Dinner was set out in front of the peak master's wooden house, on a blue stone table with three rough porcelain bowls. The dishes were simple: a plate of stir-fried wild vegetables, a dish of cured meat, and a pot of sweet potatoes that had been boiled until soft.
The peak master sat down, poured himself a bowl of wine, tilted his head back and took a swig, not caring that the wine dripped down his chin and onto his clothes.
He looked at Xiao Chen with blurry, drunken eyes and tapped his fingers on the table: "Kid, let me ask you, with your talent, you could have gone to Dongxu Peak to learn swordsmanship from the elders, or to Nanyue Peak to learn alchemy in the Pill Hall, so why did you choose to come to my godforsaken Wuyue Peak?"
Xiao Chen paused, his hand holding the chopsticks. He knew that in front of a powerful figure like the Peak Master, whose cultivation level was unknown, lies could not be concealed.
He put down his chopsticks and said frankly, "I have just entered the Four Directions Sect and my foundation is shallow. Even if I go to other strong peaks, I will only be going with the flow."
"But there are few people on Five Peaks. If I can accomplish something here and achieve something, I will have a real voice in the sect in the future."
After listening, the peak master took another swig of wine, letting out a "hehe" laugh as the wine spilled from the corner of his mouth: "Interesting... He's more honest than those kids who only think about mooching resources."
"What you want to do is none of my business, nor will I ask. Just don't cause trouble for the Five Peaks."
Qinghe smiled and put a piece of sweet potato on Xiao Chen's plate: "Did you hear that? The peak master is tacitly protecting you! From now on, there will finally be three people on our Five Peaks who can eat together."
Looking at the drunken peak master in front of him, and then at Qinghe who was smiling brightly, Xiao Chen suddenly felt that this desolate Five Peaks didn't seem so bad after all.
