Chapter 62 Taking him home, as her husband
"What's wrong?" Qu He put down her spoon. "Is there anything else?"
Zhuang Bieyan's Adam's apple bobbed slightly, and he casually looked away, saying, "It's nothing."
"oh."
Qu He responded and continued eating.
Zhuang Bieyan looked at her lowered eyes, and the expectation that had just been ignited in his heart slowly cooled down.
After so many years of navigating the business world, this is the first time in my life that I've been speechless.
That's true. They've just cleared up their misunderstanding, so why would she take the initiative to bring him home to meet her parents?
Zhuang Bieyan gave a self-deprecating smile, picked up his black coffee, and took a sip.
Bland!
The bitterness in my heart had already overshadowed the bitterness of the coffee.
Breakfast was quickly finished, and Qu He cleaned up her dishes. "I'm going back to my room to change my clothes."
"good."
Zhuang Bieyan responded, his gaze following her retreating figure, the light in his eyes gradually dimming.
She didn't mention it.
He lowered his eyes, his fingertips unconsciously stroking the rim of the cup, the disappointment in his heart almost overwhelming him.
As expected... she didn't want to take him back.
He chuckled self-deprecatingly, pondering what excuse he could come up with to naturally go out with her, when he heard her call his name.
"Farewell Banquet for the Zhuang Family".
He looked up abruptly and saw her leaning against the door frame, turning slightly to look at him.
"If you're free today..." she pursed her lips, "could you come home with me? My parents want to see you."
Zhuang Bieyan's breath hitched.
My tense heart suddenly relaxed, and the expectation that had just subsided exploded into fireworks in my heart. An indescribable joy spread from my chest and almost burst out of my throat.
But he remained expressionless, only his fingertips tightened slightly, and his voice was low: "Okay."
Qu He nodded, turned around and went into the room.
The moment the door closed, Zhuang Bieyan slowly exhaled.
Those two simple words seemed to have exhausted all his strength.
He got up to clear the dishes, his steps a little unsteady, until he inadvertently caught a glimpse of his reflection in the glass door of the kitchen.
His steps were slightly stiff; he was even moving his hands and feet in unison.
Zhuang Bieyan: "..."
He stopped and stared at the man in the glass whose lips were unconsciously curving upwards. Finally, he couldn't help but chuckle softly.
What a loser.
But the joy in her heart couldn't be suppressed, and in the end, she let a smile spread across her eyes.
She's taking him home.
Openly and honestly, as a husband.
...
After Qu He changed her clothes and came out, Zhuang Bieyan was already waiting in the living room.
He had already changed out of his loungewear and was now wearing a basic white shirt with a black suit.
Let's go.
Qu He walked towards the door with her bag, and just as she passed by him, her wrist was grabbed.
Zhuang Bieyan stepped aside to block her, and with his other hand, he produced a dark brown velvet box from who-knows-where.
He opened the box, inside lay two plain rings.
The ring has a simple design with only one side and one facet. The two wider sides are set with a few small diamonds, and Qu He recognized it as a Möbius strip at a glance.
Compared to the red tiara ring from last time, this ring was much more understated, but when her eyes fell on it, her heart skipped a beat for no reason.
This just-right level of understated elegance is reassuring.
"What is this?" she asked softly.
Zhuang Bieyan took out the women's ring and handed it to her, saying, "You said the previous ring was too expensive, so this is a newly made one."
His voice was a little hoarse, and the hand holding the ring suddenly trembled slightly, "...Shall I put it on you?"
Qu He nodded.
Zhuang Bieyan stared as the ring slowly slipped onto her ring finger, and that secret thought resurfaced in her mind.
The ring bound him and Qu He together tightly, and the familiar possessiveness in his heart surged more fiercely than ever before.
He knew he might not be her first choice in his heart, but at least at this moment, with this ring on her finger, she was his.
Just thinking about this made him feel incredibly satisfied.
Qu He raised her hand and twirled the ring in the light, suddenly noticing two letters engraved on the inside, with strokes of varying depths.
"These are...H and Y?"
She ran her hand over the engraving, feeling its uneven texture, and a vague guess formed in her mind, "This... you carved it yourself?"
Zhuang Bieyan raised his eyes, his gaze intense.
"When did you carve it?" Qu He pressed.
"In the study."
His answer was concise, but a hint of a smile appeared in his eyes.
Qu He suddenly remembered that the study light had sometimes been on late at night these past few days. She had assumed he was working, but it turned out... he was doing this.
She touched the uneven spot and it suddenly felt burning hot.
"Do you...like it?" Zhuang Bieyan's words carried a hint of barely perceptible expectation.
Qu He gave a soft "hmm".
Zhuang Bieyan picked up the men's ring and handed it to her.
The men's ring is slightly larger than the women's, but otherwise they are the same, with H and Y engraved on the inside as well.
His voice faltered slightly, his gaze reverent. "Now, Mrs. Zhuang... please put it on me as well."
Qu He's heart skipped a beat. She took the ring and looked up at him.
She suddenly felt that this small ceremony was as heavy as a promise.
She took the ring and slowly slipped it onto his ring finger.
At that moment, she suddenly felt a sense of solid grounding, as if their previously unsettling, floating state had finally... landed.
Suddenly, Zhuang Bieyan pulled her into his arms.
He held her tightly, his chin resting on the top of her head, his breathing heavy.
Qu He could feel the rise and fall of his chest, and hear his rapid, powerful heartbeat.
But he did nothing and said nothing.
Zhuang Bieyan held her tightly, his lips moved as if he wanted to say something, but he swallowed it back in the end.
All the words stuck in his throat, he just held her tighter.
It's okay, it's okay even if you still have feelings for him.
At least for now, you are mine.
The future is long, and I will gradually push him out of your heart.
