew back with a flick of his wrist. He tilted his head, looking at Wu Yu, who was filled with anger, with a puzzled expression.

"What, you want to fight the demons to the death? The people of the desolate city are already dead, and the Demon King is someone you absolutely cannot contend with. You can't take revenge, so as a nobleman, you have to go and die with those guys whose names you don't even know? Don't tell me this is some kind of bullshit noble honor."

"If it's really for such a disgusting reason, then let me tell you, Jack, I absolutely will not pass on your message. Just let your precious little sister wait for you for the rest of her life." Wu Yu mocked Jack with an all-knowing look in his eyes. This was the first time he had looked at Jack, whom he considered omnipotent, with such disdain.

"Wu Yu, I knew I'd been looking forward to becoming friends with you all along."

Wu Yu never imagined that Jack, who had a slightly expressionless face, could show such a gentle smile. That warm smile, like sunshine, made Wu Yu unable to maintain his carefully crafted sarcasm.

Wu Yu pleaded, "Then come down. We'll have plenty of opportunities to be friends in the future."

Jack smiled and shook his head, then stretched out his arm with his five fingers spread wide.

"Tap, tap." The ring fell to the floor.

"Wu Yu, I'm not as rigid as you think. I won't seek death for such a trivial reason, but this time I'm determined to die."

"Why?" Wu Yu asked, unable to understand.

"Because of the fundamental difference between you and me, I possess battle aura while you do not. When you are hidden underground, as long as you do not reveal your human presence, to the Demon King, you are no different from insects, and He will likely ignore you completely."

"But when facing an opponent four ranks higher than me, any method of concealment is useless. My battle aura is like a torch in the night, utterly impossible to hide from."
