Chapter Thirteen: I Will Grant You Death

"He is a true champion of justice," the Sword Saint said, offering his praise without reservation.

Then the Sword Saint looked at Violet solemnly and asked, "Your brother seems to have entrusted you to Wu Yu. Do you know who he is? Or has Jack told you his identity?"

“I don’t know, he’s just my brother’s new friend.” Violet shook her head, tilted her head and thought for a moment before continuing, “But Wu Yu is really amazing. My brother asked me to follow him, saying that Wu Yu can protect me in any situation.”

"Is this Jack's understanding? Although Jack is a genius, he has not yet stepped into the realm of a saint. His vision is still too narrow." The Sword Saint murmured softly.

"Do you think Jack's death might be related to him?" The Sword Saint's eyes flashed with a dangerous killing intent as he voiced this thought.

“Impossible. Wu Yu is definitely not a bad person. My brother wouldn’t misjudge someone. Besides, Wu Yu has been very good to me,” Violet retorted, her gaze towards the Sword Saint now carrying a hint of hostility.

"Never try to guess what's in someone's heart." The Sword Saint seemed to have thought of something and sighed with deep feeling. Then he suggested, "Do you need me to protect you? I also have the power to protect you, and to you, I am not as mysterious as Wu Yu."

"No, I want to be with Wu Yu." Violet shrank back, seemingly afraid that the Sword Saint would forcibly take her away.

"Alright, since that's the case, I won't disturb Miss Violet's rest any longer," the Sword Saint said with a wry smile, no longer insisting.

The Sword Saint stood up, took out a blue magic crystal, and placed it on the table without waiting for Violet's acceptance, explaining...

“I’m so sorry I couldn’t help when your brother died. You are his only family, and I must ensure your safety. This magic crystal has my mark on it. No matter where you are, activate it and I will come immediately.”

After saying that, without waiting for Violet's reply, the Sword Saint walked towards the door.

"Thank you," Violet said softly, looking at the crystal.

The Sword Saint closed the door and truly departed.

Violet picked up the magic crystal, gently stroking it, feeling the cool texture on her fingertips, but a warm feeling of kindness welled up in her heart.

Emotions began to stir deep within those calm, still eyes, the ripples growing larger and larger. In this deserted place, at this deserted time, Violet curled up in her chair, hugging her knees.

This is the most authentic side of Violet that no one else has ever seen, like a flower bud swaying in the cold wind, lonely and helpless.

Her expression was so sorrowful, but her voice was as cold as metal, as ruthless as a machine.

"Marlow Campbell, whichever organization you chose, you should have been the one to survive, but you actually refused our invitation. You don't even know the truth of the world, yet you try to save the world by yourself. This is arrogance, and the price you will have to pay will be your life, because neither side will tolerate the existence of a troublemaker. Your strength is not enough to make us wary of Wu Yu."

Violet gripped the hard object in her hand. She raised her head, and the girlish fragility in her eyes had vanished, replaced by a depth like a black hole. Her gaze was fixed on the direction where the Sword Saint had just left. The ordinary door could no longer be an obstacle to her. She seemed to see the Sword Saint who had just left, and the future that extended from him.

“Marlowe, my friend, forgive me for not helping you, for you refused the chance to live. But at least I can grant you a grand death, meaningless but enough so that you will have no regrets.”

······

"Ee-ya-"

Wu Yu stretched out a big yawn before finally opening his eyes with difficulty.

The first thing I saw was Violet dozing off like a chick pecking at rice. She looked exactly like me when I wanted to sleep but didn't dare to during Chinese class. It was really funny.

Suddenly seized by a mischievous impulse, Wu Yu quietly sat up in bed and raised his wicked left hand towards Violet, who was sitting by the bedside.

With a quick movement, taking care not to hurt Violet, Wu Yu placed his hand on Violet's shoulder.

Wu Yu saw Violet tremble violently like a frightened bird, then jump up from the bed and look around in panic.

"Ha, ha, ha." Wu Yu laughed and rolled around on the bed, having successfully pulled off a prank.

Even he himself didn't expect that an ordinary prank would make him so happy.

Hearing Wu Yu's unrestrained laughter, Violet realized what was happening. She turned around, glared at Wu Yu angrily, and said, "You scoundrel Wu Yu, how could you do something so childish?"

"Because Violet, the way you dozed off was just too cute to be fair! Anyone who saw you would want to tease you. Your reaction, like a kitten with its fur standing on end, was also very funny. It would be great if there was some kind of device that could record that scene," Wu Yu said with a mischievous grin.

"Hmph, don't think I'll forgive you just because you say I'm cute. Just wait, Wu Yu, I'll definitely get my revenge this time." Violet's cheeks flushed slightly, but she quickly cleared her throat, raised her little fist, and threatened.

"You're welcome anytime. If it's Violet, I'd probably be happy even if I got hit by her," Wu Yu said with a smug grin.
