Chapter Twenty-Four: Crossroads in Life

Wu Yu knew that the person in front of him was on the verge of a mental breakdown.

When his heart cannot accept the reality before him, the only thing he can do is distort himself.

Wu Yu had also fallen into this predicament before, but he successfully overcame it. However, he didn't know how to help others overcome this hurdle.

To be more precise, Jerry had already woven a reason in his mind. His current questioning was just an excuse to deceive himself. When he killed himself and Jack, at least temporarily, his mind would be relieved.

Knowing that words were no longer of much use, Wu Yu had lost patience to coax the child. He would use the skill [Evasion] to dodge Jerry's first attack, and then use [Insight] to disable his mobility.

This is the power of the system. Even though Wu Yu is now extremely weak, the system can still force him to do what he wants. As for the damage to his body, let's talk about that after he survives.

Wu Yu looked coldly at Jerry, pointed to his severed arm, and directly stated his truest thoughts: "Because I don't know if I can defeat the Demon King. As for those guys you mentioned whose names I don't even know, they are not worthy of me gambling my life."

"Then why don't you die too!" Jerry roared, resolutely thrusting out the dagger in his hand.

Humans really are foolish creatures. With this thought in mind, Wu Yu quietly waited for the skill to activate. He was too tired, too tired to even extend a helping hand to a poor child.

"Tick-tock".

A drop of blood fell onto Wu Yu's pants.

Wu Yu's skill was not activated, and he was not the one who was injured.

Because a slender arm had already reached past him and grabbed the gleaming dagger.

This dagger lived up to Jack's previous praise; even with fighting spirit wrapped around it, it successfully cut through Jack's leather glove and injured the skin underneath.

Jack twisted his hand and easily snatched the dagger back, but this exhausted his last bit of strength. He collapsed weakly onto Wu Yu's back, and Wu Yu could even hear his faint breathing.

"Are you alright?" Wu Yu asked anxiously, too afraid to move, lest he hurt Jack again.

"Fortunately, the Demon King didn't make a move. I was only injured by the recoil from my own attack. My fighting spirit was mainly drained by that previous attack, so I'm a little weak, but I'm not in any danger. I'll recover after a few days of rest," Jack said with a smile, reassuring Wu Yu.

"Why did you stop me? A bastard like that should be dead. How could he just stand by and watch him die?" Jerry looked at Jack humbly, overwhelmed by immense grief.

"Shhh".

Just as Wu Yu was about to lash out, Jack breathed a breath into his ear, stopping him.

"And what about me? I didn't save you either, did I? Are you going to kill me too?" Jack asked seriously.

“It’s different. I know you tried your best.” Jerry shook his head and quickly denied it.

“Ha.” Jack laughed. “If you only look at the result, then why did you forgive me? If you only look at the process, then what right do you have to blame him?”

"But I... I really don't know what to do... I... I..."

Jerry knelt down in front of Wu Yu and the others. The young boy could no longer bear the immense pressure, and tears streamed down his face uncontrollably.

When he could no longer even maintain his anger, he finally realized that he had nothing left, and crying was pointless, but it was the only thing he wanted to do.

Jack placed his hand on Jerry's head, patted the dust off his head, and comforted him, "You're still alive, that's the greatest fortune. If you want to find a place to spend the rest of your life, I can give you the travel expenses to set off. If you can't let go of the hatred in your heart, then find a way to become stronger. The Demon King's next return won't be too long."

"Then can you take me as your apprentice?" Jerry looked up and stared at Jack with his bloodshot eyes.

“I’m sorry, I can make you stronger, but that’s far from enough to fulfill your wish. Only the most skilled teacher in the world, with endless resources, could cultivate a warrior qualified to stand before the Demon King. You should find someone else.” Jack shook his head and refused him.

Jerry reluctantly looked at Wu Yu.

Looking at Jerry's complicated expression, Wu Yu said helplessly, "Don't count on me. Although I can't explain why, I really can't teach you anything."

"I'm sorry, I'll figure it out myself." Jerry was a little disappointed, but he didn't give up. He stood up, walked a distance, and having nothing else to do, he could only sit down and rest.

"Hey, can you get off me? I can't take it anymore." Seeing that the matter was resolved, Wu Yu quickly complained to the person behind him.

"I shouldn't be fat, right?" Jack asked, a little doubtful.

"Is my kidney deficiency okay now?" After surviving the ordeal, Wu Yu was in the mood to joke.

"I see." Jack nodded seriously, indicating that he had remembered another important piece of information.

Then Jack, supporting himself on Wu Yu's shoulder, turned his body back around.

"Jack, I was just kidding, don't take it seriously." Feeling the force on his back, Wu Yu felt that he shouldn't have said such a thing to Jack, so he quickly changed his words.

“I know,” Jack said slowly, his tone ambiguous, making it impossible to tell if he was just being perfunctory.

Both of them were exhausted and had no intention of continuing the conversation.

Wu Yu's eyelids were even drooping, and he himself did not realize when he had fallen asleep.
