Chapter 26
After class at noon, Han Shuo noticed something: Meng Yuxiu seemed to be in a bad mood. To be precise, Meng Yuxiu had been in a bad mood ever since he told him about the second task, but it seemed to be even worse today.
Meng Yuxiu disliked him running to Class 1 during the ten-minute break between classes, but when Han Shuo went to see him during lunch and breakfast, although he often had a cold face, he didn't seem to have any objections.
But when Han Shuo went to Class 1 today, before he could even open his mouth, Meng Yuxiu's narrow eyes shot out a sharp light, making Han Shuo feel uneasy. He wondered if he had offended him all morning.
When he asked Meng Yuxiu what was wrong?
When Meng Yuxiu gave a cold laugh and uttered a short "Heh," Han Shuo was even more bewildered. Just walking to the cafeteria made him think through everything that had happened in the past few days with trepidation.
Could it be that Meng Yuxiu discovered his plan to have sex with Meng Yuxiu seven times?
Back then, the cafeteria provided each class with a metal frame for steaming rice, and the frame could hold dozens of lunchboxes. At mealtimes, the cafeteria staff would open the steamer and carry the metal frame outside. The students would then find their lunchboxes according to the metal frame corresponding to their class number.
When Han Shuo arrived, the first thing he did was look for Meng Yuxiu's lunchbox. Seeing that Meng Yuxiu was also bending down, he quickly stopped him and said considerately, "I'll find it for you. Don't touch it, or you'll get burned."
Normally, Meng Yuxiu would at most remain silent or say no, but today he unexpectedly stared at Han Shuo and said, "You don't need to be so obsequious."
"..." Han Shuo was completely bewildered by the sarcasm in the other person's tone.
No, bro. I've been trying to be nice to you for a while now, why are you acting like you've swallowed gunpowder today?
Meng Yuxiu didn't say another word. He found his lunchbox, took it out of the iron frame, went to another steamer to get an enamel cup for the food, and then went outside to eat while standing.
Although Meng Yuxiu was inexplicably angry today, he didn't say anything when Han Shuo came over with his lunchbox to eat with him and picked the shredded meat from his teacup into his own lunchbox.
While eating, Han Shuo secretly observed Meng Yuxiu's expression. He now regretted that he had been so engrossed in games during college that he hadn't dated a girlfriend. Otherwise, he wouldn't be so inexperienced, observing Meng Yuxiu for so long without knowing what kind of person he was.
Like any straight man, all he could do was ask, "Are you in a bad mood today?"
Just like a girl whose emotions are constantly changing, Meng Yuxiu coldly replied, "No."
"Why are you acting so strangely today?"
Then Meng Yuxiu fell silent, which made Han Shuo suffocate. He thought for a moment and then used a spoon to scoop a piece of fried tofu from his teacup into Meng Yuxiu's lunchbox. Fortunately, the food he brought this week wasn't too shabby. Han Hong said it was his birthday this week, and since the weather was cold, the food wouldn't spoil easily, so he stewed a cup of fried tofu for him. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to give it to Meng Yuxiu to appease him.
Meng Yuxiu instinctively scooped the fried tofu back into Han Shuo's lunchbox, saying, "I'm not eating it."
"No way," Han Shuo said, scooping it back. "I've been taking advantage of you every day, you should give me a chance to shine, right?"
Meng Yuxiu didn't scoop the fried tofu back up. After hearing this, he stared at Han Shuo's face for a while, and then said in a sarcastic tone, "If it weren't for the mission, you wouldn't be so nice to me at all."
Damn! Isn't this obvious? But Han Shuo thought about it and realized that what he said was both right and wrong. It was true that 70% of his goodwill towards Meng Yuxiu came from doing missions, but he swore that the remaining 30% was entirely genuine and had no vested interests involved.
Han Shuo clicked his tongue and uttered a string of scumbag lines: "Why do you overthink things? In your eyes, I'm just a lustful person? Didn't I tell you before that I'm good to you because you're a good person? Even if you don't do the second mission with me, I'll still be good to you in the future. I said that in this world, you are the closest person to me besides my brother and my nephew. Sigh, whatever, no matter what I say, you won't believe me."
In fact, Han Shuo just casually picked out a bunch of nice things to say, but unexpectedly, Meng Yuxiu's expression softened a lot after hearing them, especially his previously tense lips, which were now slightly upturned.
Seeing that it was effective, Han Shuo coaxed him to try the fried tofu stewed by Han Hong.
He watched as Meng Yuxiu took a bite and quickly asked, "How is it? Doesn't it smell delicious?"
Meng Yuxiu glanced at him and awkwardly replied, "Mm."
Han Shuo was overjoyed and immediately pushed the enamel cup to the middle, telling Meng Yuxiu to eat more. Just then, by sheer coincidence, he heard someone call his name.
"Han Shuo!"
Han Shuo and Meng Yuxiu turned around at the same time, only to see Gao Ze walking over with a cheerful expression, carrying an enamel cup.
Meng Yuxiu's lips, which had finally managed to slightly curve upwards, instantly drooped.
Just like the novelty of making new friends at school, after Gao Ze and Han Shuo got to know each other by playing basketball for a few days, they couldn't wait to hang out with each other even when eating.
After waving to Meng Yuxiu next to Han Shuo, he started chatting with Han Shuo.
"What are you eating?" Gao Ze leaned over to look at the food in Han Shuo's teacup.
"Here, have a piece of fried tofu." Han Shuo generously scooped a piece of fried tofu from his teacup and gave it to Gao Ze.
Gao Ze immediately took a big bite and, while eating, used a spoon to scoop the food from his teacup into Han Shuo's lunchbox. "I brought braised pork with dried bamboo shoots. It's been steamed for several meals now and it's very flavorful."
"It tastes good!"
"That's right, my mom is a great cook. Next time, I'll ask her to cook something different and bring it over for you to try."
"Sure!"
Meng Yuxiu stared coldly at the two people next to him, from discussing the taste of the dishes to dunking. Seeing Han Shuo's excited and animated expression when talking about basketball, he felt a lump in his throat for no reason.
Actually, boys of this age could easily join in a lively conversation with them by just chiming in with a few words, but Meng Yuxiu didn't want that. He just wanted to grab the lunchbox in his hand and smash it over Gao Ze's head.
But he was a well-mannered man, so he could only stand there, deeply adjusting his breathing, trying his best to calm himself down.
But the constant laughter and chatter of Han Shuo and Gao Ze kept getting into his ears, making it impossible for him to eat. He could only stare intently at the back of Han Shuo's head from behind.
When Gao Ze scooped another piece of meat from his teacup and put it into Han Shuo's lunchbox, Meng Yuxiu felt that his manners were about to crumble.
At that moment, he really wanted to grab Han Shuo's ear and yell into his eardrum, "Why did you eat someone else's food?!"
"Why are you so greedy?!"
"Are you a beggar?!"
Meng Yuxiu couldn't eat anymore. He felt a surge of anger rising from his lungs, especially when he saw that Han Shuo's lunchbox contained both his shredded meat and Gao Ze's braised pork. Han Shuo actually ignored his shredded meat and scooped up the braised pork with a spoon.
The anger shot straight to his temples. Without thinking, he grabbed a spoon and scooped all the shredded meat from Han Shuo's lunchbox back into his teacup.
Han Shuo was taken aback and asked, "What are you doing?"
Meng Yuxiu replied coldly, "Anyway, you won't eat it."
"Hey, I didn't say no..." But Han Shuo didn't even have time to finish his sentence before he saw Meng Yuxiu slam the lid of his teacup shut, then close his lunchbox, and walk out of the cafeteria without looking back.
"..."
"..."
Han Shuo and Gao Ze looked at each other in bewilderment.
Gao Ze: "What's wrong with him?"
"I don't know either..." Han Shuo frowned as he stared at Meng Yuxiu's retreating figure as he disappeared into the cafeteria, then glanced down at his lunchbox.
What's wrong with this person? How can they possibly ask for the food back?
Han Shuo sensed something was wrong, so he stopped talking to Gao Ze and quickly finished his lunch in his lunchbox before rushing to the teaching building.
But halfway there, he suddenly saw Meng Yuxiu walking towards him.
However, Han Shuo had only asked a couple of questions, such as "Have you eaten yet?" and "Why did you leave so suddenly?" when he saw Meng Yuxiu take something out of his pocket, grab Han Shuo's hand, and slap the thing into his palm.
Han Shuo looked down and saw two sheets of paper.
"What is this?" Han Shuo frowned as he unfolded the letter and read its contents.
"Take it back," Meng Yuxiu said coldly.
Han Shuo then realized that the two sheets of paper seemed to be love letters that his class monitor, Jiang Xiaowen, had asked him to deliver.
Upon hearing Meng Yuxiu's words, Han Shuo exclaimed in surprise, "Huh? Take it back? You can take this thing back?"
To be honest, Han Shuo would feel quite embarrassed to return it, since he had copied Jiang Xiaowen's math homework for a whole month.
He asked, "There has to be a reason to take this back, right?"
Meng Yuxiu: "There is no reason."
Han Shuo said with difficulty, "This was written with great effort and sincerity. It would be too much of a liar to say there's no reason for it."
Meng Yuxiu stared at Han Shuo's face, then suddenly recalled an unpleasant scene from the cafeteria. He said coldly, "I don't like it, okay?"
What could Han Shuo say? This love letter was none of his business anyway.
So he put the two love letters in his pocket and said, "Okay then."
However, just as he was about to step out to find Jiang Xiaowen to return the love letter, he heard Meng Yuxiu say something chillingly behind him.
"If you want to be with someone, don't be fickle."
Han Shuo turned his head and looked at Meng Yuxiu's face suspiciously.
What does this mean? Did I tell him this on purpose?
Han Shuo pondered for a moment, then suddenly it dawned on him. Damn! Could it be that this kid is rejecting Jiang Xiaowen's advances because he'll be his bed partner in the future?
Holy crap, I didn't expect someone so young to be so feudal, actually upholding male virtues for him?
Upon this idea, Han Shuo's eyes lit up instantly, and he happily said to Meng Yuxiu, "Great! Excellent, wonderful!"
What he didn't know was that when he finished speaking and happily ran to the teaching building to return the love letter to Jiang Xiaowen, Meng Yuxiu's face had already turned completely black.
Han Shuo returned to Class 7 and went straight to Jiang Xiaowen's seat.
Jiang Xiaowen was reading a book and didn't notice someone sitting down next to her.
Han Shuo patted his arm. "Stop looking. I have something to tell you."
Upon seeing that it was Han Shuo, Jiang Xiaowen immediately put down the book in her hand.
Han Shuo took two sheets of paper out of his pocket and handed them to him.
"This is..." Jiang Xiaowen looked at the letter in his hand and didn't react for a moment.
Han Shuo gestured with his chin towards him and said, "Meng Yuxiu asked me to return this to you."
Jiang Xiaowen took the letter and, after recognizing it as the two love letters he had written, almost burst into tears.
He asked Han Shuo, "Did he say anything?"
Seeing his pitiful appearance, and remembering that Meng Yuxiu had rejected Jiang Xiaowen because of him, Han Shuo felt a pang of guilt if he were to relay Meng Yuxiu's words.
So he put his hand on Jiang Xiaowen's shoulder and patted him lightly twice, saying, "You'd better not listen to it, it's really awful."
Jiang Xiaowen asked, her lips trembling slightly, "But why did he only return it to me a month later?"
Han Shuo sighed deeply, thinking to himself, "You four-eyed guy, because in a month I'll be sleeping with your idol."
"Little Four-Eyes... no, Little Wen, you should find a better man as soon as possible. He's not worth it."
