At the foot of Black Cloud Mountain, with the threat of bandits gone, this treacherous mountain path no longer terrifies travelers.
The group passing by now is Benson and his men. Even at the height of Black Cloud Stronghold's fame, Benson was never afraid of these petty thieves.
However, Benson was in a rather sorry state. After Wu Yu cut off one of his arms and one of his legs, he could no longer ride a horse and had to use a rented carriage to transport his mutilated body.
Moreover, he only had a handful of men with him, and all the experts who came to Green Town with him were killed by Jack.
This time, Benson not only seized the title of viscount, but also lost his own title, which can be described as losing both his wife and his army.
Benson, sitting in the carriage, looked resentful, but he was not discouraged at all. Even though he had been defeated so thoroughly, he did not think he had no chance.
With the Dragon Merchant Guild at his back, Benson could quickly replenish the money and manpower he had lost. Most importantly, he also had a real trump card.
Benson took out a card that he had kept for a long time from his storage ring. The back of the card was covered with dark gold patterns, while the front showed a man in a black suit wearing a crying face mask. For some reason, every time Benson looked at that crying face mask, he always felt that he was being mocked by the man behind the mask.
This card is made of a special material that cannot be destroyed by conventional means. Since obtaining this card, Benson has only activated it once by accident, but after that, he has put it away and never used it again.
However, this time Benson was truly pushed to the limit, and he could no longer care about anything else, so he directly used his ultimate trump card.
Benson put his left index finger in his mouth, bit it hard, and then dripped the squeezed blood onto the card. The card quickly absorbed the blood without leaving any trace.
The man in the card, after receiving blood, seemed to gain life. He lightly touched the card, causing ripples to spread throughout the carriage's interior. Benson blinked once more and found himself in a gray space.
Looking around, there was nothing but a deathly gray expanse.
However, having had experience before, Benson wasn't too flustered. After waiting for a while, another living being finally appeared in this gray space. It was the man with the crying face mask printed on the card. If Violet were here, she might be able to call out his real name—Lawson.
Upon seeing Benson, Lawson greeted him warmly, as if meeting an old friend. "Welcome back to my demiplane, Mr. Benson. Unfortunately, I still cannot create anything here. The laws of creation truly are the domain of the gods. I'm sorry to have to make you stand again—oh, no, I should call it levitation."
Looking at this disorienting space and hearing those unfamiliar and incomprehensible terms, even though the man in front of him was as kind as before, Benson's fear was even greater than last time.
But Benson still bravely made his request: "You are called the Apocalypse Society, right? I agree to your terms. I will offer half of my soul and join you. But I hope that after I join, you can help me solve a little problem."
Even when faced with an entity he couldn't understand, Benson's businessman nature still made him want to negotiate with it.
"Join us?" Lawson asked in a tone of surprise, then countered with a dismissive yet polite tone, "Mr. Benson, do you think you are qualified to join the Apocalypse Society?"
"But last time you clearly said I could join you after giving up half of my soul!" Benson said anxiously.
“Last time? Mr. Benson, do you think your mortal soul means anything to me? I’m not one of those lowly demons in the Abyss of Gods,” Lawson continued to retort.
"Then why did you say those things last time?" Benson asked, both surprised and angry.
"Of course it's to lie to you!"
Lawson responded with a helpless tone, and then continued as if admitting defeat, "As expected, Violet is unbeatable when it comes to understanding human nature."
"Violet? You actually know her!" Upon hearing this familiar name, Benson felt like he was going crazy.
“Yes, we’re old friends. Oh, no, using Violet’s definition of interpersonal relationships, we can only be called old acquaintances.” After his secrets were exposed, Lawson was no longer as polite as before, and he continued to reveal secrets without restraint.
“Violet said that when humans have an invincible trump card, their ambition will inevitably expand uncontrollably. For you, the title of viscount is your greatest desire right now. With us as insurance, you must feel that you won’t lose, right? But it’s a pity. All we need is for you to fight for the title. As for the result, we don’t care about anything.”
"What? You're saying my actions were influenced by you? How is that possible? If my hand hadn't been injured that day, I wouldn't have entered that space at all." Benson couldn't believe he'd been tricked.
"Who told you that the activation condition for the card is blood?" Lawson retorted, then said to Benson, who looked incredulous, "The important thing is not the activation condition, but when we want you to enter this space. If I want, even breathing can be an activation condition, oh my."
"Why are you doing this? Is it fun to play with a nobody like me?" Benson was furious.
