Chapter 58 Reversal Middle School (7) - New Member
The turning point came on the third day after the exam, when Cheng Chuan encountered Graffiti Guy again.
It seems that Graffiti Guy was surrounded by several people, and Cheng Chuan was hiding in a corner eavesdropping on their conversation.
The graffiti artist humbly begged the men in front of him to let him go:
"Brothers, I only learned this method by overhearing other people, so I can't guarantee its authenticity."
"If you suffer a loss, I suffer a loss too, it's the same for everyone. I didn't do this to cheat you; besides, what would I gain from doing this?"
One of the players said viciously:
"You're the only one here with super hearing, so who knows what you've heard?"
Maybe you already knew this method wouldn't work, but you still made us try it. The big exam is next week, what do you suggest we do?
Another player chimed in: "That's right, maybe you heard there might be a limit on the number of spots, so you're just trying to fool us."
After saying that, he actually started fighting with him. Graffiti Guy obviously had no ability to resist and just took the beating.
The graffiti artist practically knelt down before them, pleading, "I really didn't, please, don't hit me."
Cheng Chuan couldn't stand it anymore and stepped in to save the graffiti guy.
His abilities were somewhat extraordinary, and the mob that had been attacking him quickly dispersed, leaving behind threats to teach Graffiti Bro a lesson.
Graffiti Bro was beaten black and blue, but he was still very grateful to Cheng Chuan, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to go back unscathed today.
Cheng Chuan looked at him and asked, "Your innate skill is having super hearing? I won't ask you for a life-saving grace, but tell me about your innate skill."
Graffiti Guy's inner thoughts: You know how to take advantage of a crisis.
But she still pretended to be very grateful: "Actually, it's just that my hearing is a little more sensitive than others."
Cheng Chuan wasn't so easily fooled and asked directly, "How do I use the sensitive method?"
Graffiti Guy hesitated, unsure whether he should tell the truth.
Cheng Chuan noticed his hesitation and warned him with a hint of threat, "I saved you this time, but there's no guarantee someone will save you next time."
Graffiti Guy was eventually convinced. He knew he couldn't go back to his original "organization" and needed to join a new one.
The person in front of me seems very powerful; he knocked those people down with just one move.
After much deliberation, Graffiti Guy said, "I can tell you, but if I want to join you, you have to protect me and help me get through the game."
That's a bit too much; even they can't guarantee they'll be able to pass the level.
Cheng Chuan confessed truthfully: "I don't want to lie to you. I can protect you, but I'm not confident about passing the level because we haven't found any clues yet."
Graffiti Guy: "I know some things, but I don't know if they count as clues."
Cheng Chuan asked him to speak, and after listening, he felt it was a new direction, so he brought the person directly to Ning Shu and Wu Yi.
After hearing this, Ning Shu felt it was a breakthrough.
The four of them went to the school library together on the fourth day after their second mock exam.
Graffiti Guy pointed to the spot in front of him:
"I used to hide here and eavesdrop on other people's conversations. The library has a particularly good location; I can hear what's going on in the administration office and the classrooms."
Ning Shu asked with some surprise, "Can it be heard over the entire range?"
Graffiti Guy nodded.
"Wow, that's a bit extreme!" Ning Shu exclaimed.
This school is quite big, part of it is a playground, but players generally don't go there unless they have to.
The spot that Graffiti Guy chose is really good; he can basically gather a lot of information about players and NPCs.
Thinking of this, Ning Shu suddenly stared at the graffiti guy, and after staring for a while, the graffiti guy felt a little creeped out.
He turned to ask Brother Chuan for help, only to find that Brother Chuan was also staring at him, which made him even more uneasy.
No, he hasn't even started to play a role yet, and the other party already wants to discard him after he's done his bidding? He was stunned after hearing Ning Shu's question and broke out in a cold sweat.
"You didn't overhear our conversation about the method of having someone else take the exam for you with your former teammates, did you?"
Ning Shu gave him a look that said, "If you dare not tell the truth, I'll kill you." Graffiti Bro could only silently admit it and earnestly offer his excuses:
"Sister, I was at a loss at the time. When I heard your suggestions, I thought they made a lot of sense, so I told them."
I'm too weak to threaten the NPCs myself; I can only rely on them for help.
Ning Shu: "This method seems to be used by many players, could it be that you..."
The graffiti artist quickly denied it, his hands practically turning into windshield wipers:
"No, no, I didn't say that. My previous teammates weren't stupid either; it was just a coincidence."
Other players probably thought the same thing before you did, but they didn't say it out loud, and they weren't as quick as you.
Some players also used their skills or items to discover that you were threatening the top three NPCs.
They were wary of your abilities and didn't want any conflict with you, so they found other top-ranked NPCs to take the exam for them.
That explains why everyone acted in such unison; now I understand.
Ning Shu suddenly realized something: "Is someone eavesdropping on or monitoring us right now?"
When Graffiti Guy was asked this question, he listened intently for a while, then shook his head to indicate that he hadn't noticed anything.
"However, I can't be entirely sure that if some people use their talents or items to avoid it, I won't be able to detect them."
Ning Shu: "It doesn't matter, as long as most of the harm can be avoided."
After they finished speaking, Cheng Chuan reminded them, "Tell me what to do next."
According to Graffiti Bro, he suspects that Zeng Shaobo has a way to pass the level, and this method seems to have been learned from an NPC in the library.
Cheng Chuan looked at Ning Shu: "What do you think about this?"
Ning Shu: "I think there should be a hidden mission here, the question is how to trigger it."
Cheng Chuan: "We'll see if we try. Let's split up and look for clues."
The two split up and searched the library separately by area, while Wu Yi and Tuya went to catch Zeng Shaobo.
Cheng Chuan took the elevator directly to the top floor and went down, while Ning Shu went up from the bottom.
On the first floor, she saw the work station in the center of the library, where staff members were most likely to issue tasks.
She started flirting with the staff, but they didn't want to talk to her since she wasn't asking to borrow books or for any other consulting services.
She explored every area where staff members were, touching everything she could find, but she couldn't trigger any missions.
Was she mistaken? She searched her entire floor but found no clues whatsoever.
She got tired of walking and decided to take the elevator down. As a result, she discovered that the library actually had a basement level.
Maybe it's a hidden Easter egg? I have to check out this map.
Ning Shu pressed the button for the basement level without hesitation.
After the elevator doors opened, the interior was dark, with rows of bookshelves lining the basement level.
The lights were dim, and Ning Shu, thinking she shouldn't miss it, touched around and found her hands covered in dust.
These bookshelves haven't been maintained for a long time; they're covered in dust.
Ning Shu was unsure of her own thoughts. Could there be clues in a place like this?
"What book are you looking for, young man?"
The sudden sound startled Ning Shu. She looked over and saw a male classmate standing in a relatively dark place.
In the dim light, she could only make out a blurry outline of the other person, and the atmosphere made him seem like a boss from a dungeon.
She suddenly stammered, "I... I wanted to find an old book. My teacher said I could come here to look around."
"Do you need help finding it?"
So enthusiastic? This has Ning Shu stumped. Should she... ask him for help? Is this a way to trigger a quest?
No, the task should be triggered by him asking her to do a task, not the other way around. That's not right.
"No need, I can find it myself." Ning Shu thought for a moment and then declined the other party's suggestion.
After being rejected, the other person disappeared into the bookshelf without making a fuss.
Ning Shu looked around first, but finally approached the male classmate and decided to test him.
