An Yi's mouth was as annoying as ever, but this time it pleased Jin He, and she was in a much better mood the whole way. Yang Jia Hui saw that An Yi was really a stubborn rock and didn't want to keep trying to win him over, so he affectionately linked arms with Jin He and walked forward.
As Jin He walked, he realized something was wrong.
They didn't come to their uncle's strawberry farm, but to the village chief's.
The entire village relies on strawberry cultivation for a living. The village chief's strawberry garden is the largest, but his uncle's is not bad either. Jin He glanced down at Yang Jia Hui.
Yang Jiahui handed him a basket and smiled without changing his expression, "Brother, what are you standing there for?"
It was clearly not the time to talk about this in front of the camera. Jin He took the basket and went into the strawberry field. He was quite familiar with this place. He could come and help when the village chief was busy before. The village chief would invite him to stay for a meal and sometimes give him twenty yuan.
"Xiao He!"
Shen Duoyuan squatted down in the field not far away and waved to him: "Come on over, this strawberry is huge!"
Jin He carried the basket over and saw Yang Jiahui still following closely behind. He stopped and said, "Jiahui, you can stop here. I know the way back."
“I thought I could come and help.” Yang Jiahui touched his nose. “Besides, I haven’t seen you in a long time, and I miss you a lot.”
Jin He wanted to laugh when he heard him say that, but the live broadcast camera was right there, so he could only reply, "They'll feel uncomfortable seeing strangers here. Listen to me, I'll come see you after the show is over."
Jin He had already said all that, so if Yang Jiahui lingered any longer, it would seem a bit shameless. However, he was clearly unwilling to leave just like that, so he said, "Mom said you guys should stay for dinner tonight, An Yi, Lin Nian, Chen, Jiang, please stay for dinner tonight!"
Lin Nian felt a little strange, but didn't say anything, just politely said, "Okay."
He immediately turned around and asked his assistant to buy some milk and fruit and send them over. After all, the production team hadn't expected them to stay for dinner before they arrived, so they only gave his aunt and her family money to book the entire place. Since they were staying at their elders' house for dinner, and for two meals, it would be unreasonable not to send them something.
Jin He didn't say anything, and squatted down next to Lin Nian to pick strawberries with him.
"We've picked so many, we can take them home and make strawberry jam, which we can spread on bread in the morning." Jiang Xiubai had a small basket slung over his arm, containing only a few large and appealing strawberries that he had carefully selected.
Shen Duoyuan sauntered over to him, casually took two pieces from his basket and stuffed them into his mouth, only to be met with an angry glare from Jiang Xiubai.
"Does Xiaohe like strawberries?" Lin Nian asked when she saw that Jinhe hadn't eaten a single bite. "Why aren't you eating them? They're so fresh, just picked."
Jin He shook his head.
He's so sick of this stuff he's about to throw up.
Every year when strawberry season is almost over and the strawberries in the fields are too ripe to sell, Jin He would have strawberries for breakfast, lunch, and dinner...
Every year around that time, he suspects he's practically pickled in strawberries.
"People say that whatever your family sells, your kids won't like to eat it, because they'll probably get tired of it."
“I have a friend whose family owns a hot pot restaurant, so I never eat hot pot when I go out to eat, because I’m already tired of the smell of hot pot broth at home.”
Jin He's hands moved quickly, and the small basket of strawberries was soon empty, neatly stacked in the basket, looking large, red, and very tempting. He prepared to stand up and pick more, but perhaps because he had been squatting for too long, when he suddenly stood up, a layer of black mist suddenly appeared before his eyes.
An Yi watched as Jin He suddenly stood up, then froze in place, swaying back and forth a couple of steps. He threw the strawberry basket forward and reached out to catch Jin He as she stumbled forward.
"What's wrong?" Lin Nian noticed Jin He's movements and looked up to see Jin He leaning against An Yisheng with a pale face and pale lips, looking very listless.
“It’s rising too fast,” Jin He replied.
However, if it were just postural hypotension, Jin He probably wouldn't have been dizzy for so long. He had been supporting An Yi for a while and the dark fog in front of his eyes still hadn't dissipated. He suspected that he might have low blood sugar again.
Jin He was a little angry that he didn't come, angry at his useless body that always gave up.
"Sit here for a while." An Yi escorted Jin He to the edge of the field, where there was a plastic sheet for them to rest. Jin He didn't stand on ceremony and sat down when told to, otherwise it would be even more embarrassing if he couldn't hold back and fainted there.
"Do you need something to eat?" Lin Nian squatted down next to Jin He, examining his snow-white lips. She subconsciously reached into her pocket; all the food was in the car, which was parked quite far away. It would definitely be too late to make a round trip.
But they didn't have any food with them.
Jin He, her face pale, said, "You guys go play, don't worry about me, I'll just grab a couple of strawberries to eat."
It's funny, but the fact that he can get himself hypoglycemic in a place where food is everywhere is quite an achievement. He just doesn't like strawberries, not that he'd spit them out like he would meat.
So it's still okay to eat some as a temporary measure.
Jin He was worried that Lin Nian and the others would have to worry, so she grabbed two strawberries from Lin Nian's basket, blew off the dust, put them in her mouth, chewed them a couple of times, and swallowed them: "See, I can eat something. I'll come find you guys when I feel a little better."
The show couldn't be cancelled, after all, fans didn't come to watch the live stream just to see them resting on the ground. As the team leader, Lin Nian couldn't ignore these issues, so she led Shen Duoyuan and Jiang Xiubai to a more distant place.
Jin He was still feeling a bit dizzy sitting there. He could have eaten some fruit to tide him over; even though he didn't like strawberries, he could have just swallowed them.
However, perhaps because he hadn't fully recovered from his previous illness, or perhaps because he was overwhelmed by the smell of meat from the whole table at lunch, he really had no appetite. He had already forced down one strawberry, which was his limit, and he was starting to feel acid reflux. If he ate any more, he would probably vomit.
In July and August, the sun is still incredibly scorching. Although they are currently in a greenhouse, and they sometimes try to cool it down to prevent the strawberries from overheating, the greenhouse is still stuffy and poorly ventilated, causing some dizziness. Jin He sat with his head down, hugging his knees, his forehead resting on his knees. If he doesn't feel better soon, he might have to ask the production team for help.
Just as he was in a daze, Jin He felt a crackling sound coming from the plastic sheet next to him. He turned his head and saw An Yi standing in front of the plastic sheet, holding a backpack with the opening facing down. He shook it and dumped all the food onto the plastic sheet.
Jelly, yogurt, almond chips, cookies... they had everything. It looked like they had scavenged everyone's stock on the bus.
Running under the sun, his face was flushed red from the heat, and he was drenched in sweat. He tossed his backpack aside and said, "Eat up."
