Chapter 16
"For Meng Yuxiu?"
Han Shuo immediately felt as if he had been doused with cold water. Yes, he wasn't interested in men, but when he discovered that not only were no women paying attention to him, but now that even men weren't interested in him, his overestimated charm made him feel unbalanced.
He subconsciously thought of Meng Yuxiu's face. Could it be that everyone here likes people with such delicate skin? But that doesn't make sense either. Isn't his seventeen-year-old body quite delicate skin too?
He wondered again, do they all like an aloof face like Meng Yuxiu? Isn't his cool guy face appealing?
Seeing that Han Shuo didn't answer the message and seemed lost in thought, Jiang Xiaowen said nervously, "It's like this, last time I accidentally spilled water on Meng Yuxiu's shoes in the cafeteria, and I haven't had a chance to apologize to him yet..."
Han Shuo raised an eyebrow, realizing he had almost been hurt by what he thought was a love letter.
He snatched the letter from Jiang Xiaowen's hand. "Huh? An apology letter? You should have said so earlier. Why did you fold it all these fancy?"
Jiang Xiaowen blushed and murmured softly, "That would be more sincere."
"Is it really necessary to make such a fuss over such a trivial matter?" Han Shuo said, then thought again. Oh no, Meng Yuxiu is really hard to say. He only made a couple of jokes, and this guy has been ignoring him for days.
"Alright, alright, I'll take it to you now." Since Han Shuo was going to see Meng Yuxiu later anyway, it was just a small favor.
Jiang Xiaowen thanked him repeatedly, but when Han Shuo reached the corner of the stairs, he called out to him again: "Hey, four-eyed guy, I'm delivering a letter to you. Let me copy your math homework later."
Jiang Xiaowen nodded repeatedly.
This is a small favor, Han Shuo hates doing math homework the most, and his friends' grades are about the same as his. If he helps Jiang Xiaowen now, he'll have ready-made answers in the future.
Han Shuo ran downstairs happily. He originally planned to deliver the letter first and then go to the playground to buy oranges, but as soon as he reached the first floor, he saw a girl coming back from buying oranges and chatting with someone. She said that the orange vendor was about to leave.
Han Shuo quickly asked the girl, "Are the oranges sold out?"
"I don't know," the girl said. "When I went to buy them, there were only a few left. If you want to buy some, hurry up, or the vendor might leave, and the bell will ring soon."
Upon hearing this, Han Shuo glanced towards the classroom door of Class 1 and asked the girl, "Which class are you in?"
"From Class One."
That's perfect.
Han Shuo handed Jiang Xiaowen's letter to the girl, told her "Give this to Meng Yuxiu for me," and then hurriedly ran to the playground.
Meng Yuxiu basically spends all his time in his seat during the ten-minute breaks between classes, except when he goes to the toilet. He used to have to rush to do tasks with Han Shuo, but he's had some free time these past few days.
He was reviewing his notes when he heard someone call his name. He looked up and saw a girl from his class, whose name he didn't know, walking over and handing him a letter.
In the 21st century and in this era, Meng Yuxiu has received many love letters. He doesn't have the habit of throwing things away, so he took the letter expressionlessly, casually tossed it into his desk drawer, and then continued reading his documents.
However, one of the girl's words almost made him think he had misheard. He looked up again and asked, "Who did you say?"
"Han Shuo asked me to give it to you."
"Han Shuo?" Meng Yuxiu asked, frowning.
“Yes,” the girl said, “he handed it to me and then ran off in a hurry.”
Meng Yuxiu might be unmoved by other people's love letters. But when he heard it was from Han Shuo, he couldn't help but feel a twitch at the corner of his mouth.
Meng Yuxiu's subconscious thought was that if Han Shuo wasn't running to the back door of his classroom to nag him now, what tricks was he up to?
After the girl left, he took the heart-shaped letter out of his desk drawer, frowned, hesitated for a few seconds, and then opened it.
However, the further he looked down, the more indescribable his expression became.
The letter reads as follows.
Hello Meng Yuxiu.
I want to apologize for what happened in the cafeteria. You might not take it to heart, but I thought I should still tell you.
I should have told you this in person, but I was too embarrassed. You probably don't know, but I've been secretly watching you since last semester.
How embarrassing! This is the first time I've ever written a letter to someone.
"..." Meng Yuxiu's eyes twitched violently twice when he saw this. Suddenly, the image of Han Shuo biting his pen with a shy expression flashed into his mind, and he almost endured the discomfort to continue reading.
I don't know what to say. I just want to say that Meng Yuxiu, you are outstanding and you shine brightly in my eyes.
Every time I brush past you, my heart races, but I don't dare tell you. I can only pretend to be casual as I pass by your class and secretly look at you.
I hope I haven't bothered you, and I apologize again.
(7) A person in class who really admires you
"Crazy." Meng Yuxiu silently gave this assessment after reading the letter, then tossed it back into his desk drawer.
He thought that if Han Shuo's family was well-off, he should really get his head checked. If he really wanted to apologize, then Han Shuo should apologize for something important, not that little incident in the cafeteria, which happened so long ago.
As class was about to begin, the students returned to the classroom one after another. Meng Yuxiu had just closed his book when he caught a glimpse of a familiar figure appearing at the back door of the classroom.
He saw Han Shuo leaning halfway out and beeping at him.
Meng Yuxiu inexplicably thought of that sentence in the letter.
"I can only pretend to pass by your class by chance and secretly look at you. I hope I am not disturbing you."
Meng Yuxiu was speechless. Han Shuo's words in the letter were nice, but his actual actions were still harassing.
And after finally keeping quiet for two days, they've started harassing us again and it's never-ending.
When Meng Yuxiu ignored him, he would just keep babbling or calling his name softly.
The girls in the classroom turned around and whispered and covered their mouths to giggle, while the boys cheered.
"Meng Yuxiu is here to see you! Go now!"
"Han Shuo is being so enthusiastic towards you, why are you still sitting there?"
Meng Yuxiu felt quite embarrassed. Even though Han Shuo was yelling like a monkey at the back door of the classroom, he still felt as if his face had been rubbed hard on the ground.
He couldn't sit still any longer and had to stand up.
The two walked behind the wall, blocking the view of the other people in the classroom.
Meng Yuxiu asked coldly, "What is it?"
"You're such a big shot, it took you ages to come out after I called you."
"Is there something you need?"
The bell rang. Han Shuo originally wanted to give Meng Yuxiu the oranges and appease him, but there was no time. So he took two bright yellow oranges out of his pocket and stuffed them into Meng Yuxiu's arms.
Meng Yuxiu turned slightly to avoid Han Shuo's hand, refusing without hesitation: "No."
"Take it." Han Shuo continued to force it into his arms. "I specially went to buy this for you."
"I said no..."
"Take this quickly, class is about to start, and the teacher will see you if you don't hurry."
The two were shoving each other against the wall by the back door of the classroom when the teacher, who was giving a lesson, came out of the office at the far end of the corridor. Han Shuo took the opportunity to throw the orange into Meng Yuxiu's arms, not caring that it rolled to the ground.
He quickly said, "Oh dear, I wanted to talk to you about something, but I don't have time now. I'll come find you after class at noon! I'm leaving now!"
He then hurriedly ran upstairs.
Meng Yuxiu had no choice but to pick up the two oranges on the ground before the teacher arrived, and then return to the classroom.
Not many students in this small county come from well-off families, and those who live on campus don't usually have snacks or anything like that.
Meng Yuxiu's male deskmate's eyes lit up when he saw the oranges in his hand. He leaned over and whispered to Meng Yuxiu, "Hey Meng Yuxiu, Han Shuo from Class 7 usually looks fierce, but he's really nice to you. Is his family rich? He's willing to buy you oranges. If a boy or girl ever buys me oranges, I'll be so happy."
Meng Yuxiu was taken aback when he heard this.
He had been to Han Shuo's house, and the conditions there were indescribable. Moreover, Han Shuo had previously told him that he only had one yuan a week for round-trip transportation.
These oranges...
Meng Yuxiu inexplicably thought of the contents of the letter. He had been speechless at Han Shuo's new tricks just now, but now he frowned deeply.
"Hey." His deskmate patted Meng Yuxiu's arm and said with a fawning smile, "Meng Yuxiu, these oranges look pretty sweet."
Meng Yuxiu was still thinking about things. He turned his head and stared at his deskmate's expectant face for a moment, then decisively stuffed the two oranges into his pocket.
Then he casually said, "Class is about to start."
My deskmate pursed his lips and turned away dejectedly.
When Han Shuo entered the classroom, the teacher was already there, so he was scolded again and made to stand in the corridor for ten minutes before being allowed to return to the classroom.
With ten minutes less of class time, Han Shuo was even more pleased with his newfound freedom. Back in his seat, Pi Dan, who sat next to him, noticed Han Shuo's gloomy demeanor after his ten-minute break and asked curiously, "Why are you suddenly so happy?"
Why do you say that?
Pidan: "When you returned to school on Sunday, you had a worried look on your face, but then you were happy during evening self-study. But when you went back to the dorm, you started looking worried again, and then you were worried for several days. You were happy again just after you went out for a while."
Han Shuo raised an eyebrow, surprised, and said, "I didn't realize you had such amazing insight."
The person in front of him turned around and whispered, "Do you even need to be perceptive? Someone like you, your thoughts are all written on your face, only a blind person wouldn't be able to see that."
Pidan asked, "Where have you been? You're so happy to be back?"
Han Shuo couldn't possibly tell them that he had gone to curry favor with Meng Yuxiu, even though he would have to go back sooner or later. But before he returned, he still had to save face, after all, he was quite a prominent figure at Yunxi Middle School.
Another classmate, Pan Xiaodong, leaned over and told Pidan with an experienced look, "It goes without saying, judging from Han Shuo's expression, he's definitely in a relationship."
Han Shuo raised an eyebrow, pondering Pan Xiaodong's words. Judging from his current interactions with Meng Yuxiu, it really did have a hint of romance. Indeed, he showered her with gifts and tried to appease her, while Meng Yuxiu would get angry at the drop of a hat, acting like a little girl.
Han Shuo laughed heartily, perhaps thinking of the description of Meng Yuxiu as a little girl.
Seeing his lovestruck smile, the three close friends got even more excited and kept asking him if that person was Meng Yuxiu.
"Go away, go away." Han Shuo waved his hand, reluctant to leave for class. "Don't mess around with this nonsense. I don't have any of your fetishes."
Han Shuo was planning to go find Meng Yuxiu after class at noon, but as soon as the bell rang, he was called to the office.
It's nothing more than him being late for class and chatting in the last class, plus scoring only in the thirties on last week's exam.
The homeroom teacher gave Han Shuo a long lecture in the office, and Han Shuo listened attentively, nodding and agreeing to whatever the teacher said.
Just then, Han Shuo saw Meng Yuxiu walk into the office carrying a stack of homework books.
Han Shuo winked at him, but Meng Yuxiu chose not to see it. He walked straight to the math teacher's desk, handed in his homework, and left the office.
"Han Shuo, the teacher has a question for you."
Han Shuo was in a hurry to leave, knowing that the homeroom teacher's lecture would go on and on, so he quickly covered his stomach.
"Ouch, ouch, Teacher Yu, my stomach hurts."
"Stop pretending with the teacher."
Han Shuo deliberately hunched his back, almost stomping his feet on the spot, "My stomach really hurts. If I don't go to the toilet soon, I'm going to poop in my pants."
The homeroom teacher had no choice but to wave him away.
Han Shuo thought Meng Yuxiu would leave quickly and he would have to chase after him. But to his surprise, Meng Yuxiu was already waiting for him outside.
This surprised Han Shuo quite a bit.
"Waiting for me?"
Meng Yuxiu nodded, then took out two oranges from his pocket and returned them to Han Shuo.
"?" Han Shuo was taken aback. "What?"
"Here you go."
Han Shuo said dejectedly, "I bought it for you to eat, there's no reason for me to return it."
Meng Yuxiu said, "If I want to eat it, I'll buy it myself."
Han Shuo laughed and said, "You don't even have a single yuan, how are you going to buy it?"
"..."
Han Shuo pushed his hand and the orange back to him. "Don't be angry. Consider it my apology. I really didn't mean to laugh at you that day, actually..."
Han Shuo looked around, then leaned closer and whispered, "Actually, I got hard when we kissed that night too..."
Meng Yuxiu looked at him coldly, as if to say, "Keep making things up."
Han Shuo had already thought of a reason in the past few days. The reason Meng Yuxiu was angry was simply because he felt ashamed that two men kissed and he had a reaction to the kiss.
No problem, Han Shuo will just find an even more embarrassing reason than him.
Han Shuo: "Actually, I didn't lie to you that night, it's just... I get hard quickly, but I go soft even faster... it was already..."
He shrugged and said helplessly, "You know what I mean."
Meng Yuxiu seemed shocked after hearing this, and seeing Han Shuo's distressed expression, he didn't know how to comfort him for a moment.
Han Shuo was inwardly amused by his reaction. But on the surface, he patted Meng Yuxiu's shoulder as if to comfort himself, "Don't look at me like that, it's nothing."
Meng Yuxiu hesitated for a moment, then finally managed to stammer, "Then... what will you do in the future?"
Han Shuo chuckled and said, "Don't worry about that, it's not your responsibility anyway."
