Chapter 46: Contagious
The carpet beside the bed and Shi Chengyu's shoes were all covered with what Shen Chutang had just vomited out.
Shi Chengyu took off his shoes, asked someone to bring a new quilt to wrap her up, then picked her up and walked out barefoot, circling the living room on the top floor, patting her back as he walked. Perhaps because of a stuffy nose, her breathing was heavy in his ears, and the hot breath sprayed on his ears.
He felt guilty and distressed, wishing he was the one who was sick. He walked for more than an hour before he finally coaxed the person to sleep.
The fever had not subsided yet, and Shi Chengyu carried her back to his guest room in the Shen family. He held her in his arms and took out one of Shen Chutang's arms for the doctor to give her an injection.
Shen Chutang was asleep, but he was still coaxing her softly, "Tangtang, be good... Tangtang, be good..." he kept calling her, fearing that she would be awakened by the pain.
Shi Chengyu sat beside the bed, touching her forehead and then her cheek, holding Shen Chutang's hand with one hand. The needle was inserted into the back of her hand, which was covered with a white flat patch. Her hand was so small, usually cool, but now it was hot, while his hand was icy. From the moment he knew Shen Chutang was sick, he felt cold all over, and it has not warmed up until now.
After changing two bottles of IV drip, Shen Chutang's temperature dropped a little. Shi Chengyu tucked the quilt around her and asked the servant to stay by her side before leaving.
As soon as the door was closed, Shi Chengyu's aura changed instantly, and he asked Uncle Wen to call all the servants on the fifth floor over.
Shi Chengyu sat on the sofa in the living room and smashed a tea bowl on the ground. "Uncle Wen, all the servants on the fifth floor have been replaced."
Uncle Wen had never seen Shi Chengyu so angry since he started working at the Shen family. There was no warmth in his eyes, and they were frighteningly cold.
"Yes, Mr. Shi."
Lin Shulang was shocked, and instantly glad for the choice he made that morning. Miss Shen ranked first, and the weight of this sentence has never been light.
Shen Chutang was burned all night before being discovered. This would never have happened at the Shi family. When Shi Chengyu was at home, he would have to get up several times a night to check on Shen Chutang. When he was not at home, the servants would guard the door all night. They would never wait until Shen Chutang was burned like this before discovering her, making her suffer so much in vain.
"Chengyu, how's Tangtang?" Shen Yanheng rushed over right after getting off work at noon. As soon as he entered the door, he heard the sound of tea bowls breaking on the ground.
Shi Chengyu stood up from his chair and said, "I just got the medicine and I'm sleeping now."
Shen Yanheng nodded slightly, "Control your temper."
He had never seen Shi Chengyu so angry before, and he had never even seen him angry before.
"I'm going to go see Tangtang."
Shen Yanheng went upstairs, stood at the door and looked from a distance, but did not go in. Zhao Wenxian was pregnant now, so she had to be careful.
After Shi Chengyu scolded the servant, Shen Yanheng went upstairs and scolded Shen Sichen and Shen Sujing. His arrogance was even greater than Shi Chengyu's just now. If Uncle Wen hadn't stopped him, he would have punished them according to the family rules.
Several people had not eaten since morning. Even though the meal was ready in the kitchen, they were not in the mood to eat. Shi Chengyu ate a few bites quickly and went upstairs.
As soon as I pushed the door open, I saw Shen Chutang raising his hand. Hearing the sound of the door opening, he struggled to sit up from the bed and wanted to get out of bed.
Shi Chengyu quickly went over and held her hand, "Tangtang, be good and don't move."
Shen Chutang lay in his arms, ignoring his objection, and hugged his waist with her hands, saying slowly in a hoarse voice, "I am a patient..."
From childhood to adulthood, every time Shen Chutang was sick, no matter what she asked for, it would be met.
At this moment, a hug required her to say this. Shi Chengyu felt sad. He patted her back, and the spine that was clearly visible was a little painful. "Okay, Tangtang can do whatever you want."
"How about some food?"
Shen Chutang reacted for a while, then slowly shook his head.
"Then drink some water."
Shen Chutang was still shaking her head. Her mind was dizzy and her reactions were slow. She remembered that she was tricked into drinking medicine in the morning, so she lay in his arms and pretended not to hear it.
"Be good, just drink a little."
There was a straw in the cup. Shen Chutang seemed to think for a while before putting the straw in his mouth, taking a sip and taking a break.
She drank a glass of water and lay back in Shi Chengyu's arms. When Shen Sichen and others heard that she had woken up, they also went upstairs.
Shen Chutang had lost his usual spirit. He looked like an eggplant hit by frost, wilted and weak, with no life in his eyes.
Seeing Shen Sichen and the others coming, she just looked up blankly. Shen Sichen walked up to her and touched her head, "Tang'er, why are you so silly?"
Shen Chutang was stunned for a moment, then hid in Shi Chengyu's arms, clutching the corner of his clothes with her hands.
Shen Sichen and the other two felt distressed when they saw this, especially Shen Sujing, who blamed himself and regretted the whole morning. He thought his own brother did not take good care of people as well as Shi Chengyu did. He usually did not say anything and did not even notice that Tangtang was sick. He felt very guilty.
The servant brought the meal again. Shen Chutang was well behaved this time. She ate whatever Shi Chengyu asked her to eat, chewing slowly, eating very slowly.
After feeding her, Shi Chengyu held her, placed her head steadily on his shoulder, and patted her back gently, "Good boy Tangtang, please don't vomit, okay?"
He asked, and seemed to be extremely scared, begging and praying.
After a while, Shen Chutang nodded slightly, leaned on his shoulder and closed his eyes.
The person in his arms fell asleep again and didn't vomit. Shi Chengyu felt relieved and put the person back on the bed.
All night long, Shen Chutang's fever went up and down, up and down, until the next morning, when it finally settled down, but it was still a bit low.
The next morning before going to work, Shen Yanheng went to see Shen Chutang again. Seeing Shi Chengyu standing by the bed, he was surprised for a moment and knocked on the door.
Shi Chengyu turned his head, still holding Shen Chutang's hand, "Brother."
"How's Tangtang?"
Shi Chengyu took the thermometer and took another test. "37.5℃, still a bit feverish. I should be fine after I finish the infusion today."
"Okay, let Sichen and the others watch over it for a while, you go and have a rest."
Shi Chengyu hummed softly, then looked at Shen Chutang lying on the bed, rubbing the back of her hand. Because she had to receive intravenous drips for several days, she had an IV in her hand. Some blood had returned to the tube, and it was a bit blindingly red. The skin next to it was blue and a bit swollen.
Shen Yanheng looked at him and saw that he only agreed but did not move. He did not persuade him anymore. He sighed, turned around and went downstairs.
Shen Chutang woke up once in the morning and was as obedient as a wooden man, leaning in Shi Chengyu's arms. When the hospital staff came to draw blood, she seemed to have no fear and just stared blankly.
Shi Chengyu pressed her head into his arms to prevent her from looking at it. "It's okay, Tangtang. It will be over soon."
However, Shen Chutang did not respond. It was unclear whether she fell asleep in his arms or fainted from being too weak.
This state continued until the afternoon. Shi Chengyu no longer cared about what the doctor said about what she could eat and what she couldn't eat. As long as she could eat one more bite, he would be thankful.
He fed her the ice cream spoonful by spoonful, wiped the corner of her lips, and suddenly came over and kissed her on the cheek.
Shen Chutang took a long time to react, only to feel that they were too close, and then slowly uttered three words, "It's contagious."
Shi Chengyu hugged her and said "OK" softly without any context.
He agreed, if passing the virus to him could make her better, he would love it.
