Chapter 4 Breaking Corn
It was almost dawn, and the faded curtains were not closed, leaving a gap. The eastern sky was turning pale, followed by thick clouds like scales. The gray light woke up Lu Sui, who was laying on the ground.
As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw a pair of snow-white legs lying across his stomach. Liang Jingxuan, who was supposed to sleep on the dragon and phoenix bed, was sleeping next to him, even occupying most of his pillow. Her face was flushed, and she was sleeping like a little piglet...
Lu Sui's breath was caught, he moved his legs away, stood up on tiptoe, put his clothes and pants on his shoulders, and closed the door gently.
Song Huizi woke up earlier and was feeding the chickens and ducks. Lu Sui washed up and found a sickle and a bundle of pig feed bags. "Aunt, while it's not too hot, I'm going to go harvest the corn on the back hill first."
It is now the end of August, which is half a month of harvest. Every household has harvested their corn, except theirs. If they don't harvest it now, it will rot in the fields.
Song Huizi wiped her hands with her apron and said, "Then I'll make you a bowl of noodles before you go!"
Farm work requires strength, and you can't last long on an empty stomach. Lu Sui nodded, "Okay!" It's noodles, but there are basically only a few strands, mostly meat and eggs, "Auntie, don't you want to eat?"
"You eat first. Mine is on the stove. I'll go feed the pigs and then I can eat!"
Song Huizi carried a bag full of pig food to the backyard. Lu Sui lifted the lid of the pot on the stove, revealing a small bowl of noodles with clear soup and barely any oil.
When Song Huizi came back from feeding the pigs, Lu Sui had already left. She took off the lid of the pot on the stove and found two greasy eggs on the top. She used her chopsticks to turn it over and found seven or eight pieces of meat, all of which were lean.
The sun was scorching, the crickets in the grass were screaming at the top of their lungs, and in the endless cornfield, Lu Sui was holding a dogtail grass in his mouth. Sweat soaked his vest, outlining the muscle lines on his back, and his arms were covered with red marks from the corn leaves. In one morning, he harvested two acres of corn.
With the noodles he had eaten in the morning, he wasn't that hungry, but he was very thirsty. However, he didn't plan to go back for breakfast. The trip back and forth would take a long time, so he planned to harvest the remaining two pieces of corn before going back.
The midday sun was the most scorching. Before he was discharged from the army, Lu Sui was a field soldier, so he could still stand this kind of sun. But the sweat was like a torrential rain, endless. If he didn't wipe it, it would drip into his eyes and make him feel hot. If he did wipe it, it would take a lot of time. He took off his vest and threw it on the ridge.
"Husband..." Lu Sui turned around with the sound. Liang Jingxuan stood on the ridge with a bamboo basket, looking at him with tears in her eyes, "Husband..."
"Why are you here?" Lu Sui's two big pectoral muscles were heaving violently, and his eight strong abdominal muscles were covered with fine beads of sweat.
"I'll bring you food..." Liang Jingxuan lifted up the bamboo basket. A large blue and white porcelain bowl was covered with a piece of cloth, and next to it was an old enamel teacup with a bright red double happiness pattern. "Eat first..."
Lu Sui could smell the roasted fish from a distance, so he took a sickle, stepped on the corn stalks, walked slowly to the ridge, picked up his vest and put it on, then stiffly took the bamboo basket from his hand.
"I'll eat, you go back!" The tone wasn't very good, but it wasn't very bad either.
"I won't reply... You are my husband, I will be wherever you are..." Liang Jingxuan pulled his jeans and refused to let go. Lu Sui was very angry, as if there was a string tied in his head, which was pulled so tightly that it might break at any time.
"We've only met a few times. What the hell do you know what a lifetime is?"
Liang Jingxuan counted on his fingers very seriously, "Six, no, seven! A lifetime... just like my second uncle and second aunt... I know!"
The sun was hot and scorching, and her palm-sized face seemed to be burning red. Lu Sui's Adam's apple rolled a little...
Under the lush tea trees, a long breeze swept past, swallowing up the scorching heat and leaving only a pleasant coolness.
Lu Sui drank half a jar of rock sugar water, and the heat subsided a lot. Liang Jingxuan uncovered the white cloth, carefully picked up the blue and white porcelain bowl, and passed it to him, "Husband..."
Lu Sui took the bowl with a sullen face, "Fuck it! How many times do you want me to say that I am not your husband! I like women...women with breasts and butts!"
Liang Jingxuan pouted, "I have one too! It's just a little small..."
The veins on Lu Sui's forearms were taut, "..."
"I think it's pretty big, husband, do you want to see it?" Liang Jingxuan pinched her chubby chest. Lu Sui frowned fiercely, "No!"
Liang Jingxuan's eyes were red, and the tears were rolling but couldn't fall. They were held in her long eyelashes, wetting them into strands. "If you don't want to look at mine, whose do you want to look at?"
Lu Sui took two big mouthfuls of rice and stuffed a few pieces of braised fish into the mouth. Strangely, there was not a single fish bone in the food. In a hurry, he ate very roughly and finished the meal in a blink of an eye.
I didn't hear any movement, so I raised my head alertly. Liang Jingxuan was hugging her knees, sobbing softly, with pearls of all sizes all over her face. "I'm really convinced and I'm crying. Stop crying, can I stop looking?! Damn it, I hid in the cornfield, but you still wouldn't let me go..."
Liang Jingxuan clenched his fists, "You...you already have me, and you still go to see other people's...mine is smaller than others', right?...and you still despise me...No matter how much you despise me, I am still your wife!"
Lu Sui was choked for a moment, and after a while, he said with a smile, "Okay, whatever you fucking say is what it is, stop crying!"
"Then are you still looking at other people's?" Liang Jingxuan asked angrily.
Lu Sui had never been so cowardly before. "Oh my god, when did I ever say I wanted to see someone else?!"
"Then why don't you look at mine?!" Liang Jingxuan pressed on. Lu Sui's lower abdomen tightened and a hot current rushed to his brain. "I don't want to look..." He threw the bowl and chopsticks into the bamboo basket and drank the remaining half jar of sugar water.
"If you don't want to watch it, then don't watch it..." Liang Jingxuan muttered as he packed up. Lu Sui glanced at his red neck and his eyes darkened. "Okay, hurry back!"
"I won't go back... I'll go with you, two people are faster than one person..." Before Liang Jingxuan finished speaking, Lu Sui's face fell, "What the hell are you doing? Go back quickly, you're just wasting time here!"
"I won't delay..." Liang Jingxuan ran into the cornfield stubbornly and started to pick corns whenever he got his hands on them. Lu Sui clenched his teeth and was too lazy to pay attention to him. After picking corns for more than an hour, Liang Jingxuan was sweating all over. The sweat on his forehead flowed down along his brow bones, which was very eye-irritating.
Lu Sui was a little absent-minded. He thought the little fool wouldn't be able to hold it in for long, but he didn't expect him to hold it in for more than an hour. Bai Yu's neck was covered with mosquito bites. He pried and pulled them, and his chest to neck was covered in blood.
When the sun was a little less scorching, only a piece of soil was left. Lu Sui squinted his eyes to look at Liang Jingxuan. He was squatting on a pile of corn and peeling corn husks. He was still wearing yesterday's red short-sleeved shirt and denim overalls. He was small and looked harmless, but he was actually very stubborn.
Lu Sui lifted up his clothes and wiped the sweat off his face. He walked to the ridge, picked up his coat, put it on his shoulders, and walked towards Liang Jingxuan slowly. "We'll peel the corn husks when we get home... Stop it, go wait for me under the tea tree." After saying that, he threw the coat on his shoulders roughly at him, "Put this on!"
Liang Jingxuan hugged his coat and rubbed his eyes, "It's hot..."
"So do you want to die of heat or itchiness?!" Lu Sui said and left, secretly cursing himself for meddling in other people's business after having eaten a lot. His words were rough but true, Liang Jingxuan put them on obediently, the smell of sweat mixed with a faint smell of tobacco was not unpleasant, except that it was a bit hot, but there were indeed no mosquitoes biting him.
He didn't go under the tea tree, but was still peeling corn husks under the scorching sun. After peeling a pile, he put them into the feed bag one by one, taking his time but not being perfunctory at all. Lu Sui looked at him uncontrollably, and his outline was very blurry under the orange-yellow halo.
Perhaps it was because the sight was too scorching, Liang Jingxuan raised his eyes and looked over, only to see a tall figure with a broad and thick back with distinct cleavages, and two muscular thighs below the thin waist.
Lu Sui broke the corn with great effort and cursed softly, "Damn it!" He held back his strength and finished breaking the last piece of corn.
The cornfield, where the corn had been emptied, was left with only skinny corn stalks, which looked like tied-up dried corpses. When the wind blew, they made a rustling sound, which was quite creepy.
Lu Sui twisted his swollen and painful neck, picked up the sickle, and walked up the ridge. He froze after taking only two steps. Liang Jingxuan, who should have been on the corn pile, was gone! He panicked and quickened his pace.
The bamboo basket under the tea tree was still there, so the man definitely didn't go back. "Husband!" Lu Sui turned around abruptly. Liang Jingxuan was holding an old enamel teacup with a big red double happiness pattern, looking at him with a frown. Lu Sui walked forward angrily, "Where the hell have you been?!"
"I'll go get some water...husband, you drink it!" Liang Jingxuan handed it over carefully, and Lu Sui's wildly beating heart slowly returned to normal, "Silly..."
"Silly is your wife too!"
Liang Jingxuan stuffed the enamel teacup into his hand, then sat down on the corn pile and started peeling the husks. His hands were red and hot from peeling.
Lu Sui picked up the enamel teacup and took two big gulps. He instantly felt relieved. "Don't peel it...let's go home." Lu Sui wiped his mouth.
"What should we do with the corn?" Liang Jingxuan asked with his head tilted.
"Put it in the feed bag and seal it. I'll cut some corn stalks to block it and ask my second uncle to drive the van to take it away tomorrow." Lu Sui stuffed the empty enamel teacup into his hand, "I'll fill it, you stand aside."
Liang Jingxuan didn't listen to him, wiped the enamel and put it on the ground, holding the feed bag, "I'll hold it, you load it!"
Lu Sui was stunned for a moment, and said nothing, with his head down and working hard. The two of them cooperated with each other, and the corn piled into a small mountain was quickly loaded and sealed. Lu Sui leaned over and easily carried it up. Liang Jingxuan also wanted to carry it, but he didn't use enough strength and was crushed. He looked at Lu Sui pitifully, "Husband, save me..."
