Chapter 10 Chapter 10 “My hands are so cold.”
Jin Sen was awake before being pushed into the operating room.
In the ambulance, he even told the doctor that he still had a steel plate in his right knee joint.
He broke his right leg again, and with the old injury on top of the new one, it might be a bit troublesome.
The operation lasted for two hours, from dawn to dusk. Many people came during the operation, including Sister Sun and Boss Jin's former comrade-in-arms, who said his surname was Wang. Everyone was so nervous that they had no time to say hello.
The anesthetic had not worn off when Jin Sen was pushed out of the operating room. He was woken up from a half-asleep state, and a voice in his ear kept calling his name.
Fearing it was Ji Ci, Jin Sen struggled to open his eyes, but when he saw it was Sun Junya, his eyelids fell back with a snap, just like the Three Gorges Dam releasing floodwaters.
After more than ten minutes, the effect of the anesthetic completely disappeared, and half of his body began to hurt as if being bitten by ants. He heard voices again, both male and female, and the noise was so noisy that it was annoying.
The nurse entered the ward and saw a room full of people. She sighed, "Ouch!" and said, "The patient needs quiet. Why are you still carrying a camera? It's late at night. Let's do it another time."
A large number of people were asked to leave the ward, including Ji Ci, who was huddled in the corner and seemed to have nothing to do with Boss Jin.
"Aren't you going to stay?" asked Sister Xu.
Ji Ci shook her head: "No."
It’s good to know that the other party is safe, and there are already many people around Boss Jin.
She returned home and browsed some new articles about today's fire on her phone. The video of Boss Jin climbing up to the third floor was clearer than Ji Ci's. The comments section was full of praise, but she was the only one who frowned.
It was late at night before going to bed. Ji Ci took out her cell phone from under her pillow. The screen stopped at the chat interface with Boss Jin. She guessed that the other party should be awake by now, but she didn't know what to send and whether it would disturb his rest.
After much thought, I finally gave up.
A sleepless night.
The house that caught fire was being cleaned up, and the garbage trucks had been clanging away since four in the morning.
Ji Ci simply got up, went to the market, brought back two crucian carps, put a casserole on the stove, and began to slowly stew fish soup.
She also washed a Codonopsis pilosula, but after thinking about it, she put it back.
With little oil, salt and seasoning, the soup is as light as the fish belly white outside the window.
The phone in her pocket received a message, she put down her spoon and clicked it to read.
[Boss Jin: Are you awake? You have no conscience.]
The natural gas was hissing with little blue flames, the fish soup in the pot was boiling, and the salty and fragrant aroma was bubbling. Ji Ci held the phone in both hands, staring at the screen for a while without blinking, suddenly she sniffed and dropped a tear.
The water film on the eyeballs broke, and all the worries and fears pushed them out all at once. The sound of raindrops under the eyelashes was the first drizzle of the day.
[Words don't express the meaning: Now that you're awake, do you want some fish soup?]
-
Ji Ci has a very sturdy stainless steel insulated food bucket. I used to use it to store mutton soup in the pet shop. It has a large capacity and good insulation effect.
At dawn, she carried the bucket of fish soup and rode her electric bike to the hospital.
Before entering the ward, I heard Brother Wang's slightly teasing voice coming from inside.
"Why are you drinking fish soup so early in the morning? You're asking for quite a bit. I'll have to go to the market now to kill some fish and stew it for you by noon."
Ji Ci: “…”
She paused at the door for two seconds and knocked.
Fish soup is here.
Since Sister Sun was away, Ji Ci brought an extra bowl, and Brother Wang was assigned a bowl. He said, "Old Jin, you are treated so well."
Jin Sen smiled and raised his eyebrows.
His bowl contained specially selected fish maw, and the soup was very delicious, reminding him of some mutton soup that Ji Ci had stewed before the New Year. It was mixed with several Chinese medicinal herbs and had a very special fragrance, which he could not quite remember.
Ji Ci poured herself a bowl and drank it slowly while sitting on the bed. The soup was very fresh, but a little bland. It would be better with some tofu.
The nurse made her ward rounds at 7:30, and Sun Junya also came with her.
She was holding a steamed bun and oil tea in her hand. Seeing Ji Ci, she paused slightly, then asked with a smile, "Have you had breakfast?"
Ji Ci was glad that she drank the soup quickly and had already washed the bowl. She stood up and took the bowl: "I made fish soup, Sister Sun, would you like some?"
Brother Wang ate and drank for free nearby, and then went to sleep next door after finishing his meal. Sun Junya took the bowl and drank the fish soup mouthful by mouthful. She thought it was delicious and asked Ji Ci how she stewed it.
Ji Ci didn't have any tricks either. She said it might be because the fish was fresh. It was the first order of business in the vegetable market in the morning. The fish's tail could swing the water five miles away.
Sun Junya was amused and laughed for a long time.
After she finished laughing, Jin Sen asked, "What time did you get up in the morning?"
Ji Ci stuttered, and Sun Junya knew that she hadn't slept well either.
Before she could say anything else, there was a knock on the door outside the ward. A young girl pushed the door open and greeted Sun Junya with a smile.
"Reporter Li," Sun Junya stood up. "Hello, hello."
Ji Ci also stood up.
Reporter Li is from a local TV station. After the incident happened yesterday, the other party contacted Sun Junya and came to interview her today.
She was followed by several men, one of whom was carrying a camera.
Ji Ci deliberately avoided the camera and moved twice secretly, finally stopping at the wall opposite the end of the bed, which was behind the photographer and absolutely safe.
"Why are you there?" Sun Junya brought a stool over and said, "Sit here."
Ji Ci waved her hand: "I'd better forget it."
She was a little overwhelmed and always felt that it would be better for her to leave, but her thermos was still on the bedside.
Ji Ci hesitated for a moment, then walked around the other side of the bed. Jin Sen reached out and carried it over to her. Ji Ci whispered, "Thank you, Boss Jin."
She turned to leave, but suddenly stopped, turned her head, and saw that the hand that had just handed her the thermos was now pinching a piece of fabric at the corner of her clothes.
Boss Jin lowered his voice: "Are you in a hurry to leave?"
His face was paler than usual, and he looked bloodless. His slightly upward gaze had a hint of weakness in it. It was clearly a rhetorical question, but to Ji Ci's ears it sounded like it had other meanings.
Ji Ci held the thermos in her arms, thought for a moment, and pointed to the bench at the end of the bed: "I'll sit there for a while."
Jin Sen's eyes curved: "Okay."
The interview lasted for more than half an hour, and most of the time it was Sun Junya talking. They had an intersection two years ago, and everyone loved the plot of a hero saving a damsel in distress, so Ji Ci also listened very carefully.
It wasn't until reporter Li began to direct his questions toward their relationship, even his slightly ambiguous questions, laced with a hint of humour, that Sun Junya waved her hands and openly denied it: "We are very good friends, and both have partners. It's not the kind of relationship that everyone imagines."
The cameraman suddenly turned his head to look at Ji Ci behind him, and the two of them met eyes in tacit understanding.
Ji Ci: “…”
"Is Mr. Jin's girlfriend interested in being interviewed?" Reporter Li asked Jin Sen, but his eyes also drifted towards Ji Ci.
The camera focused its lens on Ji Ci.
Ji Ci raised her hands to cover her face and turned around hurriedly.
Jin Sen sat up: "Don't take pictures of her."
The cameraman quickly turned the camera around and kept apologizing.
Ji Ci peeked out from between her fingers: "I'm not her girlfriend, can you please not let me appear on camera?"
The other party agreed repeatedly.
After the interview, Sun Junya saw everyone out. Ji Ci did not follow them and sat back on the bed with a sad face.
"Are you afraid of being photographed?" Jin Sen asked.
"It's not that I'm afraid..." Ji Ci pondered for a long time but couldn't put it into words, "It's just that it will be very troublesome."
Jin Sen looked like he was listening attentively: "Tell me."
Ji Ci hesitated for a long time: "Why do you always ask me about my past?"
"To be fair, you already know about my past."
Neither of their affairs was of great importance, Ji Ci thought.
She didn't know why she had to maintain this "fairness", but looking back on the past, she really didn't know where to start.
"It's very complicated."
"You can talk slowly."
"I said before that I ran away from home," Ji Ci lowered her head and pinched her fingers irritably, "It's not really a home."
Her mother died when she was very young, and she has been raised by her grandmother for many years.
When she was in her sophomore year, her grandmother fell ill. Fearing that Ji Ci would be alone and helpless in the world, she contacted Ji Ci's biological father.
"He has his own family and I don't really want to live with him."
Just a few words, but it does reveal a "complicated" look.
"So you came to Cloud City?"
"Um."
"Is your father looking for you?"
"Um."
"What will happen if I find it?"
“It’s tragic…”
"How bad is it?"
“It’s really tragic.”
The first part was quite sincere, but the second part was just perfunctory.
Jin Sen hissed and leaned back against the head of the bed.
"Anyway, I can't go back. They're looking for me with bad intentions."
"Abuse you?" Jin Sen asked tentatively.
Ji Ci was silent for a moment: "It's a disguised form of abuse."
She didn't seem to be joking, and Jin Sen slowly put away the expression on his face.
"You're unhappy after I told you." Ji Ci complained in a low voice.
"No," Jin Sen sighed slightly and put his backhand on his lower back, "My back hurts from sitting."
He changed the subject very abruptly.
"Where does it hurt?" Ji Ci immediately stood up to check, "Don't move."
He just had a major surgery yesterday, and today he can twist his body and press his lower back with his back hand. This is an extraordinary physique of an ox or a horse. If he didn't have a good physique, he might not be able to bear it.
"My waist is almost broken after lying down all day." Jin Sen said lazily.
Ji Ci reminded him: "It's still a few hours away from a day."
Jin Sen hammered it: "That has to be broken too."
"Don't hammer," Ji Ci looked terrified, "I can help you massage it."
Ji Ci had learned massage, but most of her subordinates were of the same sex. Even though she had massaged a few boys, none of them had the physique of Boss Jin, which was so standard that she could feel the direction of every muscle.
"Hiss—" Jin Sen lay on his side, grinning as Ji Ci pressed his finger against his mouth. "You're quite strong."
"Don't be so tense," Ji Ci patted his lower back, "Relax."
In fact, she was also nervous, but it showed a little unprofessionally. Boss Jin laughed, and Ji Ci didn't understand what he was laughing at.
The hospital gown was a little thin, soft and warm, like another layer of skin. Ji Ci's fingers moved up along the erector spinae muscles, and her fingertips were stained with the other person's body temperature.
Boss Jin buried his face in the pillow, unable to hide his smile as he spoke: "Hey, I feel a little itchy when you touch me."
Ji Ci walked down a few inches: "Here?"
Boss Jin felt it and said, "Not bad."
Ji Ci rubbed it to both sides, and Boss Jin stopped again: "That's itchy too."
Ji Ci said helplessly, "Boss Jin, are you itchy all over?"
"Your fingers are too light," Boss Jin twisted his body with difficulty, "It feels like being scratched by a cat."
Ji Ci frowned: "Just now you said that I have strong hands."
Jin Sen reached back and touched: "Only the first finger."
He wanted to touch the place where Ji Ci had pressed at the beginning. It felt numb and tingling, and it would indeed feel comfortable if he put his finger down. But as luck would have it, before his palm could cover his lower back, he touched the girl's slender fingers. They both paused and then withdrew at the same time.
Ji Ci curled her fingers and after a pause, she said angrily, "You're moving around again."
Boss Jin lay on his side and uttered an ambiguous "hmm." Ji Ci thought he had calmed down, but a moment later, the calming man suddenly said slowly, "Your hands are so cold."
