Chapter 22 Discovering the Pregnancy, Tearing Apart the Lies (Part 1)

Chapter 22 Discovering the Pregnancy, Tearing Apart the Lies (Part 1)

At the police station, what was supposed to be a simple interrogation dragged on until the wee hours of the morning because of Gu Yu's presence.

It was 3 a.m. when Qian Zhaoye finished giving his statement and returned home.

The villa was pitch black. Qian Zhaoye stumbled to the sofa and lay down, habitually calling out, "Qu He, my stomach hurts!"

No one answered.

Qian Zhaoye called out again, "Qu He, the medicine!"

The empty villa was eerily quiet; he could only hear his own voice.

A wave of nausea washed over him, and Qian Zhaoye could only clutch his stomach and stagger to rummage through the medicine box drawer.

Pulling out the drawer, the first thing you see is a sticky note left by Qu He: "The stomach medicine is in the third compartment of the medicine box. Take no more than two tablets each time."

Qian Zhaoye's hand trembled, and the sticky note fell, only to be swept away by the air conditioner's blast of air conditioning.

He missed his target.

Sweat soaked through his shirt, Qian Zhaoye had no choice but to go find the medicine, but could only find a familiar empty medicine bottle.

The night is still, and the stars are twinkling.

Some people have only themselves to blame, while others are being silently protected.

The next day, the morning light pierced through the clouds.

Qian Zhaoye slumped on the sofa and sat on the floor for the entire night.

The cell phone on the ground suddenly rang.

He shuddered and suddenly opened his eyes; the sunlight stung them so badly they hurt.

Qian Zhaoye grabbed his phone and opened WeChat.

The voice message he sent to Qu He last night seemed to have vanished without a trace.

The phone kept ringing, and the name "Qiao Mian" appeared on the screen.

He pursed his chapped lips and answered the call a second before hanging up.

"Qian Zhaoye," Qiao Mian's voice came through the receiver, "I'm pregnant."

......

Qu He was awakened by pain in the morning.

A sharp pain shot through my lower abdomen and gradually spread to my lower back.

A familiar pain.

Qu He curled herself up into a ball and buried her face in the pillow.

here we go again.

Her periods have always been irregular, and she always experiences tearing pain before her period.

Qu He gritted her teeth and rested for a few minutes before finally managing to sit up and check the date on her phone. Sure enough, she had postponed it by eight days.

She sent a message to Si Yue, made an appointment at Beicheng People's Hospital, and drove there after washing up.

The hospital corridor was noisy with people coming and going, and the air smelled of disinfectant.

The doctor who treated Qu He was the same age as her mother.

The consultation lasted only seven or eight minutes, and she was prescribed two or three kinds of conditioning medicine.

"You really need to pay attention to your emotional well-being," the doctor said earnestly, adjusting his glasses. "Get some sleep, avoid cold drinks, and try to stay calmer..."

When she said the eighth "few," Qu He nodded repeatedly and couldn't help but get up and leave.

"Remember to keep this in mind, and you can try traditional Chinese medicine if necessary..." the doctor added.

Qu He can endure the hardships of life, but she cannot endure the bitterness of traditional Chinese medicine.

This is also why she has been seeing Western doctors all these years.

When she arrived at the pharmacy window, she scanned the code to collect her medicine.

"Miss Qu," the pharmacy nurse greeted her.

Qu He was taken aback.

While checking the medication and the name, the pharmacy nurse said, "You've been coming to the hospital to get your medication every few days for the past five years, so all the nurses in our pharmacy know you well."

"Huh?" the nurse asked in confusion, looking up.

"Ms. Qu, the medication you received this time is all for regulating hormones. Is your stomach problem cured?"

Qian Zhaoye has a bad stomach, and Qu Helai personally prepares and picks up his medicine at the hospital.

For five years, rain or shine, she was there without fail. Even the nurses in the hospital pharmacy remembered her name. But what about Qian Zhaoye...?

She recalled the few voice messages sent in the middle of the night on her phone and chuckled faintly.

The pharmacy nurse handed her the medicine, smiling as she said, "The stomach is an organ of emotions. Miss Qu, you've finally seen the light at the end of the tunnel these past few years."

Qu He took the medicine and smiled slightly, "Thank you."

"By the way, you need to go back upstairs and see the doctor again to find out how to take this medicine. The dosage needs to be adjusted according to individual circumstances," the nurse said, pointing to a box of medicine.

Qu He took the box of medicine, glanced at the name on it, and thanked her.

After returning to the outpatient clinic and clarifying the instructions for taking the medicine with the doctor, Qu He put the medicine into her bag and was about to take the elevator when she saw two people walking out of the department across the street.

It's Qiao Mian.

There was also Qian Zhaoye, who had one arm around Qiao Mian's waist and was holding an ultrasound report in the other hand.

When Qiao Mian saw her, the smile on her face hadn't faded yet. A hint of surprise and fear flashed in her eyes, but it was quickly covered up by smugness.

Her lower abdomen was still flat, but her hand was intentionally or unintentionally stroking it, as if she were showing off some trophy.

Qu He felt that her life could only be described as absurd.

The world became blurred at this moment, yet incredibly clear.

The moment Qian Zhaoye saw her, he immediately pulled his hand back from Qiao Mian's waist as if he had been electrocuted, a look of panic flashing across his face.

"Ahe, what are you doing here?"

"I'd like to ask you why you're here?"

“I can explain….”

Qu He stepped back and waved her hand to refuse his advance.

But this time Qian Zhaoye didn't stop. He rushed forward and grabbed her wrist: "Ahe, it was just an accident, believe me! I was drunk... I don't know anything..."

Qu He struggled for a long time but couldn't break free from his grip on her wrist.

Are you drunk?

Just an accident?

She looked at the man she had loved for seven years, her face full of panic, yet she still tried to argue.

It's ridiculous; he's still lying to this day.

How can he keep lowering the bar for human beings?

Is he even human?

Qu He bit her lip until it went numb, her other hand, hanging by her side, gripped her bag tightly.

She took a deep breath and uttered a few words from the bottom of her throat: "Qian Zhaoye, how long are you going to keep lying to me?"

Qu He suddenly grabbed the bag and threw it at his face, causing all the medicine inside to fly to the ground.

The commotion attracted many passersby, and several patients waiting for their appointments peeked out.

Qian Zhaoye's face turned ashen. Feeling embarrassed, he forcefully pulled Qu He's hand and headed for the stairs. "Let's talk somewhere else."

"Let me go! What do you want to do? Your lover and child are outside!" Qu He struggled, but Qian Zhaoye, a man, was much stronger than her and dragged her directly to the stairwell.

The fire doors were slammed shut, blocking out the sunlight.

In the dimly lit stairwell, Qian Zhaoye's face flickered between light and shadow, appearing gloomy and terrifying.
