Chapter 26 Poisoning at Night Part 2

After hearing from others about the grand opening of the Wonderful Mall and the magical Book House there, Jeremy Lin decided to go to the Book House early the next day with his friend, and then browse the mall.

To avoid being late the next day, Jeremy Lin went to bed early. Not long after he fell asleep, a fragrant aroma wafted in through the half-open window.

Jeremy Lin smacked his lips, turned over, and went back to sleep, but the aroma was too strong. After lying there for a while, he finally couldn't resist and sat up to make himself something to eat.

"Who's so immoral, posting this food porn late at night? It's making my mouth water!" she said, while cooking the noodles in front of her.

Next door at the Wang family's house, a slightly chubby little boy of about four or five years old was sleeping soundly. Suddenly, he smelled a rich aroma and couldn't help but drool.

After a while, the little boy opened his eyes and began sniffing around in the air, walking barefoot out of the courtyard as he did so. Seeing this, the maidservant quickly called out, "Young Master Jin, where are you going? Young Master Jin, put your shoes on first!" She then grabbed the shoes and chased after the little boy.

The little boy stopped when he heard the maid's voice. The maid helped him put on his shoes.

The little boy said, "Can you smell this? It smells so good, I want to eat it." Then he ran into his parents' yard.

The maid, unsure of what to do, hurriedly followed.

The little boy knocked on his parents' bedroom door. "Mom, Mom, are you asleep?"

"I know Mommy isn't asleep yet—the light's still on. May I come in?" the little boy said in a soft, sweet voice.

A moment later, the door opened from the inside.

"Jin'er, why are you still awake so late? You're being naughty again," a woman in her mid-twenties said as she picked up the boy and carried him into the house.

"Mommy, can you smell it? I wonder what delicious food they're making outside? It smells so good!! I want to eat it too." The little boy said, sitting on the bed, his eyes full of longing.

The woman smiled and said, "Jin'er, you little glutton! You can't be like this. Not only are you playful, but you're also greedy for food. You'll become lazy when you grow up."

The little boy mumbled, "Mom, I'm not greedy, but this tastes so incredibly delicious."

"I guess the neighbors are cooking, and I don't know how to cook! How about this... I'll ask the kitchen to make you something you like?" the woman coaxed.

"No, I want to eat that." The little boy's eyes were filled with tears. "I really want to eat it~ My mouth is watering~" The woman didn't say anything.

"It smells so good I can't sleep, I really want to eat it." As he spoke, the little boy's tears were about to fall.

The woman sighed, "Oh dear, shall I have someone go ask the neighbors what they're cooking?"

"Okay~ I want to go too~ I want to see what kind of food they make~" the little boy said, tugging at the woman's sleeve.

The woman hesitated for a long time, but finally couldn't resist the little boy's cuteness and agreed to go together.

The woman, holding the little boy's hand, and accompanied by a maid carrying a lantern, walked out of her house.

"Miss, a woman has come with a child and a maid. They say they're from the Wang family next door," a servant said as he entered the room.

"Huh? The neighbors? Did they say they needed something?"

Wang Simeng and the other two stopped eating.

"They said they could smell the food from next door. They didn't want to come and bother them, but their child was crying because he was so hungry, so..."

"Huh? The kid next door is drooling? This..." Wang Simeng was speechless and wanted to laugh at the same time.

"Then let them come over quickly."

The servant went out and called out a few times. Soon the woman came over with the little boy.

The woman said to Wang Simeng, "I hope you will forgive my rambling at your residence so late at night."

"You're too kind, Madam. It's just that I was eating something so delicious so late at night that it made your child crave it!" Wang Simeng replied with a smile.

The little boy next to me had chubby cheeks and round, bright eyes. He looked very cute and kept staring at the things on the table with longing in his eyes, swallowing his saliva repeatedly.

Wang Simeng smiled when she saw this, "Is this your little darling?"

"Yes, I'm my little darling. Hello, sister, my name is Jin'er." The little boy cupped his hands in greeting to Wang Simeng. He looked incredibly cute.

"Oh, hello! Little Jin'er."

"Hello! I could smell the delicious aroma from inside the house. What are you making, sister?" Jin'er asked, licking her lips. "Sister, could you sell me some?"

Wang Simeng was taken aback; she had assumed the little boy would ask her for food directly. Instead, he wanted to buy it. This showed that the boy's family had raised him very well.

Wang Simeng shook her head.

When the little boy saw Wang Simeng shake her head, the light in his eyes seemed to dim a little.

"Since you're calling me 'sister,' how about I treat you to a meal?" Wang Simeng said.

The little boy was taken aback, then his eyes brightened a bit.

"Sister, I can buy it with silver. I have money." As she spoke, she took out a few pieces of silver from her purse with her two chubby little hands and handed them to Wang Simeng.

"My mother and father once told me that I shouldn't take other people's things for free," Jin'er said sensibly.

Seeing Jin'er's behavior, Wang Simeng decided to accept the money.

"The parents have taught them so well. If we forcefully refuse to accept them, it might not be good for the child's future," Wang Simeng thought to herself.

Wang Simeng took the silver, patted the little boy's head, and said gently, "Little Jin'er, you're so good. I'm so proud of you. If you'd like, you can come to my house often for delicious food, okay?"
