Chapter Twenty-Five: Choice

What a difficult choice!

When a pretty and adorable girl is in trouble, she blinks her big, watery eyes and begs for help. How could Wu Yu, a passionate and upright young man of modern society, possibly refuse her?

Moreover, the reward offered was the whole world. Even from a businessman's perspective, he should have walked to the gallows without fear, just as Marx said.

If it were me yesterday, I probably would have readily agreed by now.

Even knowing the risks involved, the rich rewards made Wu Yu, who had previously resolved to live an ordinary life, waver.

There are two ways to live an ordinary life: one is to live a life of aimless toil, and the other is to gain everything and then resolutely give it all up.

If given a choice, Wu Yu would definitely prefer the second option, and having the system, he also has the right to make that choice.

But Wu Yu hesitated. He glanced at Jack, who was standing silently to the side, and asked casually, like a friend, "What are your plans after this?"

Jack naturally picked up the conversation, "I've been away from home for a long time. I'll probably go back to visit my sister for a while. After I've rested up, I want to go to the Elven realm to continue my adventures. I've heard they're a bit xenophobic, so I haven't dared to go before. But now I think it's better not to have any regrets in life."

"What a fulfilling life!" Wu Yu nodded at Jack, saying with great longing.

“But if you want to come home with me, I will prioritize helping you regenerate your left hand. As far as I know, there are two places in the world where the miracle of limb regeneration can be achieved. Do you want to come?”

Jack's tone was very calm, much like when he invited Wu Yu to dinner when they were colleagues in the past.

But Wu Yu was stunned. He looked at Jack's right hand, which was outstretched towards him, and there was a red bloodstain on the leather glove.

Wu Yu suddenly grinned, gently pushed away Phillis who was grabbing him, and turned to hold Jack's hand.

It's still as small as last time, but why does it always give me such a sense of peace?

Wu Yu couldn't help but start to fantasize: if he could have someone he cared about in this world, would life have a new meaning?

"A hero?" Phillis exclaimed, somewhat bewildered, as he was pushed away.

"I'm sorry, Your Highness, I don't have the magnanimity to bear the weight of the world on my shoulders, and I've disappointed you," Wu Yu said apologetically.

“It’s alright.” Phillis shook his head vigorously. “What makes a hero a hero is not what he will do in the future, but what he has done in the past. No matter what happens in the future, a hero will always be a hero in my heart.”

How incredibly understanding! Wu Yu suddenly realized that his luck wasn't so bad after all.

Wu Yu nodded gratefully to Philliss. Having just rejected him, he had nothing more to say but to show his feelings through his actions.

“Baron Jack, you were injured earlier, weren’t you? I have a bottle of high-grade life potion here, please accept it.” Phillis’s expression still showed some regret, but she didn’t dwell on it.

She gently stroked the sapphire ring on her right index finger, and a bottle of emerald green potion appeared in her hand. She handed it to Jack, who looked somewhat listless.

"Yo-ho." Wu Yu winked at Jack and gave him an encouraging gesture.

“Thank you for your kindness, Your Highness.” Jack bowed slightly and then politely accepted the potion from Philliss.

"You're welcome." Phillis's tone was still gentle, but once her face was out of Wu Yu's sight, it had become as cold as ice.

Philliss slowly opened and closed his lips, speaking to Jack in a silent manner.

“Neither righteousness nor desire were the reasons that drove him to act.”

"It's a miscalculation of me that someone as powerful as you would be swayed by emotions. I'll consider this a win for now."

Jack, as if he hadn't seen anything, calmly opened the bottle of potion and slowly drank it.

"You're wondering, and all you're thinking is wondering? What a cold heart you have. It's a pity I still managed to read this faint emotion. That's enough."

"It's interesting that I didn't even know you existed before. I have to admit, you're qualified to be my opponent."

Jack remained silent. After drinking the potion, he casually tossed the bottle aside.

A series of cracking sounds emanated from Jack's bones. He stretched out his palm, focused his mind, and a powerful silver battle aura appeared on his hand.

"It's truly worthy of the 'advanced' label; the effect is immediate. Jack, are you alright?" Wu Yu asked happily, looking at Jack, who was in good condition.

"Yes, I've fully recovered. As expected of a high-grade life potion made from the sap of the Ancient Tree of Life, it's practically a holy grail for healing. It seems the rumors about snatching life back from the jaws of death are not false. If I could buy a few bottles to carry with me, I'd have an extra layer of protection when I go on adventures in the future." Jack rarely showed a happy smile as he spoke with emotion.

"It's useful, that's good." Princess Philliss didn't care about the loss just now at all, and continued, "I have something else to give you, please accept it."

Another exquisite gold card appeared at Phillis's fingertip. Wu Yu looked at it curiously, but unfortunately, due to the angle, he couldn't see anything.

"Thank you, Your Highness." After accepting the gift, Jack quickly put it into his storage ring, not giving Wu Yu, who was leaning over, a chance to peek.
