Chapter 109 Qu He is deceived
The scene instantly descended into chaos. The man who had rushed forward had already been subdued by security. The director's shouts, the sound of phone calls, and the chaotic footsteps mingled together.
Qu He stood frozen in place, looking at Yan Shu's reddened eyes, feeling as if something had twisted her heart hard, a bitter feeling she couldn't describe.
It wasn't until he saw the blood slowly seeping from the back of Zhuang Bieyan's shirt that he snapped out of his daze.
The production team was still broadcasting live, but they quickly cut off the broadcast after seeing this scene.
Yan Shu's assistant had already run over and pulled her up. Qu He's gaze swept between Yan Shu and Zhuang Bieyan, her steps seemingly rooted to the spot, at a loss.
Zhuang Bieyan had already been helped to stand up by the director.
"Ahe." He pushed aside the people helping him and reached out his hand to her. "Come here."
Qu He stepped forward.
He took her hand and looked her up and down, his brow furrowing slightly in pain. "Are you hurt?"
Qu He shook her head, her voice hoarse: "No, your back..."
"It's just a minor injury; a visit to the hospital will do the trick."
He held her hand tightly, his grip leaving no room for refusal. "You'll stay with me."
The car arrived quickly, and even after Zhuang Bieyan sat in the back seat, he still didn't let go of her hand.
Just a second before the car door closed, Qu He clearly saw Yan Shu's deeply worried gaze coming from outside the car.
On the way to the hospital, the carriage was quiet, and no one spoke.
Qu He's hand was held tightly by him, her palm slightly warm, even damp with sweat.
She tried to pull away to make him feel more comfortable, but Zhuang Bieyan didn't give her the chance, and he held her hand even tighter.
When they arrived at the hospital, the doctor used tweezers to remove the broken porcelain shards embedded in his back, cleaned the wound, disinfected it, and bandaged it. He didn't let go of her hand the whole time.
After the doctor left, only the two of them remained in the ward.
The smell of disinfectant permeated the air.
Qu He looked up and stared straight at the person sitting on the hospital bed.
"You know Yan Shu."
This is not a question, it is a certainty.
It's a woman's sixth sense.
Qu He guessed it from the undisguised worry in Yan Shu's eyes just now.
Zhuang Bieyan looked over and remained silent for a few seconds.
The wound on his back was still throbbing, but her gaze pierced his heart, leaving him unable to decide which hurt more.
He reached out to touch her face, but she turned her head away.
Silence filled the air. After a long while, the man nodded very slightly.
This nod was like a needle, instantly piercing through Qu He's feigned composure.
She felt a lump in her throat, and a surge of grievance and anger welled up inside her.
She forcefully pulled her hand away and turned to walk out the door.
"Ahe!"
Zhuang Bieyan's expression changed. Almost instinctively, he threw off the covers and chased after her without even putting on his shoes.
He hugged her tightly from behind, his arms wrapped around her so tightly that she would disappear the moment he let go.
"Let go." Qu He struggled, her voice trembling with suppressed emotion.
"Ahe, don't go... don't go..."
He buried his face in the crook of her neck, his voice low and hoarse, filled with an unknown panic.
Qu He took a deep breath, suppressing the stinging in her eyes, but her voice was still a little wet: "Zhuang Bieyan, I hate it when people lie to me! You promised me!"
She tried to pry his hands off her waist, but his strength was astonishing, and they only tightened around her.
“You know my past, the good and the bad, I’ve never hidden it from you. But what about you? I know nothing about your past. How long have you known Yan Shu? What is your relationship? You don’t tell me anything, it’s not fair at all!”
She became more and more aggrieved as she spoke, and her eyes couldn't help but redden.
Zhuang Bieyan hugged her very tightly, apologizing with remorse and urgency: "I'm sorry, Ahe, I really have nothing to do with her. We just met in England, and we're not close at all. I won't lie to you, never."
"If there's no connection, why can't you tell me? Is it fun watching me being kept in the dark, putting on a show of pretending to be a stranger in front of me?"
No.
Qu He turned to look at him, her eyes red and filled with tears. "If it weren't for this accident today, would you have never told me that you two knew each other? Or do you also think that my feelings and my anxiety are not important at all?"
Just thinking about how flustered Yan Shu was when she rushed towards Zhuang Bieyan at the scene, and how they might have known each other for a long time but were acting like strangers in front of her, made Qu He feel both sore and aching.
She felt a growing resentment inside her, a suffocating feeling that made it hard to breathe, a mix of pain and injustice: "I really... really hate it when people lie to me..."
Tears still streamed down her face, landing on Zhuang Bieyan's hand. Her heart throbbed with pain.
He reached out to wipe her tears, but accidentally aggravated the injury on his back, letting out a muffled groan and turning pale.
The bandage on her back immediately spread a bright red stain, but he seemed not to feel anything, only wanting to wipe away the tears from the corners of her eyes.
He apologized repeatedly, “Ahe, I didn’t mean to hide it from you. I met her in England. Her family helped me, but we had no connection and weren’t even friends. Our meeting on the show was purely accidental.”
Qu He remained silent.
Qu He looked at his pale face and the cold sweat on his forehead, her tone softened slightly, but it was still sharp, "There's nothing there, why didn't you tell me sooner? Why didn't you dare to tell me?"
"It was my fault, I didn't handle it well. Ah He, I can tell you anything you want to know about my past, but please don't turn your back on me anymore, don't ignore me, don't say... you're leaving, don't go..."
He looked at her, his eyes almost pleading.
Zhuang Bieyan tried to take her hand again, but frowned again because of the pain in his back, and the blood on the bandage seemed to be even darker.
Qu He's gaze fell on the glaring red, and she instinctively wanted to go out and call a doctor, but he grabbed her wrist.
"Loosen your grip first, and I'll call the doctor to re-bandage you."
Zhuang Bieyan stubbornly refused to let go.
"You..." Qu He was both angry and anxious. Looking at his increasingly pale face and the deepening bloodstains, she ultimately couldn't bring herself to be cruel. "Go back to bed first, I'm not leaving!"
Zhuang Bieyan looked at her with a vulnerable expression, clearly not believing her.
Qu He had no choice but to compromise, "Then I'll go with you, okay?"
She had no choice but to let him hold her hand and help him slowly walk back to the bedside, where she pressed the call button.
The doctor came in quickly, changed the bandage and applied medication again, and said in a reproachful tone, "Didn't I just tell you not to do strenuous exercise? It hasn't been that long. Family members should pay more attention."
"Good doctor, we will definitely pay more attention."
Qu He responded, watching the tweezers reopen the skin and apply the medicine. Seeing Zhuang Bieyan's tightly furrowed brows, the pent-up anger in her heart was replaced by heartache.
She was also somewhat annoyed, realizing she shouldn't have argued with him while he was injured.
After the doctor finished treating the patient, he gave a few instructions and left.
The ward fell silent again.
“Ahe…” He leaned against the headboard, reaching out to her, his voice hoarse.
Qu He looked at the hand hanging in mid-air, hesitated for a moment, and finally stepped forward and placed her hand on it.
