Chapter 100 Desert Search (23) - Curse Activated

Chapter 100 Desert Search (23) - Curse Activated

Distracted like this, Si Zhong lost interest in getting the book and turned to leave with the item in his hand.

After Ning Shu "respectfully saw" the other person off, she only hoped in her heart that the other person hadn't found a place to put it, so that she would have enough time to look for the item.

After Si Zhong's figure disappeared from their sight, Ning Shu immediately pulled Wu Yi back to the secret room they had just discovered.

She was so frightened by Wu Yi that she forgot to search the secret room.

This dark room was her last hope, since she had searched everywhere else but had not found her target.

"Hurry up, turn on the flashlight and look for clues, quick!" Ning Shu instructed Wu Yi.

The two searched the dark room by the light of their flashlights.

Ning Shu felt that the so-called favored concubine's treatment was not very good. The dark room was very simple, with no murals or other burial objects.

The only thing there was a wooden coffin and a canopy placed underneath; to call it rudimentary would be an understatement.

Wu Yi pointed to the open coffin and asked Ning Shu, "Sister Ning, you haven't searched this place yet, have you?"

Ning Shu looked at Wu Yi speechlessly. That was natural; who would want to search a coffin for no reason?

She didn't want to search, so she came up with a solution.

"Wu Yi, I've been pretty good to you lately, haven't I?"

Wu Yi didn't understand why Ning Shu suddenly asked this question. Even though he knew the other person couldn't see him, he still nodded in response, "Of course."

“You said you wanted to repay me with your body, but I didn’t think that was appropriate. You also thought it was inappropriate to ask for points.” Ning Shu paused strategically.

"I've come up with a plan. You do me a favor, and we'll be even. How about it?"

Wu Yi thought this was a great idea; it didn't require any brainpower or points, and all he had to do was help her with her tasks—it was a perfect deal.

"Okay," Wu Yi agreed readily.

Ning Shu was waiting for him to say this: "Then let's start with the first thing..."

Before she could finish speaking, Wu Yi interrupted her: "Sister Ning, do you mean there's more than one thing to do?"

Ning Shu nodded confidently: "Of course, I saved your life, you should repay me tenfold, right? How can one thing show the extent of a 'tenfold' debt?"

Wu Yi sensed something was amiss, but he felt Ning Shu's words made perfect sense: "Then continue."

Ning Shu thought Wu Yi was quite skilled, and continued what he had just said:

"Could you help me look for something in here first, and see if there's anything related to my belongings? Just take it out and show it to me."

Wu Yi looked at Ning Shu pointing to the open coffin and realized what had happened earlier.

He fell silent, feeling a bit stupid, but he did as instructed anyway.

Although scared, I gritted my teeth and shone the flashlight in, then started helping Ning Shu look for things.

Wu Yi also noticed that this mummy was being treated differently; there was nothing inside except for the mummy.

He looked at Ning Shu with a somewhat complicated expression: "Sister Ning, there's... nothing inside."

After thinking for a moment, I realized I was wrong and corrected my description: "No, there was nothing inside except for the mummy."

What?! Ning Shu thought she had misheard: "What did you say?"

Wu Yi felt a little sorry for Ning Shu and repeated what he had just said. Then he saw Ning Shu's drooping face, and he was almost in tears.

Wu Yi stayed with Ning Shu the whole time and, knowing that Ning Shu hadn't found any clues, comforted him:

"Sister Ning, maybe we didn't search other areas thoroughly enough. Shall we go back and search again?"

Ning Shuke wasn't so optimistic, but this was the last resort.

At this moment, they felt movement on the wall outside the dark room. Even though there was no earthquake, they felt strange noises coming from the other side of the wall.

The noise was a bit strange, as if something was trying to break free from the wall.

Ning Shu and Wu Yi involuntarily looked towards the hole in the wall, and then their eyes widened in surprise.

The reliefs on the outer walls seem to have come alive, constantly twisting and turning as if trying to break free from the walls; some have already escaped.

Ning Shu realized that they weren't reliefs, but living mummies, just embedded in the wall.

The reason it looks thin is because when it was made into a relief, most of the body was hidden in the wall, so people thought it was just a relief.

Those reliefs that had already broken free were actually going to grab the weapons from the knife rack.

What terrified Ning Shu and his companions even more was that the two rows of stone statues that were originally arranged in the middle had also come to life.

Their originally stiff bodies became flexible through constant adjustments, and then they moved in unison toward the altar, as if they were in a hurry to do something.

Then, various sounds came from the altar, a mixture of screams and cries, rising and falling.

Those sounds all seemed to be the shouts of players; it was probably the statues chasing after them.

Ning Shu's first thought was "the Pharaoh's curse"—a million dollars, and they're already at it so fast?!

Have all the patterns on that stone table been collected? Is the curse activated?

Or perhaps she guessed wrong, and Wu Yi's items weren't on the stone table.

Ning Shu suddenly noticed that the reliefs were also moving slowly. Their movements were not as agile as the stone statues, but they were still quite eerie to look at.

They seemed oblivious to Ning Shu and the others, wandering around on their own.

Ning Shu suddenly remembered that there was a mummy behind them. What if it sat up in a moment?

She turned her head immediately, and the flashlight beam shone on the coffin: "Wu Yi, go check if it's still there."

Ning Shu was afraid, so he ordered Wu Yi around. Wu Yi was also afraid, but he obeyed.

Because he was tall, he didn't have to walk all the way to the coffin to see it; he only took two steps and the light shone on it, and he could see what was inside.

Wu Yi: "It's still there."

Ning Shu: "Is there any sign of it moving?"

Wu Yi stared at it for a while, then shook his head: "No."

This was unusual; it didn't move at all. She had assumed the other party would also revive.

Ning Shu glanced outside and said to Wu Yi, "We shouldn't stay here any longer. Let's go out first."

When people encounter danger, their first reaction is naturally to run for their lives, so Ning Shu felt that they should run away.

Unexpectedly, as soon as she stepped out of the hole in the wall, the reliefs that were swaying outside suddenly came toward her.

Although the movements are still slow, it would be terrifying if it were aimed at me.

Ning Shu was so frightened that she pulled her foot back, and then she saw the reliefs continue to sway aimlessly as if they had lost their target.

So this place is...protected? They won't come this way, right?

This is both good news and bad news.

The good news is that they are safe for now; the bad news is that they can't leave this place, so what's the point of doing any more missions?
