Chapter 55
As she spoke, Shen Qingru rushed over with a stick in her hand, swinging it angrily, but she saw the man on the tree trunk dodged it perfectly, climbed up higher with his hands and feet, and stood on the tree and said to the people below,
"That's because my sister is cute. If she wasn't cute, I wouldn't have encouraged Ding Yi to bring his sister here. And that teacher made my sister cry. She's not gentle at all. She should be the one apologizing to my sister!"
Hearing this, Shen Qingru almost couldn't breathe, raised the stick high,
"You still dare to argue? If you have the guts, stay up there for a night. I don't think you can come down!"
It was the rush hour after get off work, and more and more people were passing through the community. Although everyone was used to this scene, they still couldn't help but look over here out of curiosity.
Shen Qingru threw the wooden stick angrily, took out a mirror from her bag, tidied her appearance, and went upstairs with a dignified look.
The man in the tree stayed there until dusk, when a familiar voice sounded from under the tree.
"Stinky boy, come down and go home."
"Okay!"
Cheng Xi was leaning against a tree, about to fall asleep. He woke up instantly after hearing this, drove away the sleepiness, responded quickly, and slid down from the tree.
"Dad, you came back a little late today. I almost fell asleep."
Cheng Huaiwen put one hand on the boy's shoulder, and the two of them walked home together.
"Your mom said that if you keep going on like this, she'll send you to a magic troupe and let the magicians transform you. I heard that the kids who went there became much more sensible and their grades improved dramatically after they came back."
Cheng Xi couldn't help laughing when he heard this. He raised his hand and patted Cheng Huaiwen's shoulder, saying earnestly,
"Dad, if I really become like that, I won't be your son anymore. If all else fails, why don't you adopt one? It's definitely better than your own."
After saying that, Cheng Xi ran away.
Cheng Huaiwen was walking behind, and after a moment's hesitation, he reacted and quickly caught up.
"Well, you're saying that your mother and I have bad genes, you little bastard, stop right there."
The next day, at daybreak, a piece of news spread throughout the neighborhood: a magic troupe was about to arrive in the city to perform magic shows for five days.
As soon as the news came out, a large number of people rushed to buy tickets. Most of them were children who loved magic, and the rest were parents who were eager to participate in the "transformative" magic interaction.
"Cheng Xi, I can't come to your house tonight. My parents bought tickets for a magic show, and I'm going to watch it tonight."
Cai Qianxun pulled Cheng Xi aside before school was over and gave him specific instructions.
Cheng Xi nodded and agreed readily. After his friend left, he looked puzzled and started talking to himself.
"A magic show, is it really that good?"
But unexpectedly, when I saw Cai Qianxun again, it was already the second day of the magic show.
Cheng Xi approached Cai Qianxun as usual, put his hand on his shoulder, and looked curious.
"Ah Xun, was the magic show good? Did you see the rumored 'rebirth'?"
But Cai Qianxun beside him frowned, looked at Cheng Xi and asked coldly,
"Who are you?"
"?"
A question mark appeared on Cheng Xi's head, and he was a little suspicious, but his smile remained unchanged, thinking that the other party was acting with him.
"We've already watched the show, but you've been acting a bit too much. Of course I'm your good friend Cheng Xi. Are you planning to abandon our brotherhood in just one night?"
Cheng Xi stared at him intently. It was obvious that when he said his name, Cai Qianxun showed a look of disgust on his face. He pushed him away with a look of disgust, actively distanced himself, and said,
"Cheng Xi, don't come near me anymore. Our friendship ends here."
After saying this, Cai Qianxun walked away expressionlessly.
Cheng Xi looked at the familiar figure from behind, but he didn't feel any familiarity.
In the small test that day, Cai Qianxun unexpectedly jumped from the last place in the class to the first place.
Only then did Cheng Xi realize that something was wrong.
As soon as I entered the house, I heard my own Ms. Shen muttering,
"Qianxun has been studying very hard lately. His grades have improved dramatically. Chengxi, when will you reflect on this?"
Cheng Xi replied gloomily,
"Then you should send me to the magic troupe."
Shen Qingru frowned, feeling that something was not going on. She looked away from her phone and looked at Cheng Xi, questioningly.
"What's wrong with you today? This state is not like you."
Cheng Xi didn't answer and went into the room with his schoolbag.
Cheng Huaiwen poked his head out of the kitchen, wearing an apron and holding a spatula in his hand. He looked at Shen Qingru with a confused look on his face.
The two thought Cheng Xi was interested in the magic show and bought tickets immediately.
The sun was shining brightly, and enthusiastic cheers carried by the breeze ignited the excitement of the entire city, while the performances in the city center set off waves of heat.
"Today's performance is drawing to a close. We are about to present the grand finale of today's magic show - the much-anticipated 'Transformation'. Next, we will select a lucky guest to join us on stage."
Amidst the enthusiastic cheers, a sudden cry rang out at an inopportune moment. In the audience, a pair of parents forced a seven or eight-year-old child onto the stage, their faces ferocious.
"Shut up! Don't you see what kind of occasion this is? There are so many people here, and others don't even have the chance to participate in the magic show. Why are you still crying?"
After the three of them finished speaking, they walked onto the stage. When they met the magician's eyes, they instantly became gentle. The parents changed their fierce expressions and greeted him with a smile. They personally put their children into the magic box.
"I'm sorry to have embarrassed you. I will leave the child to you with peace of mind."
The magician's eyes, revealed through the mask, showed professional respect. He bowed slightly to the parents, and his words were tinged with pleasure.
"Leave it to me. Right away, I will give you a son who is close to perfect."
Cheng Xi stood in the audience and watched the parents leave the stage with great anticipation. The magic box beside them blocked out the shrill cries, and the resentful clapping gradually subsided.
The lights in the venue dimmed instantly, leaving only a beam of light on the magic box. In front of everyone's witness, the magician circled the box several times, and his words came out of the microphone.
"Quiet! My dear child, your mother carried you for ten months, going through many hardships, and your father dedicated his life to raising you. You should be grateful. Now, at this moment, you must become sensible and become the person your parents expect you to be."
The magician's words, spoken slowly, seemed to have a kind of magic that calmed the person in the box. The movement in the box gradually stopped, and the scene was dead silent.
For some reason, Cheng Xi suddenly felt a little nervous. He held his breath and looked at the stage intently.
With a sudden sound, the door of the magic box opened.
The child who had been crying non-stop came out and bowed deeply and politely when he saw the magician. The microphone at the corner of his mouth carried the child's childish but mature words.
"Thank you for your teaching. I will be obedient in the future and be a child that my parents are satisfied with."
As soon as he finished speaking, applause came from somewhere, instantly igniting the whole audience. The dead silence suddenly turned into thunderous applause. In the surprised eyes of everyone, the parents took the child back with a smile on their faces.
"I see everyone's enthusiasm. Let's continue the show. This is the first one today. The second and third will come on stage soon. Please raise your hands and let me see your enthusiasm!"
Cheng Xi glanced at the faces of the people around him. Everyone's face showed an eager expression. The sound of a child crying echoed in his mind. For some reason, Cheng Xi had a question.
If a person's temperament suddenly changes, is he still himself?
Cheng Xi couldn't solve this problem by himself. In a trance, Cheng Xi raised his hand involuntarily.
It was not until Shen Qingru put him into the magic box that Cheng Xi came to his senses and was surprised at what he had done. He raised his eyes to meet Shen Qingru's gaze, and saw her face full of expectation. Before he could say anything, Shen Qingru quickly closed the door of the box.
As the door was locked, Cheng Xi's eyes fell into a brief darkness. The cheers that filled his ears suddenly stopped, and the whole world became surprisingly quiet.
Cheng Xi was a little afraid of the dark. Being in an unfamiliar space, he couldn't help but feel a little scared. He tentatively reached out and touched the magic box. His fingers accidentally brushed against the wall of the box, and he unexpectedly discovered a finger-wide gap on the edge of the box behind him.
Touching the gap, Cheng Xi could vaguely feel the air flowing. Curiously, he walked along the gap and was surprised to find that it was a secret door. He tried to find a way to open it.
But when he listened carefully, he heard hurried footsteps coming from outside. Cheng Xi put his ear to the wall of the box and heard the footsteps stop at the door.
The person outside was slow to open the door. Cheng Xi was just wondering when he suddenly smelled a faint fragrance. His thoughts drifted away unconsciously and he saw the floor hitting his face.
Cheng Xi passed out without realizing it. In his dream, he vaguely felt that his body was floating in the clouds. His eyelids drooped and he couldn't open his eyes at all. He heard the deafening cheers from the audience. He realized at this moment that it was that "he" who walked out of the box for him.
When Shen Qingru saw Cheng Xi bowing to her to thank her, she could not believe her eyes. She never thought that Cheng Xi would be so polite.
"Congratulations to Ms. Shen. Next, we will draw the last lucky audience member of today!"
With the demonstration of the first two, the others became even more excited.
When Cheng Xi woke up, he was curled up in a ball, the cold and dirty ground beneath him, and he heard strange whispers in his ears.
"Is he dead?"
"Another one was caught. Guess why his parents sent him here?"
"Why else could it be? It's just that I didn't become the child my parents dreamed of."
"Have we been abandoned? My parents will definitely not realize that I am not me."
"So what if they find out? Do you think they'll change you back?"
The volume in my ears was getting louder and louder. It seemed that there was more than one person talking, and they looked like they were about to fight.
Cheng Xi was given a headache by the noise. He had never slept so soundly before. This group of people disturbed his sweet dream, which made him a little angry.
