Chapter 184 Oh~ Little liar, lying again!
After entering the room, Qu He placed the takeout on the table and poured him a glass of warm water.
The two sat facing each other on the sofa in the living room.
This feels very strange.
They are clearly husband and wife, and they have clearly done the most intimate things, but now they sit together like two strangers, even more awkward than strangers.
However, to him now, they were strangers.
Qu He sized up the man opposite her.
The autumn sunlight streaming through the window fell on his profile, making him look somewhat gloomy and unapproachable.
His gaze was no longer gentle, but distant.
But Qu He knew that this was the real him. The gentle and refined Zhuang Yushu of the past was just an image he presented to the outside world after deliberately suppressing his true nature.
Qu He subconsciously turned the ring, feeling a pang of sadness in her heart.
She was actually resentful.
Especially after reading his letter.
She almost cried while reading it, feeling both angry and heartbroken. She was angry that he hadn't told her sooner, and heartbroken that he had kept it a secret for so many years.
Her resentment wasn't for his so-called "dishonorable" methods, but for why he refused to tell her the truth sooner and chose to hide it from her time and time again.
Even last time, when she had almost made her point clear, he still brushed it off with "thank you".
But now, he's forgotten everything, completely forgotten.
She had nowhere to vent her anger, and her heartache seemed to have nowhere to go either.
Meanwhile, Zhuang Bieyan was also observing the woman in front of him.
She was wearing loungewear, her long hair tied in a small bun at the back of her head, her face bare, and her features delicate and pretty.
But the eyes that were looking at him were filled with such complex emotions that he couldn't understand them.
His gaze shifted downwards, landing on her left hand resting on her knee, where a diamond ring adorned her ring finger.
The style is understated, which is the kind of style he would like.
It was exactly the same as the one he was wearing on his finger.
He recalled waking up that day to find himself surrounded by a room full of unfamiliar people and concerned looks.
After a moment of confusion, he learned from snippets of conversation among those around him and from the little girl who claimed to be his niece that he had lost his memory due to an accident.
Then, the bedroom door was pushed open, and she walked in.
It was strange at that moment. I had no memory of her, but my heart started racing the instant I saw her.
Then, my little niece called out in a clear voice, "Auntie."
It turns out, she was his wife.
This realization gave him a strange sense of peace.
But what followed was even deeper confusion.
Because he didn't see her again for several days after that.
Having been awake for several days, he has roughly pieced together the trajectory of his "past" life.
He is currently the heir to the Zhuang Group, has a wife named Qu He, and is said to love her very much.
He loves her very much?
Zhuang Bieyan tried to search for traces of "loving her" in his blank memory, but found nothing.
Life in the ancestral hall is rigid and serious, teaching responsibility and family honor and disgrace, but not love.
But he couldn't forget the feeling he had when he woke up that day and saw her walk in through the door.
In the past few days, with the help of instinct and those around him, Zhuang Bieyan has quickly adapted to his new life.
But there's always an emptiness in my heart.
He had inquired about Qu He from those around him.
There was only one answer: they had a very good relationship.
This answer made him feel like a jerk.
Although he did not want to lose his memory, forgetting his wife was simply unacceptable.
No wonder she never comes to see him.
So, I got her address from Tan Cong today and came here.
He wanted to know what they were like before, why she wouldn't come to see him, and what she was thinking now.
"I'm sorry," he broke the silence first, "it's about my amnesia."
Qu He shook her head. "There's nothing to apologize for. It wasn't your fault. You were trying to save me back then, so if I had to say anything, I should thank you."
"But I forgot you, and I forgot what happened between us."
"Based on the information I have, we are probably husband and wife. And, according to people around us, we have a very good relationship."
He spoke the last two words slowly, as if he was carefully choosing his words.
"But I'm curious, why hasn't my wife come to see me even once since I woke up?"
He leaned forward slightly, his amber eyes fixed intently on her.
For the first time ever, Qu He could detect a hint of grievance in his words.
As Qu He listened, and then met his amber eyes, she felt a surge of inexplicable anger rising to her head.
What is there for him to feel wronged about?
Isn't she the one who should feel wronged?
She kept so many secrets from him for so long.
He, on the other hand, simply wiped everything clean with one click, forgetting everything completely, and now he's even questioning her about why she didn't go to see him?
She forced a smile and threw back at him the exact words he had used to brush her off: "Mr. Zhuang, I think you've misunderstood. I probably don't qualify as your wife."
She paused deliberately, then slowly added, "At most, I'd say I'm your benefactor. We got married simply because I did you a huge favor."
Zhuang Bieyan did not expect her to say that.
"But everyone says we are very much in love."
"Oh, that? When it comes to acting, you have to make it look convincing, especially in front of outsiders. Mr. Zhuang, isn't this your forte?"
Her words carried a soft barb, pricking his inexplicably agitated emotions again and again.
Zhuang Bieyan did not immediately refute, but simply looked at her quietly for a few seconds.
Then, he stood up and sat down on the sofa next to her.
The distance between the two instantly closed, so close that Qu He could smell the familiar scent of cedar on him.
He turned to face her.
"Qu He," he called her name, "did I cheat on you before I lost my memory?"
How did this person's thought process become so peculiar after losing their memory?
"No."
"So, it was you who cheated on me?"
"Farewell Banquet!"
Qu He was genuinely annoyed now. "Try talking nonsense again!"
Her cheeks puffed up with anger, and her eyes seemed to be burning with flames, yet they were exceptionally vivid.
Before she could react, Zhuang Bieyan suddenly leaned down and felt a warmth on her lips.
Did he kiss her?
Instantly separate.
The kiss came so suddenly that Qu He froze, staring at him in disbelief.
Zhuang Bieyan stepped back, looking at her like this, and raised the corners of his eyes.
He reached out and flicked her forehead lightly, with a mixture of affection and punishment.
“See, you’re lying.” He said in a cheerful tone, with a hint of certainty.
Qu He covered her forehead where she had been flicked, touched it again, feeling both angry and bewildered.
Zhuang Bieyan leaned back leisurely and calmly analyzed the situation.
"Since neither of us has cheated, it means our relationship is still okay."
"And although you denied our relationship, you didn't seem to show any strong resistance or disgust towards the intimate contact just now."
"Based on what I know, I am willing to risk my life, even if it means being seriously injured and unconscious, to jump into the river to save you. This is clearly far beyond the scope of repaying a benefactor."
He leaned forward again, his gaze fixed on her eyes.
"So, Mrs. Zhuang, please tell me, how can a man be willing to give his life for a woman, and how can there be such a thing as mutual physical attraction and intimate understanding...?"
"How can you expect me to believe that our relationship is merely one of gratitude?"
