After a thoroughly enjoyable time, the two had a wonderful night's sleep.
It wasn't until it got dark, and I was thirsty and hungry, that I woke up feeling sore but incredibly clear-headed.
Chu Yuan, still half asleep, suddenly remembered something important. "Shen Xizhou, where's your briefcase? Did you leave it in the Osmanthus Garden and forget to retrieve it?"
If it was her bag that was lost, the loss would be at most the bag, lipstick, and tissues.
But Shenxizhou is clearly different. The valuables are secondary; what if there are top-secret documents inside? That would be disastrous.
Amidst the deep sea blue bedding, Shen Xizhou slept soundly, but his hand never left Chu Yuan's waist, a slight smile playing on his lips as he held her close without loosening his grip.
Upon hearing this, instead of becoming nervous or rushing to open her eyes, she pulled Chu Yuan close and smelled her hair.
"You smell so good," he whispered.
Chu Yuan was speechless, and kicked him with her little foot under the covers, "Stop fooling around, we're talking about the briefcase."
Shen Xizhou shifted his head and buried his face in Chu Yuan's soft chest without any hesitation. He then said in a muffled voice, "Don't worry about it. I already sent a message to Xiao Wu to pick it up. It's his fault for not taking the team's honor into account and protecting his own people while I was away."
This "one of our own" is none other than Chu Yuan!
"You mean Assistant Wu?" Chu Yuan heard this, but she had to defend her brother Wu. "Actually, it's not his fault. He has done his best. But my matter was decided by Vice Ting Zhu and the higher-ups. Assistant Wu is just a nobody. It's no wonder he can't stand up to them."
Shen Xizhou neither confirmed nor denied this statement, saying, "He can at least try to contact me. Even if it's a closed-off approach, there's always a way to get through."
He didn't blame Xiao Wu for not standing up for Chu Yuan. Anyone in that situation would have chosen to protect themselves.
However, because of his inaction, he missed the best opportunity to protect Chu Yuan, which is the main reason why Shen Xizhou was angry.
The person has already been reassigned, and bringing them back won't be so easy.
Director Xu of the archives department knew this person; he was stubborn, meticulous, and difficult to deal with.
However, since he is determined to protect the little girl no matter what, let him worry about this in private. There's no need to bring it up and burden the little girl.
All I need to do is let my own little pet cat be happy and carefree every day.
Once Chu Yuan confirmed that Shen Xizhou's briefcase was intact and there was no risk of losing his job, she stopped paying attention to the matter.
After all, if even the emperor isn't in a hurry, why should a mere eunuch be anxious?
The next morning, the two went to work as usual.
Yesterday, Shen Xizhou was returning from a business trip and it was only natural for him to take a break. No one would say he skipped work.
As for Chu Yuan, she also sent a text message to Abbess Miejue to ask for leave.
As for whether she agrees to approve it, what a joke, who cares!
So when Chu Yuan appeared in the office as usual in the morning, Director Xu and Zhou Xia said sarcastically, "Oh, so you finally remembered to come to work? Our provincial institute has become like a vegetable market. Just a clerk can come and go as she pleases. Is there no order left?"
Zhou Xia immediately launched an attack on Chu Yuan.
As a leader, Director Xu wouldn't stoop to such a low level.
She was adept at using Zhou Xia as her mouth double.
There were several other clerks in the archives department, but they were all tamed by her and Zhou Xia. Every day, besides working diligently, they would flatter and fawn over the two of them.
Don't be fooled by the low monthly salary of a court clerk. The benefits are good: a 9-to-5 workday with weekends off, five social insurances and one housing fund, a good working environment, and a respectable workplace. Once you get in, many people won't choose to leave.
Especially girls.
It doesn't matter if you don't have much money, it'll make it easier to find a partner!
Many elders believe that it's better to marry well than to earn a lot of money, so they discourage their daughters from going out into the world.
Indeed, some have risen to prominence.
There are a few things to say about the intern and the dean's secretary!
Therefore, if the affair between Chu Yuan and Shen Xizhou were to be exposed, it would become, just like this matter, a topic of gossip and speculation for everyone.
"Director Xu, I accidentally got caught in the rain yesterday and caught a cold. I went home to take medicine and sent you a message to ask for leave." Chu Yuan didn't cause trouble, but she wasn't afraid of trouble either.
She spilled tea and wet the case file, and was punished for it, which is fine.
But it would be so inhumane not to let someone take sick leave!
Under Chu Yuan's cold gaze, Director Xu felt inexplicably guilty.
It was all Zhu Liwen's instruction to discipline her properly.
Zhou Xia was more surprised than anything else. This little girl had come without saying a word, looking docile and easy to bully. Why did she suddenly seem to have grown thorns today?
Little did she know that Chu Yuan was actually a rose with thorns.
I was just feeling down the other day and didn't want to pay them any attention.
Now that she and Shen Xizhou have finally gotten together, she's feeling revitalized and has a bit of an itch to get her hands on them, so she'll let them experience what it's like to tear apart the most outrageous people!
Director Xu sneered, "Since when can you just send a message to ask for leave? I don't know about your rules elsewhere, but in our archives department, you have to fill out a leave application form, and I have to approve and sign it before you can take leave!"
Chu Yuan smiled slightly, "Director Xu, you mean that since I have a high fever and my whole body aches, and you can't find me, I still have to follow the rules, fill out a form, and wait for you to come back and sign it before I can leave?"
At least among the departments that Chu Yuan knew, none were this strict.
Even regular police officers don't need to do this, let alone court clerks.
The reason why people can still work even with low wages is because government agencies are managed more humanely, unlike private business owners who only want to exploit their employees.
Director Xu was speechless at Chu Yuan's question. Indeed, being sick was a special circumstance.
