Chapter Twenty-Two: Taking the Blame

"Do you think we're fools? The dragon has ruled this place for ten thousand years. Even if it didn't actively collect the loot, every piece of equipment left behind by those failed dragon slayers is priceless," someone in the crowd said discontentedly.

"Everyone, please quiet down." It was the same fifth-tier professional. He looked so thin that he was just skin and bones, but he had a convincing charm when he spoke. The crowd, which had started to stir, quieted down after hearing his words.

He paused for a moment, then said politely to Wu Yu.

“Friend, you’re going too far by trying to take all the dragon’s treasure for yourself. We’ve all been trapped in the dungeon for over a year, and those despicable scoundrels have robbed us of all our savings. If we go back now, we’ll probably have no way to make a living.”

“I am personally very grateful to you for rescuing us from the dungeon. How about this: you take 60% of the dragon's treasure, and we, the dozen or so brothers, will divide the remaining 40% equally. How does that sound?”

The other party adopted a very humble attitude, and Wu Yu did not have the attribute of greed. If he really had this so-called evil dragon treasure, he would not mind sharing it with this group of people. But unfortunately, he was still in debt, so he could not accept this condition.

“We didn’t…” Violet tried to explain, but Wu Yu glared at her fiercely, interrupting her.

Wu Yu glanced at the group of guys with disdain and said scornfully, "I earned what I had through my own abilities, and you didn't help me at all, yet you want to split the profits 60/40 with me. Do you think you have the right to do that?"

Indeed, Wu Yu not only took the blame, but he did so with extraordinary arrogance. It wasn't that he liked being misunderstood, but no matter how reasonable and well-founded his arguments were, when the truth was not what people wanted, they were often more willing to believe their own conjectures.

So the people who are deceived are not actually stupid; it's just that lies are too easy for people to fall for.

To prove that something that doesn't exist doesn't exist is hard to find anything more difficult in the world. Wu Yu knew he couldn't do it, so he chose another solution.

"Friend, you're too greedy. Are you really planning to let so many of our brothers go home empty-handed?" the man said in an unfriendly tone, his words carrying a hint of threat.

"Heh, a snake's heart can never swallow an elephant. I am greedy, and I have the means to be greedy. Or do you want to test my abilities?" Wu Yu asked provocatively.

"Friend, don't be too arrogant. We brothers are all formidable. If we fall out, it won't benefit any of us." The man was still trying to negotiate with Wu Yu. He didn't know Wu Yu's strength, but since he dared to go up the mountain to steal treasure, he must have some skills. Unless absolutely necessary, no one would be willing to do something they weren't sure of.

If Wu Yuzhen could single-handedly defeat everyone present, then he only needed to say to this group, "Come at me, you trash."

Unfortunately, Wu Yu is currently just a normal first-tier superhuman. Let alone fighting a group, he would have a hard time even fighting one person. The reason he is so arrogant now is to make the scene meet a certain condition so that he can trigger the ability he just acquired. Therefore, Wu Yu still has to make use of the power of language.

“People die for wealth, birds die for food, we all understand this principle, but you are not related to each other. If a fight really breaks out later, it is not surprising that people will die. If you were the one who died, would you be willing to do something that benefits others?” Wu Yu asked everyone with a light laugh.

Wu Yu didn't boast about how strong he really was. Everyone present was shrewd; if Wu Yu were truly a Saint-level expert, they wouldn't be wasting their breath talking to him.

Wu Yu's meaning was also very clear: if you all come at him together, he definitely can't beat you, but you'll have to choose which ones to use as cannon fodder.

Upon hearing this, everyone present immediately calmed down. They all looked at the people around them warily, their eyes clearly showing a hint of vigilance.

"Everyone, don't fall for it. This is his scheme to sow discord. If we don't unite, we'll be playing right into his hands," the man quickly warned, noticing the tense atmosphere on his side.

"This isn't a divisive tactic; it's a calculated move, a strategy only the strong can employ." Wu Yu observed everyone's expressions and, before the man's words could take effect, arrogantly retorted.

"The solution is simple: if you take the initiative to attack me and become the first to stick your neck out, I believe that others will naturally follow suit. But the question is, do you dare?"

The man remained silent, not daring to answer. He would step forward and set the pace, firstly because he was indeed the strongest person there, and secondly to gain more say in the distribution of the property later.

He dared to gang up on them, but after being captured by the thugs, he was terrified and dared not risk his life again.

Silence is the best answer, and Wu Yu is extremely satisfied with this. The seed of fear has been planted, and it is only waiting for it to take root and sprout before Wu Yu can completely control the situation.

"Ha, boss, come quick! These guys haven't run away yet." Just as the situation was developing in Wu Yu's favor, an unexpected voice rang out.

Looking in the direction of the sound, Wu Yu saw Barry looking at him furtively from a distance, and behind him were Ma Nan and his gang.

Why are these guys back again? Wu Yu thought to himself, "This is bad."

But the number of people doesn't quite add up. Oh right, the group of sacrificial animals chained up aren't here. Could it be that they were abandoned?

Seeing their disheveled appearance, Wu Yu guessed that they must have encountered some trouble. Those mutated plants outside were not so easy to deal with, not to mention that it was uncertain whether the animals would mutate.
