Chapter 11 Red Brick Factory (10) - Sculpture Resurrection
They had lingered upstairs for a while, and as they were about to go downstairs, Ning Shu suddenly called out to them.
She was still standing on the stair treads, looking at the sculpture closest to her, and said, "Look at this sculpture, it's very crudely made, it looks like they just slapped a lump of mud on it and scribbled out a shape and that was it."
“But the carving here is very exquisite,” Cheng Chuan said, pointing to a sculpture on the other side of the stairs. “Even the individual strands of hair are carved to the same thickness as real ones.”
“That one over there is one too,” Wu Yi said, pointing to another sculpture a few rougher ones away.
They carefully examined the sculptures near their section and discovered a common feature.
The exquisitely carved sculptures vary in height and appearance, reflecting different aesthetic tastes; some are beautiful women and handsome men, while others are pot-bellied, greasy middle-aged men.
Although those rough sculptures were hard to discern, they were all similar in size and shape, suggesting that the designers intended to create similar products.
"Is there such a big difference in aesthetic taste?" Ning Shu found it a bit strange.
Normal understanding: those rough sculptures are just molds that have not yet been carved, while the fine ones are custom-made sculptures that have already been carved.
Abnormal interpretation: The rough sculpture is unknown, while the fine sculpture may be a real person transformed.
"Let's go, just like before, quickly get into the passage." Cheng Chuan also had some bad feelings, but there was no point in saying more.
They stepped onto the ground one after the other, and without caring whether there was any change in the ground, they started running like crazy.
The moment their feet touched the ground, the rough sculptures began to crumble and crack.
"There are two passages, left or right?" Wu Yi, who was running at the front, asked.
"Left." Cheng Chuan said decisively.
No sooner had they finished speaking than a winged creature landed directly in front of them, right in the path of their path.
The three of them stopped in time, stumbled a bit, and Ning Shu, because of her slower reaction, bumped into the person in front of her. The three of them were now squeezed together.
What the heck?!
The three of them felt a sudden chill run down their spines.
When they saw what the thing in front of them looked like, they fell silent. Should they be terrified of this monster that had inexplicably come looking for them, or should they be amazed by its appearance?
This thing has bat-shaped wings, a snake's head, and a dog's body—basically, a four-legged creature. Is it cosplaying the Classic of Mountains and Seas?
I've never heard of this combination except in the Classic of Mountains and Seas.
The monster charged toward them as soon as it landed.
"Scatter!" Cheng Chuan roared.
Wu Yi was a parkour enthusiast, so his reaction time was faster than most people's. As soon as he saw the monster rushing towards them, he disappeared and headed straight for the passage on the left.
Ning Shu saw that the monster seemed to be moving to the left, so she instinctively ran to the right. When she turned around, she realized that she and the other two people were going in the opposite direction, and she knew that she had made a mistake.
As I was about to turn around, I caught a glimpse of a sculpture next to me slowly starting to move.
She slowed down, took a closer look, and wow, it really didn't disappoint her.
Most of the sculptures are "restless," some of them have already broken free from the "cement slag" covering them, and their full appearance is revealed with a shake.
They all look bizarre and are a large-scale exhibition of strange animals from the Classic of Mountains and Seas. The only similarity is that they are about the same size.
Holy crap!
Ning Shu started to speed up; she felt her heart pounding wildly. Faster, faster, faster, the passage on the left!
She tried to go around it, but several sculptures in front of her had already been "activated" and were rushing straight towards her.
If she insists on going left, she will end up in a "two-way run" with them, and will head directly towards the right passage away from the monsters.
However, her speed was not particularly impressive, and soon several monsters caught up with her, aiming to strike her back with their claws.
Ning Shu didn't know where her skills came from; she saw the shadow of the monster closest to her on the ground.
The shadow clearly showed something like a monster's outstretched claws, and she knew it was attacking her, so she immediately lay down in front of it.
This movement allowed her to successfully evade the monster's attack, but she knew she would inevitably be injured or even killed, because lying on the ground, she couldn't possibly dodge all of its attacks continuously.
"Hiss~" The monster behind him suddenly let out a piercing sound.
Ning Shu felt like the sound was piercing her ears, so the sound stopped.
"What are you still lying there for? Get up and walk!" Wu Yi appeared beside her at some point and helped her up.
After Ning Shu stood up, she looked back and wow, the scene was quite spectacular.
The small sandstorm swept towards the charging monster, tearing it to shreds wherever it went.
There was no blood; what fell out were things that looked like hardened cement blocks, though their shapes were somewhat indescribable.
Perhaps the sandstorm was too powerful, because the monsters behind didn't dare to charge forward anymore.
They seemed to want to bypass the sandstorm and attack Ning Shu and the others, but they could see that the small sandstorm kept hovering in front of them, unable to find an opening.
The monsters want to unite and fight against the small sandstorm.
Ning Shu suddenly thought of something: "Wu Yi, let's hurry over to the passage. Maybe if we leave here, they will stop chasing us."
After saying that, he turned to the small sandstorm and said, "Cheng Chuan, let's go to the passage on the right. You come over here in a bit!"
The last sentence was shouted at the top of his lungs, as if worried the other person wouldn't hear him. After saying it, he grabbed Wu Yi's hand and they ran together toward the right passage.
It wasn't that she didn't want to listen to Cheng Chuan and choose the left passage, but rather that they were too far from the left passage.
Without knowing which passage was safe, there was little difference between choosing one and the other, so she simply pulled Wu Yi to stand at the entrance of the right passage.
"Cheng Chuan, come here!"
Wu Yi shouted at the top of his lungs.
The small sandstorm seemed to have heard them and gradually moved towards the passage where they were.
Ning Shu and Wu Yi both stepped back a few steps into the passage to make room for Xiao Shabao.
When the monsters saw the small sandstorm moving backward, they also moved forward, seemingly unwilling to give up on them.
But when the small sandstorms transformed into human form and stood inside the passageway entrance, they seemed to lose their target instantly, looking around in all directions.
"Just as I thought."
At this moment, Ning Shu and Wu Yi walked to the entrance of the passage and stood side by side with Cheng Chuan, looking at these monsters.
"Look," Wu Yi said, pointing to the monster at the very back.
After a moment of confusion, the monsters actually walked to the empty base of a nearby sculpture and stood on it.
Then, a cement-like liquid fell from the ceiling and covered the monsters.
The monsters were doing all sorts of movements, like they were taking a bath, with the goal of completely covering their bodies with the liquid.
Then fold your wings back up, and if you don't have wings, curl them into a ball as much as possible. Finally, squat down and slowly harden them.
The other monsters behave in the same way.
