An Yi felt increasingly uneasy as he listened to Lin Nian's words. There might only be one person in the world like Jin He who made him both hate her to the core and feel heartbroken for her.
"Are you leaving him home alone? Won't something happen?"
“The doctor and Aunt Shu are both at home,” An Yi said. “They’ll call me if anything happens.”
The phone rang as soon as he finished speaking. An Yi jumped in fright, pulled out his phone, and saw that the contact was Jin He.
"Hey, what's wrong?"
"Why aren't you home yet?" Jin He's voice sounded a little weak, and An Yi immediately sat up straight.
"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
"No." Jin He picked at the medicine bowl in her hand; the Chinese medicine inside was as black as ink. "I was just asking."
"If you're okay, eat well and take your medicine. I'm going abroad soon, so take good care of yourself at home."
"So you're not coming back?"
"I'll be going back to China in a few days," An Yi said. "Is there anything else?"
"Aren't you going to come back to get your luggage or passport or something?" Jin He opened her mouth, then continued, "The medicine is a bit bitter, could you bring me a piece of cake when you come back..."
"I'll have my assistant go," An Yi said tactfully, feeling that now wasn't a good time to meet. "I'll send you a cake later."
"Okay, then I'll wait for you."
As soon as he hung up the phone, Jin He put down the medicine bowl. Aunt Shu asked him from the side, "What did Mr. An say?"
He said he'd be back in a bit.
"Oh, is that so?" Aunt Shu said, sitting down next to Jin He. "Child, don't overthink it. I watched him grow up. Although he has a bit of a temper, he's a good boy. He really likes you."
Lin Nian said this to him, and now Aunt Shu is saying the same thing.
Jin He covered the warm medicine bowl with both hands and said with a wry smile, "Of course I know."
"Mr. An, has he mentioned his family situation to you?"
Jin He shook her head: "He never talks to me about these things."
An Yi's family is a rare case where the woman is the breadwinner and the man stays at home. Her mother runs a very large business, but her father is just a university teacher who teaches literature. The two have contrasting personalities, one fiery and the other gentle, but they are surprisingly very loving.
“Mr. An’s personality is more like his father’s,” Aunt Shu whispered to him. “You see, he seems like a firecracker on the surface, but he is actually very gentle and sensitive inside.”
Jin He glanced at her but didn't say anything.
It can only be said that An Yi is only gentle in front of him occasionally; most of the time, he is a highly flammable and explosive person.
“When I worked at the An family, Mr. An always taught An Yi: ‘Treat the people and things you like as if they were precious treasures.’” Aunt Shu said, “Mr. An has always regarded his father’s words as the golden rule. It’s a deeply ingrained concept formed since childhood. He has liked you for so long, and seeing you like this now, he must be very anxious.”
The medicine bowl in her hand gradually cooled, but the bitter smell was still so strong. Jin He slowly spoke: "But I treat him like a precious treasure, isn't he happy?"
"But Mr. An also told An Yi before that you should love yourself before loving others."
But……
Jin He opened her mouth but ultimately said nothing. Not long after, the doorbell rang, and An Yi's assistant walked in with a box of sliced cake, smiling broadly: "Boss, you wanted some cake? I asked you to bring it back."
Where are the others?
"Teacher An is busy right now."
"Hmm." Jin He let him in. "Weren't you coming in to get his luggage and passport?"
"Yes!" The assistant quickly went inside and changed into slippers. "Excuse me, Teacher Xiaohe."
Jin He didn't say anything, but turned around, went inside, put the cake in the refrigerator, finished the slightly chilled medicine in the bowl, and sat on the sofa watching her assistant leave with her suitcase. She felt very aggrieved, but couldn't quite put her finger on what was causing her frustration.
Even though no one was bullying him, he still felt sad.
"How many days will he be away on his business trip?"
“The boss didn’t say,” the assistant added. “He said he hopes you can calm down and think things through.”
"What do you want to understand?"
Do you understand the saying "love yourself before you love others"?
Jin He felt that he liked himself enough already. He really didn't understand the scope of this concept, and he didn't have a literature professor father to teach him.
He didn't want to make things difficult for such a junior assistant, so he said, "Thank you for your hard work. You can go back now."
"Okay."
The door was slowly closed, leaving Jin He alone in the house again. He watched Aunt Shu busy in the kitchen, while he remained idly lounging on the sofa, feeling utterly exhausted.
I want to sleep.
"Mr. Xiaohe, would you like to go back to your room to sleep?"
When Jin He was woken up by Aunt Shu, she found that he had fallen asleep on the sofa. Aunt Shu, noticing that he didn't look well, said worriedly, "Should we have a doctor take a look at you?"
Jin He shook his head and said, "I really can't understand why he got so angry."
He doesn't even go home anymore.
"Mr. An isn't angry; he likes you very much."
Jin He got up, wanting to go back to his room to sleep, but as soon as he stood up, he felt a churning in his stomach. He covered his mouth with a "smack" and before he could find a trash can or a bathroom, he vomited all over the floor.
He vomited up all the Chinese medicine he had just drunk, and his mouth was very bitter. Aunt Shu quickly helped Jin He sit down. Poor Jin He felt nauseous and uncomfortable, and his heart was pounding. As soon as he sat down, he folded himself up and clutched his stomach tightly.
The doctor came over, gave him some medicine to take, and then asked Aunt Shu to help him back to his room to lie down. "He needs to brew another bowl of Chinese medicine."
"Okay." Aunt Shu nodded in agreement, but said with a worried look, "Oh dear, you're in such poor health, how can you manage like this?"
The doctor shook his head. Sometimes, damage to the body's organ functions is truly irreversible. Jin He overworked himself too much when he was young, and no matter how well he takes care of himself in the future, he will never be the same as a normal person.
The doctor sighed, "And of all times, Mr. An Yi isn't here."
"Call him and tell him." Aunt Shu quickly took out her phone. "How could we not inform him about something like this? I'll call him right now."
After explaining the situation to An Yi, Aunt Shu calmly went to the living room to clean up the mess. Then she ran to the kitchen to brew Chinese medicine for Jin He. An Yi returned very quickly. Before the medicine was even finished brewing, she heard the front door being suddenly pulled open. An Yi didn't even have time to change her shoes before she ran upstairs in a few quick steps.
These young people...
Aunt Shu closed the door and poured the thick, black medicine into a bowl with a smile on her face.
