Chapter Seven Adventurers

Next, Jack led Wu Yu to a place that resembled an administrative hall.

Looking at the imposing gate, Wu Yu estimated that it was probably the most magnificent building in this ordinary small town.

Glancing at the sign that read "Adventurers' Guild" in large characters, Wu Yu suddenly felt a strange sense of ritual.

Thinking about the protagonists in novels who transmigrate to worlds of swords and magic, it seems like I'd be doing a disservice to my transmigrator identity if I didn't experience the life of an adventurer.

Is it finally here? My first job ever.

"Hey kid, get out of the way."

Just as Wu Yu was still immersed in his own world, a loud voice suddenly rang in his ears, startling him so much that he trembled all over.

Wu Yu glared at the guy who had deliberately tried to scare him, ready to show him what the art of language was all about.

However, just as Wu Yu saw the other party's nearly two-meter-tall behemoth and the giant beast's head he was carrying...

Wu Yu immediately reflected on his actions. Blocking the only entrance was indeed uncivilized, and he couldn't possibly curse at a passerby who kindly reminded him. Damn it, he almost forgot about the code of conduct for teenagers again.

Wu Yu immediately stepped aside, making way for the burly man.

The burly man gave Wu Yu a provocative look, but didn't say anything more and walked straight into the hall.

"I'm sorry, that guy has a bit of a temper, but he didn't mean any harm." At this moment, the priestess who was following behind the burly man and carrying a tin staff quickly came forward to bow and apologize.

Wu Yu was not capable of arguing with the strong man, so he was happy to see someone come and give him a way out.

"It's alright, I'm not a narrow-minded person."

The priestess nodded gratefully and ran after the burly man.

Jack came over and, without saying much, led Wu Yu into the Adventurers' Guild.

"Oh, young master Jack, what brings you to take on missions for fun?"

Jack was indeed quite popular in the town. As soon as he entered, people greeted him, and their tone was different from the slightly awe-inspiring one of the townspeople. It felt more like they were having a friendly conversation.

Jack nodded slightly in acknowledgment, and then went to the front desk.

The signboard girl was a beautiful woman with a black bow tie on her white work uniform. Her eyes lit up when she saw Jack, and she said enthusiastically...

"Young Master Jack, are you here to receive a mission? Whether it's the most challenging monster hunting or the most cost-effective herb collecting, I can immediately find the most suitable mission for you."

Another looks-obsessed guy, Jack. With such a handsome face, you'll probably never find true love in your life.

Seeing the boss lady's fangirl-like behavior, Wu Yu couldn't help but make malicious speculations in his mind.

"Thank you, but I'm here to post a commission. It's a silver-level mission, the task is to investigate Black Cloud Stronghold, the requirement is a four-person bronze-level team, and the reward is two gold coins," Jack rattled off a long string of information.

The mascot's professionalism is really impressive. She was just swooning over Jack a moment ago, but as soon as Jack started issuing tasks, her eyes sharpened immediately, and she quickly picked up her pen and completed the recording.

"Young Master Jack is still so stingy with his rewards. Can't he let those poor adventurers earn a little more money?" the signboard girl complained to Jack, holding up the quest list she had just completed.

"I just don't want those overconfident people to lose their lives because of greed. Besides, it would be a real headache for me if they didn't get any information at all," Jack said calmly, then took the mission sheet and walked towards the mission board.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, Wu Yu approached the signboard girl and excitedly asked, "Miss, how can I become an adventurer?"

When speaking to others, the signboard girl's tone became noticeably calmer. She took out a form and handed it to Wu Yu, saying in a very formulaic manner...

"Just fill in your basic information on the form, and then pay a processing fee of one silver coin."

Wu Yu took the form, but after only a couple of glances, he was stumped and asked a little embarrassedly.

"In terms of profession, if I have neither magic nor battle aura, what should I fill in?"

"You're not a superhuman." The mascot stared at Wu Yu as if he were an alien. She had never encountered anything so bizarre in her career. For a non-superhuman to venture into this world was practically suicide. But she remembered that the guild had made a special note about this. After recalling for a moment, she repeated it.

"If someone is a non-supernatural individual with special abilities, the guild can assess their abilities before deciding whether to award them an adventurer's medal. So, sir, what special talents do you possess?"

Wu Yu recalled his twenty years of uninteresting life, and it seemed that only his math and science grades were somewhat presentable. However, test-taking skills were clearly useless in this other world, so he could only ask uncertainly...

"Does unparalleled swordsmanship count?"

"What did you say?" The signboard girl doubted that she had misheard, so she asked again to confirm.

"I said my swordsmanship is unparalleled," Wu Yu repeated at her request.

"Hahaha, a greenhorn like you really likes to talk big. Unparalleled in the world? Even the Sword Saint of the Empire wouldn't dare to describe himself like that. What are you, kid, to dare to talk such big words?" Wu Yu had just finished speaking when a mocking voice came from behind him.
