In the dead of night, all emotions are amplified.
The usually strong and calm Chen Sisi could no longer hold back and dropped her pretense, burying her head in Gu Chengfeng's wrist and sobbing softly.
This was the first time in over twenty years that she had felt so helpless and panicked.
Back then, when her father was imprisoned and her mother suddenly fell ill, she remained calm and composed, acting as the pillar and backbone of the family, quietly taking care of everything.
Even though Chen Ting got the spot in the cultural troupe, even though she went to the countryside as an educated youth, spending her days picking cotton or farming, and even though she adopted Niu Niu and was burdened with a bad reputation, she had never felt so desperate.
But why, this time, was she completely at a loss?
Why did her chest feel empty, as if something very important was missing, whenever she thought that Gu Chengfeng might never wake up again?
This powerless and invisible pain was like a giant beast from the abyss, constantly devouring her.
"Gu Chengfeng, wake up, please wake up, okay?"
"We're supposed to have a wedding banquet together. You haven't taken wedding photos with me yet, and you haven't even seen me in my wedding dress. You can't treat me like this..."
"And Niu Niu, she also hopes her father can wake up. She misses you a lot and wants you to take her to learn how to shoot a gun and how to write..."
"We can't live without you, I...I can't live without you..."
Lost in thought, she sobbed uncontrollably, her cries echoing in Gu Chengfeng's ears.
As her vision blurred with tears and she could no longer see, Gu Chengfeng's brows slowly furrowed, and a single tear slid down his cheek...
She cried all night, her eyes swollen like walnuts. She didn't remember when she fell asleep. When she woke up, she saw a group of doctors examining Gu Chengfeng's body.
Standing next to her was Professor Fei, whom she knew well.
Everyone tacitly lowered their voices, not wanting to wake her.
She cried all night last night, and the nurses at the nurses' station heard it clearly. The news quickly spread throughout the hospital.
"Professor Fei, how is Chengfeng doing?" Shen Sisi asked in a hoarse voice, completely unaware that her face was covered in tears and her eyes were so swollen that she could barely open them.
Fei Liming gestured for her to calm down before slowly saying, "His physical indicators are recovering, much better than before. His brainwaves are showing subtle responses to our speech and tapping sounds, which is a very good sign. However, if he still can't wake up tonight, we'll probably have to consider surgery."
The surgeon was an expert brought in from Kyoto, not Fei Liming. He was just a professor of cardiology and pulmonology, and he couldn't help with neurology either.
However, he reassured Shen Sisi that the neurosurgeon was his good friend and a leading figure in neurology.
“Last night, he responded to what I said; his fingers even twitched, but unfortunately…”
Unfortunately, he still didn't wake up.
“This proves that Gu Chengfeng is working very hard to recover. It’s just a process. Can we not rush him and let him rest for a few more days? If it really doesn’t work, then we can have the surgery,” Shen Sisi asked.
The elderly doctor with white hair standing nearby scoffed upon hearing this: "Are you the doctor or am I? This patient's condition seems to be improving at first glance, but no one can guarantee that the blood clot in his brain won't change. If the blood clot shifts or new bleeding points appear, it could be fatal..."
Upon hearing this, Chen Sisi's heart tightened.
The doctor was right. If the blood stasis didn't dissipate and Gu Chengfeng didn't wake up, then the only option would be to try craniotomy.
However, the surgery carries very high risks.
"There's still one day left. I hope Chengfeng can wake up soon!"
Shen Sisi nodded in agreement, then asked, "Does your hospital have any special medicine that can improve blood circulation and remove blood stasis?"
The white-haired doctor said, "Not yet, we can only observe for now."
Suddenly, Shen Sisi remembered her medicated oil: "Then, could we apply some medicated oil to him to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis?"
The white-haired doctor immediately started panting heavily and cursed, "Medicated oil? What kind of unregulated product is this? Our hospital doesn't have any effective medicines. Don't you dare believe in those folk remedies. If anything goes wrong, our hospital won't be responsible!"
Shen Sisi thought the old doctor was very fierce, and she was left speechless after being scolded.
Just as she was feeling down, Fei Liming suddenly gave her a wink, signaling her not to speak yet, but to wait until the ward rounds were over.
Although the old doctor was fierce, he was very conscientious and responsible. He examined the patient for a long time, and then, using the same excuse as before, he left in a large group of doctors and medical students.
As soon as the person left, Fei Liming closed the door and gave her a reproachful look.
"You silly girl, you're so naive. You asked Dr. Wang in front of everyone, of course he wouldn't allow you to do anything reckless!"
After being enlightened by his words, Shen Sisi suddenly realized the truth and wished she could slap herself twice.
She was so worried that she lost her composure and cried so much that she forgot how could she ask such a question in public? Wasn't that just setting a trap for the old doctor?
It would be a miracle if they agreed.
"Professor Fei, do you...do you believe me?" she asked tentatively.
Fei Liming laughed and said, "Are you thinking of trying your medicinal oil on Chengfeng?"
Shen Sisi froze on the spot. She didn't recall ever mentioning the medicated oil to Fei Liming. How did he know?
Seeing her confusion, Fei Liming lowered his voice and said, "To be honest, it was by chance that I used the medicinal oil you made... However, now is not the time to talk about this. The most urgent thing is to find a way to wake Chengfeng up so that we can make the next judgment."
