Lu Mochuan was stunned, still unable to believe that what he was seeing was real.
Seeing him like this, Han Yuxi became even angrier.
Thinking about the indifference she had suffered these past few days, her eyes welled up with tears of grievance.
Lu Mochuan looked at the girl in front of him, whose nose was red, and raised his hand several times before putting it down again.
After a long silence, he tried to make his voice sound the same as always, "Why are you here?"
"Isn't it all because of you? You don't reply to my messages properly, and you don't answer my calls. Lu Mochuan, do you want to die?"
Hearing that familiar tone and formula, Lu Mochuan's bitterness actually dissipated considerably.
He chuckled lightly, "With all that fuss, which man will dare to come near you in the future?"
Han Yuxi pouted, a little embarrassed, and said, "Aren't you right next to me now?"
Lu Mochuan paused for a moment. They had made these kinds of jokes countless times before, and they were just short of actually confessing their feelings, but he didn't dare to respond at this moment.
"Because I'm just your friend, not your boyfriend, or someone who's going to be your boyfriend, understand?"
The answer Han Yuxi expected did not come. Based on their previous conversations, Lu Mochuan should have said, "I'm just used to it."
She had a very bad feeling, which made her very scared, and her subconscious instinct was to run away.
"Lu Mochuan, I haven't had a drop of water since I got off the plane, and I'm both hungry and thirsty." Han Yuxi pretended not to notice the unusual tone in his words and asked in her usual tone.
"You came alone?"
"Otherwise what?"
Lu Mochuan ultimately softened, "Let's find a shop first and I'll treat you to something to eat."
Han Yuxi nodded frantically, "My car is right ahead."
"You have to transport the car all the way here? Aren't you worried about the hassle?"
Han Yuxi: "I'm not that free. I rented it."
Lu Mochuan chuckled, "Not too stupid."
Han Yuxi turned around. She was walking in front of Lu Mochuan, and the smile on her lips gradually faded. She was probably just being overly sensitive. Lu Mochuan was probably still the same as before.
Lu Mochuan had been drinking, so Han Yuxi had to drive.
"Have you had anything good to eat since you got back? Can you recommend something?"
Lu Mochuan: "No."
"Then why did you come back? Just to see your grandfather?"
Lu Mochuan: "My grandfather passed away a few days ago."
Han Yuxi braked suddenly.
Lu Mochuan immediately went to protect her, asking, "Are you alright?"
"I'm sorry." Han Yuxi said, her face full of guilt.
Lu Mochuan knew which sentence she was referring to, and as he withdrew his hand, he said, "It's okay, everyone has that day eventually."
Han Yuxi continued driving, but two lines of tears fell from her eyes.
Lu Mochuan didn't even tell her about such a big thing.
She remembered the day she sent him back to China. The airport was crowded with people, and he, taking advantage of his height, touched her head again.
She pretended to be annoyed and slapped it away, saying, "Lu Mochuan, I've already told you that this gesture is too intimate. You...you shouldn't take advantage of me."
Lu Mochuan smiled broadly, "Han Xiaoxi, don't you know who got the better deal? You're probably reminiscing about it under the covers tonight, aren't you?"
"Stop being so narcissistic, you don't deserve it." Han Yuxi retorted loudly, but her thoughts were exposed, and her ears gradually turned red.
Lu Mochuan was actually trying to ease the tension of parting, saying, "Then I'll go first. I reckon I'll be back in about a month."
"Just remember to come back."
"Of course, I can't bear to part with Han Xiaoxi."
Han Yuxi was both angry and embarrassed. "Let's go, we'll miss our flight."
"Then I'm off." Lu Mochuan waved and ran into the airport.
Han Yuxi watched his retreating figure, and her longing began to overflow.
"Lu Mochuan, remember to text me and call me too."
The boy waved his hand. "Okay, go back now."
...
At this point in her memory, Han Yuxi was pulled back to reality by Lu Mochuan's voice, "Let's eat at that ramen place up ahead, don't you really like noodles?"
"good."
Han Yuxi parked the car.
The two went into the store together, and Lu Mochuan ordered one dish.
Han Yuxi, "Aren't you going to eat?"
"You eat, I'm not hungry."
“But you’ve lost a lot of weight.” Han Yuxi frowned.
She ignored Lu Mochuan and shouted, "Boss, I want two of the same thing."
Okay.
Han Yuxi sat opposite Lu Mochuan and said, "I don't care, you have to eat with me."
Lu Mochuan said helplessly, "Okay."
Han Yuxi carefully scanned his entire body, her eyes gradually welling up with tears of heartache.
"How did you lose so much weight?"
Lu Mochuan suppressed his longing and casually said, "The results of my weight loss."
"Bullshit, you've never even thought about losing weight."
Lu Mochuan said, "Lucheng is a bit different from your place. People here are thinner, and I feel inferior when I come back."
"You're lying. There were so many chubby kids at the barbecue stalls on my way here," Han Yuxi said. "Besides, you're not fat to begin with."
Lu Mochuan was unusually silent, and did not joke with Han Yuxi as he had before.
Han Yuxi was also taken aback by his reaction and was speechless for a moment.
She came to see him specifically, but he didn't seem happy at all.
When the food arrived, Lu Mochuan didn't have much of an appetite, but he still finished it to avoid wasting food.
Han Yuxi ate slowly, but after finishing one bowl, she ordered another.
She struggled to eat the second bowl and felt like vomiting several times.
Lu Mochuan knew her appetite and also knew her habit of stuffing things into her mouth when she was unhappy.
He reached out and snatched her chopsticks away, saying, "If you can't eat, then don't."
Lu Mochuan's tone was too cold and calm, and Han Yuxi could no longer suppress the grievances in her heart.
She didn't want to shed tears in front of Lu Mochuan, so she gritted her teeth and endured the stinging sensation in her nose.
"Lu Mochuan, is it because there are too many beautiful women in Lucheng that you've changed your mind?"
If Han Yuxi looked up at this moment, she would see that even the corners of Lu Mochuan's eyes were red.
But he still pretended to be nonchalant and said, "Han Xiaoxi, why are you talking so strangely? We don't seem to be together, do we? Why do you make it sound like we're having an affair?"
Han Yuxi looked at him, her eyes showing no sign of joking. "Are you serious, or are you teasing me?"
In her heart, they were just one step away from breaking through the barrier between them, and she thought the same was true for him.
“Haven’t I always been like this?” Lu Mochuan said.
Han Yuxi didn't say anything, she just kept looking at him.
She wanted him to give a direct answer, not this vague response.
Lu Mochuan persisted for a while, then seemed to give up and leaned back in his chair.
"Okay, I'll tell you. I did meet a girl through my family after I came back, and she fits my criteria for a partner quite well."
Tears welled up in Han Yuxi's eyes and fell like pearls from a broken string. Her gaze as she looked at Lu Mochuan gradually filled with sorrow.
