"Jack, do you know why Layton is targeting me? I'm not ugly, am I?"
"He's not targeting you personally; he just can't stand all those who are all show and no substance."
"Oh! There are still people who like to meddle in other people's business these days? That's an eye-opener. Or have you suffered some kind of trauma?"
"When I first met Layton, he was a very generous person. He even helped me when I first became an adventurer. Later, he and one of his good friends took on a team mission, but his teammates were not strong enough to match the Bronze level, which led to the mission's failure. His good friend also died in that mission. That should be the reason for his change in personality."
"I see." That was all Wu Yu could say. There were simply too many tragedies in this world. Even in the past, when information spread extremely quickly, the number of events that could move him to tears was very small. After all, they were just outsiders, and Wu Yu would never put himself in their shoes to think about what strangers felt.
On the way back, the two tacitly avoided mentioning their previous agreement. With nothing else to do, Wu Yu could only chat with Jack about what had happened that day, otherwise the two of them would have really bored him to death.
When Wu Yu and his group returned to the manor, they saw a group of fully armed soldiers standing at the manor gate. They were all wearing identical silver armor and had knight's swords at their waists.
What's going on? Did Jack's family do something wrong? Wu Yu quickly ended his casual conversation and nervously followed Jack over.
The soldiers saw Jack, and the leader stepped forward, saluted, and then respectfully said, "Captain Kevin of the Guards, along with eleven subordinates, are here to await your orders, young master Jack."
Jack glanced at the crowd and said, "There are no missions yet. You may all step back. The servants have prepared resting places for you. Just wait there."
“Yes, sir.” Kevin replied, then turned and led the eleven soldiers into the manor.
"Who are these people?" Wu Yu asked after the others left.
“They are all my father’s private soldiers, which can be considered a privilege of the nobility, but I have been managing them all these years, so even though I haven’t inherited my father’s title, I can still command them now. I sent them here yesterday,” Jack explained.
Upon hearing this, Wu Yu was relieved. Then Jack led Wu Yu to Violet's room.
But on the way, they encountered the same guard captain again. He was still wearing that exquisite armor, but he had taken off his helmet, revealing short brown hair.
At this moment, Kevin was kneeling on one knee, holding a bouquet of bright red flowers in his hands, and said affectionately to the sky, "Your Highness Violet, you are as beautiful as ever. I wonder if you will accept the heart of a humble admirer today? If you are willing, please grant me a token, and I will ascend into the sky to present you with the most beautiful flowers of Green Town today."
Kevin spoke these words to the windowsill of Violet's room. Wu Yu looked over and could see a small head peeking out of the window, but he couldn't see her expression because of the distance.
This guy named Kevin is really quick on his feet. They just separated and he's already here to confess his love. But Jack, that siscon, ran into him. It looks like his plans for today are ruined.
Wu Yu turned his head to look and, sure enough, Jack's face had become extremely gloomy.
"Smooth-talking." After saying this with dissatisfaction, Jack walked quickly towards Kevin.
Kevin was also taken aback when he saw Jack, and subconsciously called out, "Young Master Jack?"
Jack didn't respond. He reached out and snatched the flower from Kevin's hand, looked at it, and said, "A blood rose, a specially cultivated rose variant with the same color as blood. Accepting it is like accepting the other person's heart, signifying loyalty and ardent love. It costs ten silver coins in the flower shop, which is indeed quite expensive."
"Young Master Jack is indeed very knowledgeable," Kevin said in a flattering tone.
"But unfortunately you sent it to the wrong person."
Jack said coldly, his fighting spirit trembling as petals drifted down. Then, Jack tossed the remaining root to the ground like trash.
"I will compensate you ten times the price of the goods, and you will receive it when you collect your salary at the end of this month."
Kevin stared in shock at the petals falling to the ground, then looked up and glared angrily at Jack.
Kevin slowly stood up from the ground, desperately suppressing his emotions, and said, "Young Master Jack, please don't trample on my feelings so easily."
Upon hearing this, Jack turned around and said, "Violet, I'm back. You can go and rest now."
Violet nodded obediently, then disappeared out the window.
Jack then said to Kevin again, "My sister didn't respond to you, so your feelings are now null and void."
"Jack, Violet has so many suitors, why are you targeting me?" Kevin stopped using the word "young master" and questioned loudly with his head down.
When Kevin stood up, he was almost two heads taller than Jack, and fully armed, he completely overshadowed Jack in terms of imposing presence.
But Jack remained calm and fearless, saying, "My sister is naive and inexperienced. You may succeed, but I don't think you can give her happiness, so I don't want her to be sad in the future."
"What makes you say that? In terms of family background, although I am not a nobleman, my father and I have always served your family. Who can compare to my loyalty to the Russell family? In terms of strength, I have already broken through to the fifth level this year, and I can be called a strongman in this world. In terms of appearance, who do you think is more handsome than me in Green Town besides you?" Kevin retorted.
