Chapter 166 One-Way Return Trip

Wei Qing's words were like knives piercing Lin Yusheng's heart.

But she couldn't utter a single word in rebuttal.

"I...I'm sorry."

Lin Yusheng grabbed Wei Qing's arm with a pleading look on her face. "Please let me stay. I will explain to A Ye and beg for his forgiveness. Please let me see him."

"There's no chance anymore; he doesn't want to see you."

In fact, Wei Qing knew that Lu Zhengye's decision to break off all ties with Lin Yusheng at this time was entirely for Lin Yusheng's sake.

Someone like her wouldn't be able to bear living on the island of the Dead Slaves, facing war and death every day.

In the end, Lu Zhengye loved her more than he hated her.

Wei Qing understood him fairly well; what he hated was that no one loved him when he was covered in mud, not just Lin Yusheng.

This feeling is like someone in darkness seeing a ray of light, thinking it's salvation, but upon closer inspection, they find it's a raging fire, warm yet hurtful.

But Wei Qing wouldn't say these things. He just wanted Lin Yusheng to regret and feel guilty. Why should the boss have sacrificed so much for her, yet she could still live happily? He felt it wasn't worth it for the boss.

Wei Qing said coldly, "The ship is about to depart. Take Miss Lin aboard."

"Yes," a chorus of voices responded.

Lin Yusheng felt as if she had fallen into an ice cave. She had a premonition that after this parting, she and Lu Zhengye would probably never see each other again.

"No, I won't leave, Wei Qing, please let me stay with A Ye, please."

"Captain, please, please send me back. I don't want to leave."

...

Lin Yusheng's voice faded into the sea, ultimately receiving no response.

Lin Yusheng was dragged onto the ship, and with the sound of a ship's horn, the ship gradually sailed away from the island of the Dead Slave.

The miniature of the Island of the Dead is getting smaller and smaller, which means that Lin Yusheng is getting farther and farther away from it. This distance is like the distance between her and Lu Zhengye, which cannot be crossed.

Lin Yusheng ultimately paid the price for her initial ulterior motives in approaching him. She and Lu Zhengye never even had a single argument, and Lu Zhengye even separated from her because of her unknown fate.

Everyone on the boat watched as Lin Yusheng went from heart-wrenching pain to collapsing from lack of oxygen, her beautiful face streaked with tears.

An older woman couldn't bear it. She went over and exclaimed, "Young lady, why are you so upset? Everyone leaves the Island of the Dead and is happy. Why are you acting like you're going to die?"

Lin Yusheng remained silent, as if all the oxygen in her chest and lower abdomen had been sucked out.

Only then did she realize that she was pregnant, and her hand unconsciously went to touch her lower abdomen.

It's not that she was negligent; a life had suddenly grown inside her, and it wasn't long before, plus so many things had happened recently, that she kept overlooking it.

Only when she realized what had happened did she feel a lingering fear. Her stomach was only slightly uncomfortable, but it had already made her face turn as pale as paper.

She wanted to keep the child; it was the only thing that held her and Lu Zhengye together.

Lin Yusheng's hands and feet were ice-cold. She reached out and grabbed the old woman's wrist. "May I ask what I can do to come back after I leave?"

Everyone looked at her with strange eyes. Who would leave this place and still want to come back?

"I doubt there's much of a chance. Not only is the location of the Island of the Dead hidden, but even if you wanted to come, someone would have to let you in. The Island of the Dead isn't welcoming to just anyone, and besides, no ships are willing to sail into that area," the old woman said truthfully.

Someone chimed in, "Yeah, why would we go back to a place like that? We finally have a chance to get out, we should be happy."

“Very few ships have sailed into Wangnu Island over the years, and I have heard that Wangnu Island will soon be closed to the public.”

Lin Yusheng was dazed. "Island lockdown?"

"Yes, it's just a rumor, but it's very reliable. It came from inside Ghost Strike. I heard that Ghost Strike's boss is back. Isn't he like an emperor on Slave Island? It must have been his decision. I'm pretty sure it's true."

Lin Yusheng was heartbroken.

The old woman comforted her, saying, "Don't be too sad. What is there that you can't bear to part with?"

Lin Yusheng spoke blankly, "Auntie, is there a place to rest on the boat? I'd like to go and rest for a bit."

"Yes, yes, yes, let me help you." The old woman thought she had come to her senses and was very happy.

Lin Yusheng returned to the cabin with her help.

In truth, she knew that no matter how much she resisted, she couldn't escape Lu Zhengye's arrangements once he made a decision.

She was unwilling to leave like this; she didn't even know if he was alive or dead, how could she be at peace?

After the old woman helped her to bed, she left.

After the door closed, two lines of tears streamed down Lin Yusheng's face and eventually disappeared into the pillow.

She kept repeating in her heart: Ah Ye, you must live.

As her emotions fluctuated, Lin Yusheng felt increasingly uncomfortable in her abdomen. She desperately tried to control her surging emotions to avoid further harming the fetus.

She doesn't understand anything and now desperately wants her mother to be by her side.

Lin Yusheng fell asleep while taking deep breaths. When she woke up, her stomach felt empty.

She really had no appetite, but she had to eat for the sake of her child.

As soon as Lin Yusheng opened the door and went out, she saw the old lady from this morning.

"Oh dear, little girl, you're awake?"

Lin Yusheng had already come to terms with it, so she was relatively calm at the moment. "Thank you for today. I still don't know your name."

"No need to be polite, just call me Aunt Xu."

Aunt Xu was all smiles.

Lin Yusheng felt a touch of warmth. "Aunt Xu, my name is Lin Yusheng."

Aunt Xu asked, "Have you eaten? Would you like to eat something together?"

Lin Yusheng nodded, and the two walked together toward the ship's kitchen.

Aunt Xu looked to be over forty years old. Lin Yusheng hesitated for a long time, wanting to say something but then stopping herself.

After ordering and sitting down in the chair.

Aunt Xu then asked, "What do you want to ask?"

Lin Yusheng was surprised. She smiled and asked, "I mean no harm, Aunt Xu. Do you have children?"

Aunt Xu's smile froze slightly, but she quickly returned to normal. "Yes, but they're dead."

Lin Yusheng was taken aback, then apologized with a face full of guilt.

Aunt Xu waved her hand dismissively and said, "It's alright, it's all in the past."

“I had a son who was raised in my hometown by his grandparents. He didn’t study hard and later committed a crime, and was wanted nationwide. I have no right to blame him, after all, I did not fulfill my obligation to raise him. His father passed away early, and I had to support the whole family. The first time he had a heart-to-heart talk with me was when he mentioned this island of slaves. He said that there is no law here, and the law cannot reach here. He asked me to come and live here with him.”

“I feel guilty. I agreed to his request the first time he asked me. Who would have thought that it would cost him his life here, and that he would never be able to return to his homeland.”

Aunt Xu recounted the story in a very calm manner, but Lin Yusheng knew that she must have gone through many heart-wrenching experiences before she could come to this understanding.
