In the darkness, a green light suddenly shone, and more than a dozen agile figures leaped out from the shadows of the rock wall, a foul stench wafting towards them—it was the Star Prison Wolf.
These wolves were covered in dark purple scales, with exposed fangs. Their saliva dripped onto the ground, corroding and producing wisps of blue smoke, indicating that they were quite venomous.
Instead of attacking immediately, they spread out in a fan shape, surrounding the group, their green eyes gleaming with greed and cunning.
"Watch out! It's a pack of wolves!"
Bai Feng let out a low shout, shielding Bai Yiluo behind him. The long sword in his hand hummed. "Star Prison Wolves are best at hunting in groups. They are not top-notch in one-on-one combat, but once they form a formation, they can wear down even a late-stage Dao Proving cultivator!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the wolf pack moved.
They spontaneously split into three waves, attacking the Bai, Shi, and Tang families' teams respectively, their coordination so perfect it was unlike that of wild beasts.
What's even more chilling is that new green lights keep appearing in the darkness, and more than a dozen Star Prison Wolves emerge, bringing the total to over thirty, completely blocking the mine passage.
"Damn it, so many!" Shi Meng cursed, crossing his double axes in front of him to block the attack of a Star Prison Wolf. Sparks flew as he roared and flung the wolf away, "Shi family, follow me and kill them!"
Tang Ling, the young girl from the Tang family, quickly retreated. The bell in her hand jingled softly, and dozens of silver threads shot out from the ground, instantly binding the limbs of the two Star Prison Wolves. The array light shone, trapping the wolves in place: "Don't fight head-on, use the array to wear them down!"
The Bai family's guards formed a defensive formation, their swords weaving into a net, temporarily blocking the wolf pack's attack.
Xiao Chen and Shi Tou stood to the side and rear of the Bai family's group. Almost the instant the wolf pack pounced, Shi Tou let out a low growl and his iron-like body blocked Bai Yiluo's path.
"Bang!"
One of the Star Prison Wolves lunged at Bai Yiluo first, only to be struck in the face by a punch from Stone. The wolf cried out in pain, but its claws also slashed across Stone's fist, leaving three deep, bone-revealing gashes.
"laugh……"
The bloodstain quickly turned blackish-purple, clearly indicating that it had been contaminated with the deadly poison from the wolf's claws.
"Stone!" Bai Yiluo exclaimed, instinctively wanting to hand over the antidote pill, but Stone grinned and stopped her.
"It's nothing!" Shi Tou shook his fist, and the dark purple poison spots faded at a visible speed. The muscles at the wound were wriggling and healing rapidly. "This little bit of poison is nothing!"
His body had been tempered countless times, making him immune to simple poisons. Although the Star Prison Wolf's venom was potent, its power was weak and could not break through his physical defenses.
Xiao Chen glanced at the stone's fist, a look of understanding flashing in his eyes. He then gripped the rusty iron spear and faced the oncoming Star Prison Wolf.
These wolves are exceptionally cunning in their attacks, often working in pairs: one feigns an attack from the front while the other flanks and ambushes from behind, clearly the result of long-term training and coordination.
Xiao Chen flicked his spear tip, knocking away the wolf in front of him, but he had to immediately turn his spear back to block the claw attack from behind. For a moment, he was entangled by two wolves and could not break free.
"These wolves...something's not right." Xiao Chen's heart skipped a beat. Ordinary wild beasts wouldn't have such perfect teamwork. They seemed more like trained war beasts.
Just then, a scream came from the Shi family's side.
"ah--!"
The crowd looked in the direction of the sound and saw a member of the Shi family being pounced on by three Star Prison Wolves. Before he could struggle, he was dragged into the deeper darkness by the wolves. His screams were quickly replaced by the sound of chewing, leaving only echoes reverberating in the mine.
Everyone's face darkened.
The shadow of death instantly loomed over them. The disciples who had previously been somewhat dismissive now had only solemn expressions in their eyes—this was not a trial, but a real death sentence.
Xiao Chen's gaze swept over the wolf pack and suddenly fixed on the rock wall to his right.
There stood a wolf, noticeably larger than the other Star Prison Wolves. It didn't directly participate in the battle, but instead lowered its body slightly, emitting low growls. With each growl, the wolf pack's attack on the Bai family's group would change its strategy, sometimes launching a full-scale assault, sometimes feigning a retreat, sometimes flanking them...
"That's it!" Xiao Chen suddenly realized. "That's the leader of the wolf pack!"
No wonder these wolves cooperated so well; there was a leader secretly directing them!
"Brother Bai, Brother Shi, Miss Tang!" Xiao Chen shouted, his voice piercing through the sounds of battle. "The large wolf under the right cliff is the leader. Kill it, and the pack will fall into chaos!"
Upon hearing this, Shi Meng and Tang Ling immediately looked to their right and indeed saw the unique Star Prison Wolf. A look of realization flashed in their eyes at the same time.
"I'll go kill it!" Shi Meng roared, trying to rush over, but he was tightly entangled by three Star Prison Wolves and couldn't break free at all.
Although Tang Ling's formation could trap the wolves, it also tied up most of her energy.
Bai Feng's side was also under considerable pressure. Although the guards were able to hold off the attacks, they were also unable to divide their forces.
"I'll go." Xiao Chen made a quick decision.
He suddenly changed his stance, and the rusty iron spear transformed into a streak of blue light, piercing the throat of the Star Prison Wolf in front of him at an odd angle. At the same time, he used the force to turn to the side, narrowly avoiding the wolf's claws behind him. With his feet shifting, he actually managed to break through the gap between the two wolves!
"Stop him!" Bai Feng understood and immediately ordered the guards to intensify their attack. The sword light became sharper, forcing the wolf that was pouncing on Xiao Chen back half a step.
Seizing the momentary opening, Xiao Chen moved like an arrow, rushing straight at the leader wolf.
"Awooo—!"
Sensing the threat, the alpha wolf suddenly raised its head and let out a sharp howl.
The Star Prison Wolves around him seemed to have gone mad, charging at Xiao Chen recklessly. Some pounced from the front, some intercepted from the side, and two wolves even rammed into Xiao Chen's legs, trying to slow him down.
"Good timing!"
