Chapter 8 Refusing to Take the Child Horseback Riding

Little did she know, while she was admiring the scenery, those admiring the scenery were also admiring her.

On the streets of Luoyang, a woman in a gorgeous red dress was pinned down by a handsome man in white, while those around them gasped in shock.

The scene was so beautiful that everyone forgot about the terrifying moment that had just occurred.

A carriage, as if out of control, crashed into the distraught woman in red.

Shen Nanzi finally realized what was happening and asked, "You saved me?"

The man quickly got up and said in a low voice, "Madam, please get up. The ground is cold and dirty."

After saying that, the handsome man limped into the alley.

"Grab him, he's a thief."

Several burly men ran past Shen Nanzi quickly, each carrying a wooden stick or similar weapon.

What... what's going on?

The handsome man who saved her turned out to be a thief; this guy's character is rather mixed!

Thinking that the handsome man's foot seemed to be injured, if he were caught, he would definitely be beaten half to death.

Since he saved her, she should repay the kindness.

Shen Nanzi got up and followed him into the alley.

The handsome man in white had been cornered, and his eyes were now filled with despair.

He saw Shen Nanzi through the crowd and waved for her to hurry up.

What a beautiful, wicked, and tragic woman!

Just as the stick struck the handsome man, Shen Yingxiong shouted, "Stop! I'll return the silver he stole!"

A group of people turned their heads and saw a delicate and stunningly beautiful young woman.

His tone instantly softened, "Madam, please don't get involved. He's a bad man. He stole my meat buns and even seduced my wife."

"Yes! Madam, don't be deceived by his appearance. Good-looking people aren't necessarily good people!"

After hesitating for a moment, Shen Nanzi figured that someone who was willing to risk their life to save others was probably not a bad person, so she pulled out a gold hairpin.

“I’m taking him. You can all go your separate ways. If he steals again, you can hand him over to the authorities.”

The burly man at the head of the group took the hairpin and reminded her, "The world is dangerous, madam, be careful."

Shen Nanzi nodded, "Thank you, I understand."

After everyone had gone, the handsome man seemed to have lost all his strength and slumped down against the wall behind him, his white clothes getting even more covered in dust.

There was crimson blood seeping through the hem of her clothes. "Your leg is injured?"

"Why did you save me? Don't you know it's dangerous for a woman like me?" He hung his head, one elbow resting on his knee, looking weak and listless.

Shen Nanzi looked at his pale face, "Are you hungry?"

"Why else would I steal meat buns?" He gave a bitter laugh, leaning his head back against the wall, revealing his beautifully defined Adam's apple.

"Why did you seduce a married woman?" she asked curiously, her beautiful eyes wide open, like a naive and easily deceived young girl.

The handsome man sighed with a hint of helplessness, “That lady flirted with me. When her husband came back and found out, she turned around and accused him. She’s truly the most vicious woman. I just wanted to eat a few more buns to fill my stomach, so I stubbornly talked to her for a bit longer.”

Looking at his handsome face, Shen Nanzi had no doubts whatsoever.

Xie Yan was drugged several times by daughters of prominent officials, all in an attempt to facilitate a romantic relationship with him.

It is indeed dangerous for a man to be too handsome.

“I’ll take you to the clinic, and then I’ll buy you steamed buns, no, I’ll buy you roast chicken.”

Upon hearing this, the handsome man's Adam's apple bobbed, and he swallowed noticeably, as if he had thought for a moment. "Okay! Thank you."

"Good people get good rewards! If you do good deeds, you can become a god after you die." Shen Nanzi didn't want to get entangled in Xie Yan's emotions, so she found something to do to pass the time.

"Can you get up?"

The handsome man braced himself with both hands on the ground, trying repeatedly but failing each time. Finally, he gave up, saying, "It seems impossible."

"Miss!"

The sound of the wind made Shen Nanzi turn around and look at him, who was dressed in black and carrying a long sword. She waved and said, "You've come at the right time. He's injured. Take him to the clinic."

Lie Feng looked at the beautiful man, hesitated for a moment, and then stepped forward to help him up.

Noticing his frail physique, and to save trouble, she simply carried him on her back.

After going to the clinic, he was diagnosed with a broken leg bone and severe external injury, requiring more than a month of rest.

Shen Nanzi knew that he was currently homeless and had nothing but clothes on him.

Thinking that she would be either dead or seriously injured if he hadn't risked his life to save her, she decided to see it through to the end.

"Let's take him to stay on Chang Le Street!"

That was a house her mother left her, and there were servants inside.

Lie Feng stared wide-eyed, thinking that his young lady was being overly kind again, taking in all sorts of cats, dogs, beggars, and widows.

She then said to the handsome man, "There are people there who can take care of you. Once you've recovered, you can leave on your own!"

"Thank you for taking me in, Madam. I will repay your kindness with a generous gift once I find my family." The handsome man introduced himself, "My name is Ye Shuyin. May I ask how I am addressed, Madam?"

"Nanzi, you can just call me Nanzi."

As Shen Nanzi spoke, she could clearly sense that Lie Feng was unwilling, and she had to persuade him outside before he finally agreed.

And so, Lie Feng first sent Shen Nanzi back to the Jing Prince's Mansion, and then turned back, taking Ye Shuyin to Chang Le Street.

Back at the manor, Shen Nanzi, thinking of the child, went directly to his courtyard.

Xie Chengze, her son with Xie Yan, or more accurately, the son she forced upon her.

He is six years old this year and goes to the Royal Academy every day to receive his early education.

Hearing her enter the room, the little girl who was practicing calligraphy immediately got up and rushed into Chen Nanzi's arms.

"Mother, Cheng'er has been waiting for you." His body was soft, his little head tilted back, revealing a delicate little face, just like a little Xie Yan.

Shen Nanzi squatted down to be at eye level with her son, pinched his little cheek, and asked with great tenderness, "What do you need from your mother?"

Xie Chengze lowered his head, hesitated for a moment, then frowned and carefully spoke, "Mother, we have to learn to ride horses tomorrow. The Grand Tutor said that the first time we ride, our fathers must personally teach us."

Shen Nanzi understood why Xie Chengze looked conflicted; Xie Yan disliked her and her child.

When she was six months pregnant, Xie Yan was ordered to go out to provide disaster relief. He was gone for several months, and by the time he returned, the baby had already been over 100 days old.

She had forced the child into the family, and he didn't even want to look at it, let alone take care of it.

She raised the child single-handedly from birth; Xie Yan could only manage a few gurgling sounds at most.

This child is precocious; he knows that his father, Prince Jing, doesn't love him, and he only turns to his mother for everything.

It's likely that he started to feel uneasy after the Grand Tutor assigned him this task.

Shen Nanzi looked at her son and felt guilty, hating herself for having found such a father for her child.

However, she still smiled and patted her chest to Xie Chengze assuring him, "Mother will go find your father right now and see if he has any official business to attend to tomorrow?"

"You wait for your mother!"

Shen Nanzi went out and walked towards Xie Yan's courtyard.

Forgetting her anger at being kicked off the carriage earlier, she stood in front of his courtyard like a shameless rogue.

Xie Yan did not allow her to enter his courtyard, not even her servants, including Xie Chengze.

In previous years, she would often wait for him to return home here, but later he got annoyed with her and forbade her to wait for him here anymore.

Later, when she could not find any trace of him, she sent her own people to keep watch. When he found out, he ordered her not to send anyone to keep watch anymore.

Later, she could only bribe the servant in his courtyard, but when he found out, the servant was sent away from the mansion.

After that, she was at her wit's end and didn't want to implicate innocent people, so she didn't go into the courtyard for a long time.
