Chapter 19 Qingyan Pavilion and the Pharmacy

To ease the awkward atmosphere, Wang Simeng quickly changed the subject: "Let's go check out the supermarket on the second floor." With that, she led the two upstairs.

The second floor of the mall houses a large supermarket. All the lights inside are on, and there's a service counter in the left corner. Directly in front, the words "Supermarket Entrance" are written in large characters, with two rows of metal shopping carts on either side of the entrance. The "Supermarket Exit" is written on the right.

People came and went on the entire second floor.

The young men and women working at the supermarket cashiers were incredibly excited today, their first day using the cash register equipment.

Some of the customers had visited the Wonder Shop before and therefore knew how to pay.

Some customers don't know how to pay, so the cashier smiles and tells them how to pay.

"Please place your items on the counter, sir, and I will scan them one by one." The cashier smiled and gestured for the customer to place the items in the designated spot.

The customer placed the item on the machine as instructed by the cashier. The cashier then swiped the item across the machine, glanced at the amount on the display screen, and promptly told the customer how much to pay.

Obviously, some people from other places cannot accept this.

Most locals already know about it, since they've seen it in the Wonder Shop and at the cinema before.

When people from out of town discovered this, some customers, though they didn't say anything, would stand aside after paying their bills and check the price against their receipts to see if there had been any errors in the calculation.

However, some guests are different.

A middle-aged man in his forties said to a young cashier, "You didn't use an abacus to calculate the prices of these items. There are so many things sold in this supermarket, how come you remember the price of every single one?"

How do you know that these total only amount to five hundred coins?

"These items just swipe past you, and you can calculate it in a split second? You don't seem like someone who can do that." The middle-aged man asked the cashier girl several times in a row.

"Please rest assured, customer, our machine records the prices of all the products in the supermarket. You only need to swipe the product over the machine to get the price. It will never be wrong."

"If you don't believe me, you can take the receipt to someone to check. This receipt shows what you bought, the price, the quantity, and the time you bought it," the young woman quickly explained.
