When Wu Yu returned to the house where he was temporarily staying in the Ultra Empire, he was no longer as content as before.
Only a dozen days had passed, but Wu Yu felt as if he had lived through another world.
Compared to when he left, Wu Yu felt he was a hundred times stronger. Most importantly, he had found something he had to do. He could accept living a muddled life, but having something he had to do with all his might seemed like a good thing.
For Wu Yu, who doesn't have any particular life goals, this kind of mandatory task is the most suitable.
There's no need to consciously think about why you should do this; the word "survival" is enough to answer most questions.
Moreover, Wu Yu did far too many meaningless things for the sake of momentary pleasure.
For example, playing games, playing games, and playing games.
In short, Wu Yu did not feel any resistance to the following actions from the bottom of his heart.
"Wu Yu, why did you come back early?" Violet asked in surprise as Wu Yu walked into the living room, having returned home before him.
"How did you know I came back early?" Wu Yu poured himself a glass of water to moisten his throat, then asked in return.
“When the emperor returns, he will be welcomed by thousands of people. The capital has not received any notification of the emperor’s return, so Wu Yu, you must have sneaked back.” Violet showed off her cleverness.
"Luckily you're not stupid, otherwise I really wouldn't feel comfortable leaving you alone at home," Wu Yu remarked, then continued, "Weren't you guys going for survival training? It's over so quickly?"
"Yes, I just got back the day before yesterday, and I got an excellent grade this time," Violet said happily. "But Wu Yu, you will lose a lot of credits for missing this time, which may affect whether you can get your graduation certificate. However, with your strength, Wu Yu, you don't need to care about a certificate."
Actually, I value it quite a bit. I heard that with a graduation certificate from the Royal Magic Academy, you can choose any job that pays one gold coin a month.
But Wu Yu had no choice but to put on a brave face and say, "That's true."
"Wu Yu, now that you're back, let's go out and celebrate tonight. By the way, there's a lecture on alchemy tomorrow, would you like to go with me?" Because of Wu Yu's interruption, Violet didn't continue to probe the reason for Wu Yu's early return, but instead extended another invitation.
"No need, I'm quite busy with my schedule. I need to go back to the academy's library to expand my magic slots by two, and I'll be setting off for the Elf Kingdom early tomorrow morning," Wu Yu said, shaking his head in refusal.
Although no one set a time limit for Wu Yu's mission, Wu Yu could not afford to relax at all. If he wanted to do something perfunctorily that required risking his life, then he would deserve to die.
"Is that so? Then I won't bother you any longer. I'll prepare dinner and wait for you to come back." Violet smiled somewhat reluctantly, then gave a considerate reply.
"Thank you." Wu Yu said sincerely. It was a good feeling that there was still someone in the world who cared about his life or death. It was just that he would never have encountered such a severe situation in the gentle world of the past.
"By the way, I won't be coming back after I leave tomorrow morning." Wu Yu finally said this.
Regardless of whether Wu Yu survives this operation, he will never be able to return to Violet's side. He has been targeted. Although he doesn't know why Phillis didn't use Violet to threaten him, the closer he gets to Violet, the greater the chance that she will be in danger.
Farewell, sometimes, comes so suddenly.
Violet paused for a moment, then cautiously asked, "Are you kidding me?"
"I wouldn't joke about something like this," Wu Yu said, shaking his head.
"Then why did you tell me this? If you had just kept quiet, I could have waited for you here forever. Are you going to abandon me too?" Violet was a little agitated, but more than that, she was angry. She felt as if she had been betrayed.
“Because I’m selfish,” Wu Yu replied calmly. “I seem to care more about my own feelings than your safety, so now it’s my turn to ask you: do you want to leave with me?”
"Isn't that dangerous?" Violet smiled upon hearing this dangerous suggestion.
"I've heard from others that it's a near-death experience, but I will try my best to protect you." Wu Yu's promise sounded so weak and powerless, but Wu Yu never intended to move her in the first place. He just suddenly wanted to ask. He would accept whatever choice Violet made.
“Then I’ll go with you.” Violet agreed without much hesitation, as if she hadn’t heard Wu Yu’s warning to her.
"Okay." Since it was Wu Yu who extended the invitation, he couldn't possibly offer any more polite words to dissuade him. He was truly grateful to Violet for allowing him to live without just existing.
"Go pack your things, and return the key to Eugene. We'll set off as soon as the teleportation array is operational tomorrow morning," Wu Yu instructed.
“Okay.” Violet nodded obediently, then suddenly asked Wu Yu before he left, “Wu Yu, do you like this world?”
"I don't hate it." Wu Yu's answer was his truest thought; he genuinely just didn't hate it. His attempt to uncover the truth about the apocalypse was merely a means to better survive.
"I really like it." Violet answered her own question. "I love everything about it. Is Wu Yu also going to protect this world this time?"
