Chapter 2 Qi Cang Kingdom

"Then where can we get out of the village and into the town?" Wang Simeng continued to ask with a smile.

The children were young and had never left the village, so they had no idea about these things and shook their heads.

Wang Simeng sighed, knowing she still had to go into the village to ask an adult for directions.

After walking down from the mountaintop, Wang Simeng roughly estimated that she had walked tens of thousands of steps. For a homebody who doesn't like exercise, that's quite a distance.

The new shoes only have a temperature-regulating effect. Although the shoes are comfortable, I still get tired.

After descending the mountain, Wang Simeng didn't think to take out her electric scooter and drove it for a while in a deserted area.

It's too late to think about it now. It wouldn't be good if someone saw it out of nowhere. Wang Simeng could only think that she would find an opportunity to take it out when she left.

Wang Simeng followed the children into the village. A house near the village entrance had its door open; she went up and knocked.

Knock! Knock! Knock! "Excuse me, is anyone home?"

A woman in her fifties, also dressed in patched clothes, came out of the house. She walked up to Wang Simeng and asked suspiciously, "Who...are you looking for?"

"Hello, ma'am. My master sent me down the mountain for training. I've gotten lost around here. Could you tell me which direction I should go to get into the city?" Wang Simeng asked with a smile.

The old woman could tell from Wang Simeng's clothes and appearance that Wang Simeng was no ordinary person, so she believed what Wang Simeng said.

“Girl, our village is called Zhangjia Village, and the nearest town is called Qingshan Town…” Aunt Zhang told Wang Simeng the route to the town in detail.

Wang Simeng thanked the old woman, took out a bag of Xu Fuji candies from her bag (actually from her spatial storage), gave it to her, and then left.

Just as I stepped out of the village, the system notification sounded.

"Ding, system task: Open a shop in town within seven days. Rewards for successful completion: Advanced Volume 1 of the 'Heart Refining Technique' and a protective shield." After issuing the task, Xiao Liu went to eat sunflower seeds and watch TV.

Wang Simeng didn't care what Xiao Liu was doing anymore. She was very happy to hear the mission notification.

"Work's here!"

Following the directions given by the old woman, Wang Simeng walked for two hours. Finally, she arrived at the entrance to the town.

Wang Simeng joined the crowd and walked into Qingshan Town.

Qingshan Town is a town on the border between the states of Qi and Chu. Due to the friendly relations between the two states for decades, and the unrestricted trade between them, Qingshan Town has become increasingly prosperous.

Teahouses, taverns, pawnshops, and workshops lined both sides of the street. In the open spaces along the street, there were also many small vendors with large umbrellas spread out.

The streets extend in all four directions—east, west, north, and south—all the way to the quieter suburbs outside the city.

The streets were bustling with people: some carrying loads on their shoulders, some driving oxcarts to deliver goods, and some leading donkeys to pull carts.

Centered around the towering city gate, the buildings on both sides are lined up one after another, including teahouses, taverns, inns, butcher shops, pawnshops, and so on.

Wang Simeng was intrigued and picked out three large, retro-style vanity mirrors with different patterns from the space.

I found a pawnshop and pawned the item without any restrictions. It cost a total of 620 taels of silver. The mirror was beautiful and reflected images so clearly that the shop owner bought it for a high price.

Wang Simeng didn't care whether she pawned too much or too little; she felt the price was reasonable and acceptable. There were plenty of mirrors available online. Therefore, as long as she didn't try to rip herself off and was honest, most prices were fine.

Wang Simeng was also hungry after walking for so long. She went into the biggest restaurant in town—Zui Xian Lou.

"What would you like to eat, sir?" The waiter approached with a smile.

"A few of our signature dishes and a bowl of rice, please," Wang Simeng said, taking five taels of silver from her small cloth bag and handing it to the waiter. Then she found a corner seat by the window and sat down.

"Alright, please wait a moment, sir, your food will be here soon." The waiter ran off happily.

In a short while, three dishes, a soup, and a bowl of rice were served. All three dishes tasted quite good, though a bit bland. Wang Simeng still preferred spicy and sweet foods.

If she had the chance in the future, she could open several more shops. A milk tea shop, a chain restaurant, selling the kinds of food she liked, saving her the trouble of cooking. Of course, she'd also start a delivery service. Wang Simeng thought to herself happily.

After dinner, Wang Simeng found a reliable broker and bought a two-story shop of 100 square meters with a courtyard at the back. The shop was not on the main street, but at a corner behind the main street.

This shop used to sell cloth, but the owner fell seriously ill and needed to take his father to the capital to find a renowned doctor. The owner's son was forced to sell the shop cheaply.

Upon learning the reason, Wang Simeng did not try to negotiate the price and readily paid five hundred taels.

He gave the broker five taels of silver and asked him to help him change the house deed at the government office. He touched the more than one hundred and ten taels of silver he still had in his bag and thought to himself that money really doesn't last long.

He then began to inspect the shop, thinking about how to decorate it, what to name it, and so on.
