Jin He was feeling unwell, and An Yi could tell he was upset, though he thought he was being very discreet.
An Yi could roughly guess what Jin He was sad about. His body could be described as broken. He couldn't eat or sleep well, and he couldn't do any strenuous exercise. The only thing Jin He could do was play Candy Crush on An Yi's tablet or read books and watch movies. He originally thought that raising a kitten would make him happier, but the kitten was also given away because of his poor health.
He must be feeling extremely frustrated right now.
An Yi went to the dressing room to pick out an outfit for Jin He to wear to the party tomorrow. When he came back, he found Jin He sitting in front of the bay window playing with a cat toy. All the toys he bought for the cat had been taken away by Jiang Xiubai. The cat toy was probably left in the room and had not been discovered.
An Yi walked over and sat down next to Jin He, reaching out his hand and saying, "I want to hug you."
Jin He approached with a cat toy in her hand, and An Yi pulled her into his arms, lifting her slightly so she sat on his lap. He often used this position to hold Jin He, but only when she was feeling unwell, such as when she was coughing and struggling to breathe in the middle of the night. He would use this position to rub her chest, and because An Yi was tall, it felt like he was completely enveloping Jin He in his arms, which gave her a great sense of security.
"Why are you still holding this?" An Yi reached out and grasped Jin He's hand. "You don't want to send the kitten away? Then why did you agree so readily in the first place? We could have actually figured out a solution together."
"Didn't I promise you I would get better soon?"
An Yi paused for a moment after hearing this, tightened his grip on Jin He's arm, and said in a dry voice, "You're so obedient."
“I’ve already promised you,” Jin He said. “Sometimes I still think, if only I hadn’t worked so hard when I was younger, I wouldn’t be able to do anything now.”
“You had no choice back then,” An Yi said. “Even now, you can’t deny yourself back then; you had no choice.”
“But I have nothing left now,” Jin He said. “I couldn’t keep my mother-in-law either.”
When did your mother-in-law leave?
“The year before last,” Jin He said, “I came back to see her off on her final journey. This poor old lady left nothing behind, and none of her children cared for her. I still didn’t want to see her like that. After all, if it weren’t for her, Xiao Miao and I would have starved to death long ago.”
"Yes, I understand you."
"Later, when she was leaving, she gave me her dowry bracelet," Jin He said. "She said that her family was poor before, and they had sold everything that could be sold as part of her dowry, leaving only this bracelet, which she originally intended to take to her coffin."
"Xiaohe, you are a good child. I'm sorry to have burdened you. This bracelet isn't worth much. If you still want it, give it to your loved one."
"Where's the bracelet?"
"I gave it to Xiao Miao."
An Yi: "..."
"You really don't leave anything for yourself."
"I'm not getting married, so why would I keep the bracelet?"
"Aren't you going to marry me?" An Yi held out his hand, revealing a rice seedling tattoo on his wrist. "Look at this wrist, it's so bare, isn't something missing?"
That bracelet was a very old style, made of silver with carvings and inlaid with jade. Its emotional value outweighed its economic value. Jin He could hardly imagine An Yi going on stage to sing and raising his arm to reveal a bracelet that looked like something his grandmother would wear.
"Stop messing around, okay?"
"Making a scene? What scene did I make a scene about? Did you never intend to marry me in the first place? You know I've been with you since I was twenty, you can't just leave me without a proper status..."
Jin He: "..."
“I don’t care. I’ll buy Miao bracelets, anklets, and a gold necklace for her wedding. I’ll give them to her as heavily as possible. You get that bracelet back. I want to wear it.”
He'd only been acting normal for a few days when his princess-like temper flared up again. Jin He simply didn't want to talk to him, closing her eyes as if she didn't want to communicate.
"Did you hear me? I want it. It's what your mother-in-law left for her future granddaughter-in-law. You can't give it to anyone else."
Jin He: "..."
Jin He was still feeling down when An Yi interrupted her, and she forgot everything else. All she could think about was An Yi's "I want it, I want it, I want it..." Jin He couldn't take it anymore: "Ugh, I know, I'll get it back for you when we meet tomorrow, okay? Granddaughter-in-law!"
“Alright then.” An Yi was overjoyed at having successfully secured a title, and he kissed Jin He’s lips. “Then don’t be sad now. Once you’re better, we can get another one. You can keep this cat toy for it.”
Jin He lowered her head and shook the cat toy in her hand, and the bell made a crisp sound.
"Is that okay? You can choose a kitten to take home, and you can name it."
"That's called Three Dogs."
"Three dogs?" An Yi was still a little confused. "If there are two dogs and three dogs, then who is the big dog?"
Jin He looked at him without saying a word, the meaning of which was self-evident.
The dinner was scheduled for noon the next day. At An Yi's suggestion, Jin He chose a decent restaurant that mainly served authentic Haicheng cuisine. However, Jin He's taste had been spoiled by her neighbors, and she was clearly not interested in the menu. She let An Yi order the dishes and even asked Jin Miao about the other party's elderly relatives' preferences.
"Uncle likes to drink a little alcohol, but Auntie... Auntie doesn't like strong flavors."
"You like drinking, huh? Red wine or baijiu? Baijiu... then let's get a bottle of Moutai, I'll keep you company, Uncle..."
An Yi covered his mouth and coughed: "Cough cough."
"An Yi, have a couple of drinks with your uncle."
"An Yi is going too?" Jin Miao asked on the other end of the phone. "So how do you plan to introduce An Yi to them?"
"We're... friends."
"Who would invite friends to a dinner party like this? Wait, let me ask them."
Jin He was about to ask Jin Miao what she wanted to ask when she heard the brat yelling at the top of her lungs, "Auntie! Can my brother bring his boyfriend?"
Jin He: "Pfft!"
"Brother, Auntie said it's okay."
"You brat." Jin He glanced at An Yi, who was changing clothes, and whispered while covering her mouth, "You kicked open my closet door. Aren't you afraid the other person will have a problem with you if they find out?"
"What's the big deal? Xiao He likes me. What does it have to do with your situation?"
Hearing Jin Miao's confidence, Jin He couldn't quite describe the feeling in her heart. She just felt that this little girl seemed to have really grown up.
"Oh, don't worry, I've already prepared everything. Your aunt and uncle don't look down on you because of your low education level. This shouldn't be something to be looked down on. They think you're amazing. After all, there aren't many people who become famous at such a young age."
"But now I..."
"Are you retired yet? You're already living a retired life in your twenties, decades ahead of us!"
Jin He: "..."
This little girl is way too open-minded!
