In her eagerness to save the woman, she completely ignored the vast difference in "strength" between herself and the elderly woman.
Instead of being pulled back, she stumbled and was almost pulled off the boat by the old woman.
At the critical moment, a strong force suddenly appeared on her back, accompanied by a thud. Someone grabbed her from behind and pulled her back from the brink of danger.
The old woman was also rescued and returned to her seat.
Still shaken, Chen Sisi felt a sudden chill run down her spine, her back drenched in cold sweat.
The old woman was also quite frightened; her face turned pale, her lips trembled, and she hadn't recovered yet.
Chen Sisi, holding Niu Niu and panting heavily, was about to thank her savior when a cry of alarm came from behind her: "Brother Hua, your hand..."
She turned her head at the sound and saw the older man behind her, clutching his wrist in pain.
The older brother was about twenty-five or twenty-six years old. He was quite robust, with a square face, thick eyebrows, big eyes, and a bit of handsomeness. He looked like a very upright man.
The boy next to him was skinny, with thin arms and legs, like a child who hadn't fully grown up.
Just now, it was this man who stepped in just in time to pull her and the old lady back onto the boat!
That dull thud... it must have been his wrist hitting the chair; it sounded really painful.
Shen Sisi noticed that the man's wrist was purple and swollen, indicating that he was seriously injured.
"Are you alright?" Shen Sisi asked with concern.
Before the man could speak, the sixteen or seventeen-year-old boy beside him exploded like a firecracker: "Does my brother look like he's alright?"
"My hand was already injured, and I made it even worse while trying to save you."
"Alright, Xiao Jiang, it's good that they're all alright." Cao Hua endured the excruciating pain and whispered to stop him.
He looked up and glanced at Chen Sisi as usual, but he was completely stunned by that one glance.
What a beautiful girl!
She had a small face, fair and tender skin, and bright, watery eyes. She looked delicate and soft, like a flower bud about to bloom. It's no exaggeration to say that she was more beautiful than any woman he had ever seen in his life.
She is not only beautiful, but also kind-hearted.
Seeing the old woman about to fall into the water, she instinctively reached out to save her.
Cao Hua chuckled to himself as he stared at the pretty face, and his hand seemed to hurt less.
"Are you alright?" Cao Hua asked softly.
Chen Sisi shook her head: "I'm fine, but your hand is swollen..."
"It's just a minor injury, it'll be fine in a bit." Cao Hua pretended to be okay and rotated his wrist, secretly gasping in pain.
Dong Xiaojiang glared angrily: "Brother Hua, don't be so stubborn... You twisted your hand yesterday, and it's still swollen today, and you've bumped it again. What if you become crippled..."
"Crippled my ass!!!" Cao Hua wished he could kick this guy to the bottom of the boat.
"Brother, I was wrong, ptooey, ptooey, children say the darndest things, bad things don't come true but good things do..."
Looking at the two lovable characters, Chen Sisi couldn't help but laugh out loud and took out a small bottle of medicinal oil from her cloth bag.
"This medicated oil is homemade. It can reduce swelling and promote blood circulation. You can use it to rub your hands."
A wave of emotion welled up in Cao Hua's eyes; she had made it herself...
He stared at the medicinal oil as if it were some rare treasure.
"I'm so sorry..." he said politely.
"Take this, thank you for saving me..." Shen Sisi stuffed the medicine into his hand and instructed him to apply it externally at least twice a day until his skin turned red.
Cao Hua held the medicine bottle carefully and replied repeatedly, "Okay, okay, I understand. Thank you. My name is Cao Hua, Cao as in Cao Cao and Hua as in China. I don't know your name yet."
Chen Sisi smiled calmly, not answering him, but looking at the bow of the boat: "We've reached the shore."
She helped the old woman off the boat and sat her down on a large rock on the shore.
With tears in her eyes, the old woman held her hand and thanked her repeatedly: "Thank you, young lady. If it weren't for you, I would have fallen into the river just now... In this freezing winter, I would have either died or fallen seriously ill!"
Chen Sisi patted the back of her hand reassuringly: "Auntie, you should thank Brother Cao, who saved us, not me."
"Shouldn't you have to pull me first for him to reach you?"
She thought for a moment and realized that made sense: "Anyway, be more careful next time and don't get distracted again..."
The old lady thanked them profusely again, insisting on treating Shen Sisi and Cao Hua to a meal.
“My name is Xu Jinhua. People around the South Gate know me. I’m not a bad person. I just want to thank you both for your great kindness.”
Cao Hua had already disembarked, but upon seeing Shen Sisi, he couldn't resist staying with her and keeping the old lady company.
Hearing that Xu Jinhua wanted to treat him to a meal was exactly what he wanted.
Just as he was about to agree, Dong Xiaojiang casually declined, "We don't have time to go eat... My brother Hua is very busy. He's the head of unloading cargo at Pier No. 8, and he manages a lot of people..."
Cao Hua angrily shoved him hard: "If you don't speak, no one will think you're mute..."
"Did I say something wrong? Weren't you just rushing to the docks to discuss business...?"
Cao Hua glared angrily at Dong Xiaojiang, signaling him to shut up.
Hearing that they had something to do, Chen Sisi also politely declined Aunt Xu Jinhua's invitation: "Auntie, please skip the meal, I have other things to do too..."
After saying that, she didn't linger and walked down the stone steps with Niu Niu in her arms.
Only a few people were left staring blankly at the departing figure.
Cao Hua gripped the bottle of medicated oil so tightly that his fingers almost crushed it.
Dong Xiaojiang finally realized belatedly: "Brother Hua, you don't actually like this woman, do you?!"
"Get lost!" If Cao Hua hadn't injured his hand, he would have already beaten him up. What a useless idiot.
