Chapter 22 Jiuyi City (Part 6) They kissed with an air of unwavering resolve...
A woman's skull rolled to Shi Xianxue's feet. She snapped out of her dazed state and looked down to see the lantern woman's unseeing face. She gasped and kicked the skull away.
Wu Xiutang raised his hand to wipe away the black blood from the corner of his mouth. The blood spread down the back of his hand and into the gaps between his fingers. He frowned and glanced at it before handing her the silver-white longsword.
Seeing that Shi Xianxue didn't move, he said in his usual disdainful tone, "Get up. Do you want to spend the night here?"
Shi Xianxue ignored him, standing up as if she were air and about to walk forward. Wu Xiutang frowned deeply, wanting to pull her back, but as if she had eyes in the back of her head, she slipped away like an eel just as his hand was about to touch her arm, and Wu Xiutang once again missed his grasp.
He growled angrily, "Shi Xianxue!"
Shi Xianxue was harder to catch than a pig during the Lunar New Year when she got angry. Hearing someone dare to yell at her, she couldn't stand it anymore. She turned around and strode over to Wu Xiutang. Her tone was full of energy, showing no sign of injury. She looked up at him and shouted, "What! You think you're going to hit me?"
She stood on tiptoe and brought her face close, "Come on, hit me! Kill me! Come on!"
Shi Xianxue's eyes were bright, as if they were blazing. The blood on her forehead had scabbed over. Her hair was disheveled, one of her neat braids had come undone, and her beautiful green hair ribbon was nowhere to be seen. She was unusually energetic.
"Why are you throwing a tantrum? I'm here to save you." Seeing that she could still argue with him, he figured it wasn't anything serious. As he relaxed, the itch in his throat became increasingly unbearable. He forced himself to suppress it, not wanting to argue with her here. "Come with me."
Shi Xianxue retorted, "I'm not leaving! You'd be happier if I died here! Yes, you came to save me. But why don't you mention that you were the one who threw me in here, put me in danger, and then rescued me? Should I kneel and kowtow to you three times and be eternally grateful?"
Wu Xiutang was so angry with her that he almost vomited blood on the spot, but he really didn't have the strength to argue anymore. The poison was rampaging through his blood vessels, and he was in so much pain that his face turned pale. He clenched his fists and gritted his teeth: "I'll ask you one more time, are you leaving or not?"
Injected with poisonous blood containing the Seven-Stinking Grass and subjected to the energy fluctuations of the tree's heart, the towering tree that had grown for hundreds of years began to sway and tremble like a collapsing building. Shi Xianxue felt the tremors even more intensely inside the tree hole. She swallowed hard and stubbornly said, "I'm not leaving, that's fine. Anyway, you've already broken the love curse, so what are you pretending for here!"
She said she wouldn't leave, but her feet betrayed her, and she trotted off towards the light.
Wu Ying meowed in confusion.
Didn't you say you weren't leaving?
Wu Xiutang followed her a few steps forward when a square black object shot straight at him, carrying a heavy demonic aura. He instinctively wanted to fight, so he gathered his strength and slashed at it. A clang rang out, and the black object paused for a few breaths before suddenly enlarging several times and crashing into Wu Xiutang.
It's like a square dome, seemingly trying to trap Wu Xiutang here.
When Wu Xiutang looked up, he saw the magic runes on the square field. He looked enlightened and sighed softly, "So it's a magic mark."
Indeed, if not for the blessing of the demonic seal, how could an ordinary lantern tree have such good fortune? The lantern tree is indeed a defensive type of tree demon with thick and hard bark. However, Li Fuchao's sword was a gift from his master, Xuan Daojun, and was forged from precious Xuanbing crystal. The sword spirit was Haohe, who was known for his elegant and gentlemanly demeanor and possessed the power to split mountains and break axes. It was surprisingly ineffective against him, which is why everyone was delayed here for so long.
If it were the mark of a powerful demon, then it would explain why the tree heart couldn't destroy it in one fell swoop.
But whose magical artifact is this from the foot of Mount No Return?
Before he could think it through, the demonic seal launched another attack on him. It contained powerful demonic energy, and when it pressed down with all its might, the demonic energy was like a beast unleashed from its cage, grabbing towards the direction where he was standing.
Wu Xiutang cleaved through the gap and flipped sideways. The Demon Seal saw that he was about to run away and immediately gave chase, but Wu Xiutang had no intention of escaping at all. He coldly examined the Demon Seal floating in the air, raised his arm, and unleashed several slashing waves of spiritual energy. The Demon Seal once again entered a state of stagnation, and golden pulses surged into the sword. Wu Xiutang seized the opportunity and, before it could expand its body again, raised his sword and slashed along the sharp crack.
The demonic seal emitted a tremendous explosion, and at the same time, the force of the explosion struck Wu Xiutang head-on. Wu Xiutang held his sword with both hands, his hair swirling around, and the spiritual energy he emitted clashed with the demonic seal in the air for several rounds.
Suddenly, a commotion arose outside, as if a large number of people had arrived.
Wu Xiutang saw the demonic seal quickly shrink back to the size of a palm. It swayed in the air for a few moments, and then, seemingly realizing how troublesome the boy was, it immediately cut off the battle, tore open a gap, and quickly slipped out.
That is, as it emerged, the originally indestructible tree trunk seemed to lose its support completely as the magic seal left, collapsing in all directions like a mudslide.
Because of the battle just now, Wu Xiutang could no longer suppress the sweet and itchy taste in his throat. He leaned against the wall and spat out black blood. His mouth was filled with an unbearable taste of rust. He coughed heavily a few times, his breathing slow and heavy. After a while, he leaned wearily against the tree wall.
The Seven-Spirit Grass tastes sweet, but it is extremely poisonous. When combined with his poisonous blood, it becomes a powerful weapon to slay those demons.
The Lantern Girl is a type of monster that will spring back to life as soon as there is room for improvement. He hadn't originally planned to go this far. He cherishes his body more than anyone else, and he would never do something that would cause him to lose eight hundred of his own lives in order to kill a thousand enemies... In the end, it's all Shi Xianxue's fault.
He began to feel angry and remorseful, even to the point of wanting to kill.
The Emberfire Divine Tree is a divine object. By forcibly absorbing the tree heart for his own use, he had already developed this mortal body to its limit. Before the fusion was complete, he urged the tree heart to suppress the Lantern Girl's resistance to the demonic seal. His soul was already incomplete, and now the toxins flowed through his blood vessels, making it impossible to neutralize the backlash brought by the tree heart.
He wouldn't die, but it hurt so much. His blood felt like flowing flames, scorching his internal organs as if they were on fire. He curled up in pain, closing his eyes to try and calm the pain inside him.
"Ahhh!!! Wu Xiutang!"
As he closed his eyes to rest with his long eyelashes drooping, that familiar, noisy female voice buzzed up like a fly. He struggled to lift his eyelids and saw Shi Xianxue, who had already left, rushing back in a panic. Her black hair was disheveled, and she walked quickly, her skirt fluttering like a lotus flower in a summer pond. She kept calling his name, as if she had come specifically to find him.
Of course, if she weren't followed by that flock of fanged demon birds.
Shi Xianxue certainly wanted to leave this awful place as soon as possible, but unfortunately, her strength wouldn't allow it. She seemed to possess an extraordinary ability to attract monsters, and who knows how devastated she felt when she turned a corner and saw that swarm of dark, strange birds.
She rushed over and was shocked to see Wu Xiutang looking like he was about to die. "Wu Xiutang! What happened to you?"
Please don't die! She can't beat these strange birds, and if Wu Xiutang really dies, she won't be able to get out alive either!
At this moment, Shi Xianxue truly felt the importance of Wu Xiutang. She squatted down to check on his condition and found that his face was very red and he was sweating a lot. Two golden lines of different shapes were constantly changing and rising and falling on his forehead, as if two forces were tearing and fighting for a body, with a do-or-die attitude, completely disregarding the life or death of the host.
She recognized the golden snake pattern as belonging to the Emberfire Divine Tree, but what was the other one?
Could it be that both originated from the Ember God Tree and mutated and split into two powers within Wu Xiutang's body?
Before she could think it through, Shi Xianxue remembered what the Immortal Elder had said: that the bloodline of Wushan could save him. She also knew that she had the talent for repair, but the right opportunity had not yet arrived. So, as a last resort, she tried to breathe in her true energy like Linglong and placed her hand on his forehead.
The strange birds seemed somewhat afraid of Wu Xiutang. Upon seeing him, they dared not go any further and instead stopped at the corner, spying on him with their scarlet eyes.
Wu Xiutang didn't know what she was going to do, so she forcefully slapped her hand away and retorted with Shi Xianxue's words from earlier: "Hypocrite."
Suppressing these two forces was a painful process, but not a dead end. Given time, he was already close to success; why did she need to put on this act? Wu Xiutang saw the restless demonic birds around the corner. If those demonic birds hadn't blocked her path, she probably wouldn't have cared about her own life or death.
Thinking about this, Wu Xiutang became even more annoyed with her.
Is it useless?
She thought she could break through ahead of schedule. She had just learned to circulate her qi to find the energy within her body, but it still didn't work?
She glanced at her palm. Could it be that she had to use a direct blood transfusion? She recalled Wu Xiutang's self-harm earlier. Although using blood to consecrate the sword was idiotic, it was indeed effective against the Lantern Woman.
Given Shi Xianxue's extremely proud and self-respecting personality, she couldn't bear to cut herself so badly. She only carefully bit a small wound on her finger, squeezed out a bead of bright red blood, and brought it to his lips: "Drink it quickly!"
How could Wu Xiutang drink someone else's blood so casually? His blood was highly poisonous. He immediately thought Shi Xianxue wanted to harm him, but when he looked up and met her clear yet foolish gaze, he didn't know how to say anything harsh. He weakly turned his head away and said, "Go away!"
The tree trunk was falling continuously, and the tree was about to collapse. Shi Xianxue couldn't help but feel anxious. "My blood can suppress the divine power within you. Drink it quickly!"
Wu Xiutang naturally didn't believe her. He was in so much pain that he didn't have the strength to argue with her anymore. "Stay away from me."
While he was speaking, Shi Xianxue pinched his face and put her fingers in her mouth. Little did she expect that Wu Xiutang would resist to the death and react violently, as if she were feeding him poison.
After several rounds, Shi Xianxue failed to feed the blood. He only rubbed it against his lips a few times. His features were already handsome, with very thin lips and a distinct curve in the middle of his lower lip, like flower petals. The blood that rubbed against his lips during the tearing looked like specially applied lip gloss, making it look particularly tempting.
"I told you I was saving you, don't be ungrateful!"
Wu Xiutang's eyes were dark, and he thought to himself that he would strangle her as soon as he recovered.
Shi Xianxue was getting desperate. Looking at those rose-colored lips, she steeled herself and, with a death-defying spirit, bit her tongue and kissed them.
