Chapter 13 He Can Wait

Chapter 13 He Can Wait

The sky was overcast the next day. In the afternoon, Lin Shulan brought some documents and a set of Go. Shi Chengyu held several meetings in the study, and Shen Chutang curled up on the sofa and painted.

At night, Shi Chengyu did not say he wanted to leave. It was just a matter of an extra pair of chopsticks. The two families had a good relationship. So many things had been delivered over the past two days, and Shen Boyu was embarrassed to chase him away.

Shen Boyu had developed a habit when he was in the army. He woke up at around five in the morning. There was thunder in the sky and the gloomy weather lasted for a day and a night. It finally rained. He didn't go back to sleep after waking up. He simply got up and went to the study on the T floor to look at the chess record.

When passing by Shen Chutang's room, I found that the door was half open, with faint light coming from inside, and I could faintly hear something like crying.

He walked quickly to the door, but stopped.

The bedside lamp emitted a warm yellow light. Shi Chengyu held her in his arms and carefully wiped the tears from her face, his brows wrinkled. He wanted to get the quilt beside him, but his arms were held tightly by Shen Chutang and he couldn't get away.

Hearing the voice, Shi Chengyu turned around and saw Shen Boyu standing at the door. He was slightly stunned and called out "Grandpa" in a low voice.

"What's wrong?" Shen Boyu came closer and felt distressed when he saw Shen Chutang's face full of tears.

Shi Chengyu put his hand on her ear and whispered, "It's thundering, Tangtang is a little scared."

Shen Chutang cried softly, her fingers tightly clenched on the hem of Shi Chengyu's clothes, as if she had suffered some injustice, feeling uneasy and helpless.

Shen Boyu walked over, took the quilt and handed it to Shi Chengyu. He watched him wrap the man up, the heartache in his eyes seemed to be overflowing. He comforted him in a gentle voice without a trace of impatience.

It was still raining outside, the sound of the rain coming in through the window, accompanied by occasional muffled thunder. After a while, Lin Shulan brought earplugs, and Shen Chutang was finally completely soothed and fell asleep.

Shi Chengyu's pajamas were wrinkled, with wet water marks on them. He smiled at Shen Boyu apologetically, "I'm sorry to embarrass you, Grandpa. Your window is not very soundproof."

"Don't set your sights on my house. It's old and can't withstand any damage." Shen Boyu saw through his intention and found these words awkward to hear, so he quickly spoke up to dissuade him from the idea.

"If you want to change, just change to Tangtang's room."

Shen Boyu walked towards the study and looked at the two people sleeping like dead pigs in the other two rooms. He couldn't help but curse them in his heart.

"Call Chengyu? Right? Come over and play the next game with me?" Shen Boyu turned around and looked at Shi Chengyu who was following behind him.

Shi Chengyu nodded, "Okay, Grandpa, I'll go back and change my clothes first."

After a while, the two sat down at the desk.

This Go set was sent by Shi Chengyu yesterday. It is very exquisite and is no worse than the old items in his collection.

Shen Boyu was the first to place a piece on the chessboard and said straight to the point: "Do you like Tangtang?"

Shi Chengyu's expression did not change, he was still calm, "Yes."

"Is it the elders' love for the younger ones, or..." Shen Boyu didn't ask any more questions, just looked at him.

"Grandpa, Tangtang is still young, she doesn't understand, but I know it very well."

Shi Chengyu placed the chess piece calmly and looked at Shen Boyu neither humbly nor arrogantly.

Shen Boyu was a little surprised, but he also expected this answer, so he just repeated his words, "Yes, Tangtang is still young, she doesn't understand those things."

"You are seven years apart in age. She is still a little girl with a simple mind and no scheming." Shen Boyu's words were to the point, and his meaning was obvious. Shi Chengyu had been working in the business world for many years. Shen Boyu did not believe that he was not scheming. If he just wanted to have fun, Tangtang would not be his opponent at all.

"Grandpa." Shi Chengyu's tone became serious, "I have never looked down on Tangtang."

"I like Tangtang. I know it's inappropriate to say this now because Tangtang is still young, but I can wait."

I've waited for sixteen years, so a few more years won't make a difference.

Shen Boyu looked at him, his words revealing full confidence and patience, "Yes, you can wait, but Tangtang will grow up, and she never likes anything for more than a year."

Shi Chengyu paused, "Yes, Grandpa, but Tangtang always has the right to choose with me."

No matter what choice she makes in the future, whether she is willing to accept him or continue to treat him as a brother, he will not have any complaints.

Having said this, Shen Boyu nodded slightly, "Okay, in that case, I won't persuade you any more, but Tangtang is our Shen family's spoiled baby who has grown up for more than ten years. She was spoiled at home, so she has a little temper, but she is also smart and has never suffered any hardship."

Shi Chengyu held the chess piece with his bony fingers, as if he was pondering the situation on the board, but he made his move so quickly that Shen Boyu almost couldn't keep up with his speed.

He smiled, "Grandpa, it's the same here with me. I know my limits, so please rest assured."

He didn't seem to be in a hurry at all. Shen Boyu looked at him, then at the chessboard, and the chess piece in his hand couldn't find a suitable position for a long time.

Shi Chengyu did not pick up the chess piece again, but smiled and said, "Grandpa, I'm grateful for your help."

"Hey!" Shen Boyu looked at the chessboard. Why did he give in? This was a draw at best. "You brat!"

"Grandpa, I have a meeting later." Shi Chengyu stood up and bowed slightly.

"Alright, alright, go ahead."

Shen Boyu impatiently drove the man away and looked at the chessboard for a long time before he suddenly realized that the outcome had been decided when Shi Chengyu placed the first chess piece. It was destined to be a draw.

He had set up this game early on, and from the very beginning, he had no intention of pretending to lose to him, nor did he want to beat him.

But he definitely won this round.

Shen Boyu smiled helplessly and threw the chess piece back into the jar. He couldn't help but admit that he was getting old. After all, it was time for their younger generation to take the stage. He was also somewhat fortunate that he was a friend of the Shi family. If he really ran into Shi Chengyu in the business world, he might not have a chance of winning. At best, it would be a draw.

Shen Chutang woke up around nine o'clock and sat on the bed in a daze. She felt inexplicably flustered. She first ran to Shi Chengyu's room, but didn't find anyone there. She immediately felt like crying, so she ran to the study, opened the door and ran in, "Brother Chengyu."

She threw herself into his arms with a look of grievance, her eyes half asleep and her hair disheveled. She was only wearing a nightgown, without shoes or socks, and her calves and feet were exposed.

Lin Shulang quickly turned off the camera and audio, then stood up and left the study room with his computer.

The world seemed a little strange today. All sounds were so quiet. Shen Chutang could only see Shi Chengyu's mouth moving but could not hear any sound.

She looked at him with tears in her eyes, "Brother Chengyu, I can't hear you anymore."

Shi Chengyu picked the person up and put him on his lap. He took off his earplugs and asked with a smile, "Can you hear now?"

Shen Chutang's tears were still welling up. She was stunned for a moment and said, "I heard it."

“It’s raining outside.”

"Yeah." Shi Chengyu rubbed her head, "It's okay, Brother Chengyu is here."

The nanny came in with a blanket. Shi Chengyu took it and covered her with it. He smiled and asked her, "Are you hungry? Do you want to eat?"

Shen Chutang shook his head, stretched his hand out from the blanket, pulled the corner of his clothes, and rubbed his head in his arms.

"Okay, let's sleep a little longer."
