Chapter 40 I Miss Her More

"Miss, when did you get back?"

Wang Simeng rolled over while hugging the blanket. "Oh, I came back in the middle of the night."

"Miss, it's so late, are you back alone?"

Wang Simeng closed her eyes again and continued, "Yes! I came back alone, so you don't need to worry. I won't be in any danger; you know my abilities." After saying that, she closed her eyes again, intending to go back to sleep.

Shuang'er and Cui'er breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this. Seeing that Wang Simeng still looked somewhat sleepy, they didn't disturb her. "Miss, please continue sleeping. Call us if you need anything."

Wang Simeng closed her eyes and nodded slightly, "Okay~"

On the other side, Mo Beichen rode his horse and quickly arrived at the inn where Wang Simeng was staying. He had just stepped inside when...

The innkeeper then spotted Mo Beichen, the current Regent. Everyone in the capital knew him. The innkeeper quickly greeted him with a smile, bowing respectfully and saying, "Your Highness, are you here to see the young lady who stayed in room number one yesterday?"

Mo Beichen nodded and asked, "And her?"

"That girl gave me a letter, saying she'd give it to you when you arrive." The shopkeeper respectfully handed the letter to Mo Beichen.

Upon hearing this, Mo Beichen took the letter and began to read it carefully. The letter wasn't very long, and Mo Beichen read it quickly.

After reading the letter, Mo Beichen asked anxiously, "When did she leave?"

When the shopkeeper heard Mo Beichen anxiously inquiring about Wang Simeng's whereabouts, he knew that Wang Simeng must have written something for him, so he quickly explained, "Your Highness, that girl left at 9 PM yesterday."

"Don't touch anything in her room, I'll come back and get it in a bit." With that, he quickly mounted his horse and sped off towards the outskirts of the city.

Mo Beichen assumed Wang Simeng had left by carriage, and since the carriage had been stopping and starting intermittently, it couldn't have gone too far. Therefore, Mo Beichen believed that as long as he rode his horse fast enough, he would definitely be able to catch up with the carriage.

Mo Beichen rode his horse along the main road for a long time, far exceeding the maximum distance a carriage could travel, but still couldn't see Wang Simeng's carriage. Finally, disappointed, he could only ride away and head back.

Mo Beichen arrived at the inn at dawn, and now he was returning to the city as the sun was setting. The afterglow of the setting sun fell on Mo Beichen, making him appear exceptionally lonely and forlorn.

When Mo Beichen returned to the inn, Mo Mingxuan was already waiting for him.

"Uncle, what's going on?" Mo Mingxuan was full of questions.

Mo Beichen didn't say anything, but handed the letter to Mo Mingxuan, and then walked towards the room where Wang Simeng had lived.

Mo Mingxuan quickly finished reading the letter and then followed Mo Beichen upstairs.

In Wang Simeng's room, three three-tiered gift boxes were neatly arranged on the table. Each gift box had a card on top, with New Year's greetings and the recipient's name.

Mo Beichen found the gift box that Wang Simeng had given him, looked down at it, and gently stroked the box with his hand, as if he could touch Wang Simeng in the process.

Mo Mingxuan stood aside, watching Mo Beichen's actions without saying a word. He felt that his uncle was acting strangely today, as if he wasn't the same as before, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.

Mo Beichen took his gift box and Emperor Yongshun's gift box and turned back to the palace, with Mo Mingxuan following closely behind with his own gift box.

In the Regent's Palace, in the Regent's study, Mo Beichen and Mo Mingxuan each opened their gift boxes.

The first thing you see on the first floor is a camera.

"Wow! It's a camera!" Mo Mingxuan excitedly picked up the camera.

He glanced at it, then put the camera away.

Mo Beichen saw the camera in the gift box, but didn't show the excitement he had expected. He took the camera out of the box without saying a word, but his eyes revealed a hint of tenderness. It was as if he could see Wang Simeng preparing a gift for him.

At this moment, Mo Mingxuan also came closer to take a look.

"Wow, Uncle, your camera is dark purple, it's pretty. My camera is dark blue, but it's no worse than yours."

The two then opened the second layer. Mo Beichen saw a wolf king lamp, while Mo Mingxuan saw a lion lamp.

"Oh, it's a desk lamp. I was so envious when Simeng gave it to Father. I never thought I'd have one so soon. Haha." Mo Mingxuan laughed happily.

Mo Beichen recalled that at the Lantern Festival, he saw Wang Simeng choose a white rabbit mask, and without thinking, he directly chose a wolf king mask.

Now that I understand my own heart, I realize that my mask is that of a wolf king, and my mask is that of Wang Simeng's little white rabbit. Isn't this a case of the big bad wolf eating the little white rabbit?

Thinking of this, Mo Beichen chuckled softly.

Upon opening the third layer, the two saw a musical crystal ball that resembled them to some extent. Both Mo Beichen and Mo Mingxuan felt a warm glow in their hearts.

Then they saw some picture frames. Mo Beichen and Mo Mingxuan were both surprised. Neither of them knew that Wang Simeng had secretly taken these photos.

Some photos are of Mo Beichen and Mo Mingxuan alone, while others are group photos of Mo Beichen, Mo Mingxuan, and Wang Simeng.

Mo Beichen and Mo Mingxuan picked up the photos of the three people inside the gift box and examined them carefully. In the photos, Mo Beichen and Mo Mingxuan were both smiling and looking into the distance, while Wang Simeng was smiling slightly at the camera.

The two of them looked at the photo for a long time.

"Sigh, Simeng is so thoughtful," Mo Mingxuan said, touched. "She's only been gone a short while, and I'm already missing her."

Mo Beichen didn't speak. But in his heart, he was thinking, "I miss her even more."

When Wang Simeng woke up, she found it was already noon. She stretched, slipped into her space to wash up, took a carton of pure milk from the mini-supermarket, inserted a straw, and then left the space and walked out of the room.

"Miss, you're up!" Shuang'er said happily when she saw Wang Simeng come out.

"Haha, yes. Have you missed me these past few days?" Wang Simeng asked with a smile.

"Mmm." Shuang'er nodded emphatically.

Cui'er quickly added, "Miss, Shuang'er and I have missed you so much."

"Haha~!" Wang Simeng laughed, then said to Cui'er and Shuang'er, "You two are getting sweeter and sweeter. Here, I'll give you and Shuang'er a roast duck, a specialty of Beijing." As she spoke, she took out a fragrant roast duck from her spatial storage.

After trying Peking duck in Beijing, Wang Simeng went to a Peking duck shop again the day before the Lantern Festival and bought 20 ducks in one go. The shop owner was astonished.

"Yay, thank you, Miss!" Cui'er cheered as she took the roast duck and ran off.

"That girl!" Wang Simeng shook her head. "Shuang'er, go and fetch the steward. After he comes, you and Cui'er can go eat together."

"Yes, Miss." Shuang'er said with a smile and then walked out.

Miss is back, that's great.

Not long after, a middle-aged man rushed in.

"Miss." The butler approached Wang Simeng and greeted her respectfully.
