The fat guy and his group didn't clear the area after they arrived, so Violet remained standing on the ring. Her words at this moment were completely unexpected by everyone.
Although they may not yet know the dangers of society, they can still do the most basic calculations. If they remain silent, the chance of death is only one in a thousand. If it is a matter of sacrificing the individual for the greater good, then some passionate young people or conscientious teachers may well stand up.
But if you trade your own life for the life of a stranger, wouldn't your own life be more valuable? Who would do such a losing proposition?
Even the fat man was just asking casually; he didn't think anyone would actually come out to their death.
Looking at the frail little girl in front of him, he was quite surprised, but he didn't intend to change the rules. The fat man said with a gloating look, "Very good, the first volunteer has appeared. Let's see who the next volunteer will be."
The whispers that had been caused by Philliss's astonishing act ceased again; it would be difficult to find another oddball like Violet among thousands of people.
In the end, the fat man had to force the second contestant to be chosen.
"Hey kid, don't turn around, it's you, come up here." The fat man casually pointed and picked a slightly tall boy from the crowd.
"Why did you choose me?" The boy who was chosen looked miserable.
"Because you're tall, you stand out a bit." Although the boy was just complaining casually, the fat guy gave a serious answer.
The crowd made way for the boy, and although they knew he was going to his death, no one dared to stop him.
Thinking of the fat man's ruthless methods, the boy swallowed hard and walked toward the ring as if he were going to his death.
"Men fighting women, that kind of hand-to-hand combat is the most exciting." The fat man looked like he was watching a good show, and led the others off the stage, making enough space for Violet and the others.
The two stood on the arena, but neither made a move for a long time.
Finally, the fat man grew impatient and took out an hourglass from his storage ring, urging, "Hurry up and start fighting! Stop dawdling. If you haven't killed your opponents by the time the sand in the hourglass runs out, then you'll all die together."
After saying that, the fat man casually tossed the hourglass, which tumbled through the air once before landing steadily on the ground. As the first grain of sand sank to the bottom, the countdown to death finally began.
"I'm sorry," the boy said guiltily, his head bowed. Then, as if he had made a decision, he gritted his teeth and rushed towards Violet.
Since everyone here is both a magician and a nobleman, how could they possibly engage in such a vulgar act as hand-to-hand combat? It's safe to say that 90% of the people here have never rolled up their sleeves to fight anyone, and the boys are no exception. So, he could only swing his fists haphazardly.
Men are naturally stronger than women physically. Even without experience, a man doesn't think he will lose, which is why he apologizes to the girl who might die at his hands beforehand.
Violet knew she couldn't beat a man, so she had no intention of fighting him at all. Even though he seemed rather unintelligent and aggressive, she decisively turned and ran.
"Stop right there!" When the boy first saw Violet running away in a panic, he even secretly thought that he would finally be spared from dying. But as he chased after her, he realized something was wrong. He couldn't catch up with the girl in front of him who looked a little frail.
Although Violet has never exercised, the "Health" potion made from various precious medicinal herbs is very powerful, giving her a slight advantage in physical fitness compared to weak mages.
"Damn it, phew, you, you stop right there!" The boy was getting more and more tired as he ran, and eventually he was even panting heavily.
Knowing he couldn't catch up, the boy half-squatted down, wanting to recover his strength first.
As soon as the boy stopped, Violet stopped as well. Apart from being a little short of breath, she was otherwise unharmed.
"One minute has passed." As if the scene wasn't intense enough, the fat man's voice rang out at this moment.
Upon hearing this, the boy became even more agitated. His eyes turned bloodshot, and he looked at Violet as if she were his father's killer, raving, "What exactly do you want to do? Do you think running away will work? In three more minutes, we'll all be dead."
“I don’t want to kill anyone,” Violet said calmly.
"Hahaha, are you kidding me? If you don't want to kill anyone, why did you come up on stage?" The boy retorted angrily. "You don't want to be the bad guy, huh? Fine, I beg you, let me kill you!"
Violet frowned, lost in thought.
A golden opportunity! In this life-or-death moment, the boy will stop at nothing. Taking advantage of Violet's distraction, the boy suddenly launched a sneak attack.
Violet was caught off guard and hit on the left shoulder by the boy.
"Ugh." Violet groaned, her body swaying slightly. She was lucky not to be knocked down. Then, not daring to stay in the same spot any longer, she continued to try to escape.
But perhaps because of her injury, she was a little slower than before, just at a pace that the boy could barely keep up with.
The boy saw hope, and even though he was exhausted, he still chased after it relentlessly.
Almost there, almost there!
The boy's fingertips were almost touching Violet's back, but Violet suddenly stopped, turned around, and punched the boy in the stomach.
"Ugh." The boy clutched his stomach and knelt on the ground, almost vomiting bile. With just one punch, Violet had rendered him unable to move.
